What's this about porn sites I hear?

I've been hearing around the internet that a new law has been passed here in the U.S. by Congress, effective today (June 23), that pornographic sites must have proof that their models are over 18.

It seems that many sites will just shut themselves down in order to prevent all this work.

Is this true? Because, quite frankely, I'll be pissed if it's true.

I think all it means is they need to add a legal page that says like "All models are over 18". Thats usually what laws like those do. Just another legal section.

So uhh ya...have fun.

It won't help.

I mean, it could say, "All the models here are over 18, [small print] except that one, and that one, and that one, and that one, and that... [/small print]

Its true, they now have to keep records on all their models. This has been true of porn producers for many years, now they are adding web site operators to the list in order to keep up with the new realities of porn.

I am all for making sure the girls or 18+ but since when did a law in the USA mean that all sites in the world have to listen to what the law states in the US? They are not the world law makers so they must mean any porn site hosted in the US.

Good question. Who does this apply to? Sites in America, or sites that Americans see?

the Americans would force the other nations to do what they wanted, or face the prospect of either losing US trade and business, or political relations with America itself; thats the way the Yankees work these days. underhand from my view; real dirty way to play politics...but, its still a good idea for the US to keep tabs on THIER porn sites-since they have the kind of poeple in thier nation that would simply put Children on there; don't deny it, either-the whole world knows exactly what would happen if the US was in charge; every Capital city in the world would be a mirror image of new york, with five year olds for sale on sreet corners; i hate this world.

All porn produced and sold in the USA must keep on file proof that the actors or models are over 18. This has been the law for a long time. Expanding the law to include porn sites is a good idea. It won't dry up the supply of porn, and it may help stop some child pornographers.

Maybe if you were a little more sociable and likeable and nicer you could find a girlfriend :fluffle: and porn would become a thing of the past. Besides, why would you like to be looking at a 12 year old girl; are you a petifile?

Have you ever been to NY? There are no 5 year olds for sale on street corners. Child molestation is taken very seriously in the USA. More so than in most other countries. Long prison terms, vigilante violence, and lifetime tracking through Megan's law registration is the norm.

I guess it's too much trouble to check your facts before you go off on a hatefull rant.

All they need to do is fake a birth certificate or three. I doubt its that hard to do. It looks like our palms can keep their hair after all.

Some people are pedophiles, it's a real and valid disease. But for them, there's always rape ;)

What a piece of useless legislation. This was obviously only passed to make politicians feel better about themselves and gain support from their voting base. The fact is, this isn’t going to be enforced. It is almost impossible. I wish it was, but the internet is simply to big. Think about the fact that there are sites that feature, even brag about, “displaying” noticeably underage “performers”, and the government doesn’t seem able to stop them. I hate fake legislation.

Your sig could easily be refuted by pointing out that the population rasied by 4 billion people as a result of global ..."bettering" (lack of a better word)

In any case, make it more effective by having a death toll for the 21st century. Surely you can find stuff of wikipedia, I'd imagine. It'd be far more effective, I'd imagine.

Or put both 20th and 21st if your into that.

I dont think its meant to be enforced across the board, I think its one of those things they intend to use as a tool to crack down on the really bad sites. If you cant prove that the images on the site fit the definition of child pornography, at least you can prove they failed to keep the appropriate records and you can get the site shut down and the owners arrested that way.
