Besides, I only have to press a button and 20,000 guards fire mercilessly down at you in unison. Besides, it's not like you can get in. Someone has to do their research. :D

as for time, if i get there by two i gotta leave at peak times and it'll cost a bomb (and i'd have to get up early ;)), so i'll probably be there more like between 3 and 4
and its 40 quid for the ticket

If only that was the biggest problem. You see, I'm a temp in an education office, so summer holidays + school-based work = nowt to do. However, I sail competitively on wednesday evenings. I'd have to turn up at 4, stay until about 4:50 then leave to catch the train back to get home in time to get all the way back to just outside bolton, on a reservoir in the middle of nowhere for 6:30 at the latest.

Plus, the office I work in just happens to be managed by my mum, so me going "Uh, I'm off to meet a load of people I know from the internet" will spark a circuit in her brain. This circuit runs as follows: Internet - bad - people (unknown) - bad - my child - mothering sub-routine kicks in (regardless of age) ------- "No, you cannot leave work early to go to Manchester" - circuit breaker acts.

OK, here's what you do. Lie.

Just say [randon name] from [someplace far away] is in Manchester for wednesday early before he/she goes [far away/to somewhere perilous/both] and this is the last time I'll be able to see them.

Then just pretend she knows who they are but has forgotten about them ;)

Also, my parents know (plus a few others). But I suppose leaving work to go to Manchester from Lancashire is a far cry away from taking the 42 into the city centre :)

a short question: what else we gonna do? meet at the pub, stay there? go grab some food? i'm there all evening so i'm up for whatever :)
I was hoping for drinks, relax and chat somewhere without a 110dB bassline, then maybe food...I'm free until midnight, just not too sure when I'm showing up. I'm hoping to make it for 4pm, but could be later. If you're moving on already at 6pm, just text people to update your location.

I don't know what to do, i don't know whether to leave at about 9 and go home which would mean me having to be at blackpool train station at 10:30 and walking through town to get a bus home or if i should stay at a hostel which would mean me having to walk to the hostel at night through Manchester on my own, plus i'd be late for work the next morning

OK, so I can get off work early. I can take the train from Accrington (where I work) to Manchester (I think, still checking that) and be at the temple roughly an hour after I leave. From there, I've got some time to meet and greet the people who are there, have very little to drink (I'll have to drive later) then leave Manchester for Preston at about 4:40/4:50, get to preston about 5:50ish, bus it home, get back, leave almost straight away with all my kit and get to BSC about 6:30. I think. And I may have to leave earlier, allowing for train/bus related fuck-ups.

Bugger.

Any chance of starting it say, midday? :(

I'm sorry to say this, but...

I can't make it. After an attempt on Monday of asking for a day off (A definite 'no' followed by 'and I'll know if you go off "sick" as well) and an attempt tuesday ('I said no yesterday, why should I say yes today?') it's official - I need a week in advance to get a day off. For fucking temporary work.

Not only that, but I had a back-up plan fall through, too. I was supposed to be going out tonight on a heavy drinking session (friend of a friend's return from a holiday - basically an excuse to get lashed), the idea being to get very hungover and catch a day off. The only problem was a pervasive skintness and the 'main man' being food poisoned led to it being called off. Plan B out the window. :(

A message to you all, people - always have plans A to F in stock. Anyway, I imagine you'll all have a great time (even though I'm unable to attend ;) ) and I want loadsa pictures of a very drunk gang of forumites by friday. Don't get too lost on the way there, Tink :)

Oh, and I realise the 2pm meet time was partly down to my poor arrangement skills, so if anyone can get this before too late and inform everyone getting there earlier. Or, alternatively, start drinking earlier and be quite sozzled for the late arrivals :p

Have a super smashing day and all that :fluffle:

Yeah well, you'd damn well better. I want to see some drunken nakedness in the centre of Manchester! OK, so not necessarily 'naked' but, you know...a little craziness wouldn't go amiss.

I'll tell you what - if it goes well, and you feel the need to organise another 'event' in Manchester, organise it at the end of the last uni week before Crimbo. That way, I'll actually be in Manchester, I'll have some money, I won't be working and I certainly won't be sailing (unless we fit the icebreaker to the bow this year ;) ).

And I want video clips. Damn it!
