I just did something overdue. I registered on the organ donor list.

I have given all my organs to donation upon my death.

It's really not much to do, but it makes me feel good :)

Well I signed my organ donour card that I got when I got my license, that says if I ever croak in a car accident or something they can take whatever organs they need.

Yeah it says on my drivers license that I'm a donar, but that's just to 'tell my family of my wishes'. They can override it if they like.

I'm an organ donor myself.

It saves lives people. I suggest that you all should do the same. You will make the people that receive your organs lives better and to keep them with their families longer.

I got a organ donor registration in the mail, i decided to give my lungs and liver (you had options) which is basically just my 1 in 20,000 chance for a final sendoff, considering i smoke 10 packs a week and drink more than Robert Downey Jr.

I was told I couldnt be an organ donar... Kinda sucks really, I don't abuse them to much.

I'm an organ/tissue/body donour. That means that they can use every single part of me if they want to. Students can practise on my body or they can use the sceleton for educational purposes. I don't think I'm going to miss my body after death.

Why? I understand that there could many organs that could not be used but why couldn't they use e.g. your skin or cornea?

I have worn a donorcard since I was 12. After I die, I obviously have no more use for my body. If someone else has, why should I deny him/her that ?

I have a condition that would mean no one without my condition could use them. People with my condition can accept any organs as long as they are the right group. I'm not a medical person but this is what I was told by the doctor.

I don't know about my cornea but my skin would be of no use

To be anal with fucking semantics, I'm NOT an organ doner.... yet. I need those fucking things right now. However it will be open season on 'em when I die.




In the meantime, I repsectfully fucking suggest that there ARE more than a few living brain donors about. Seems a miracle of medical fucking science that some people can keep their hearts beating and yaps mouthing idiocies without a cerebral fucking cortex, but I seem to run into them no matter where the hell I go....

Fortunately it is not so here in Denmark. Here you have the option of letting your next of kin have a say. You also have the option of making your decision final.

I have chosen not to give my next of kin any say in what happens to me after my detah. That's up to me to decide.

Welll... heartbeat = different part of brain than persona and thought :P That is why ms Schiavo for instance still had one.

A better question is,
If you are not an organ donor, why not?
Seriously, in my view religous and medical reasons are the only true reasons for not donating your organs. You don't need them and you can save lives.
Ideally they would work out a way to take blood from the recently dead as well but that would probably be infeasible freak people out too much.
Two systems should be put in place.
a) Your consent to donate is legally binding, no one can stop them if you allow it and are fit to.
b) Instead of opt-in, it's opt-out. So, unless you request not to donate/are not fit to donate, your organs are donated.

Exactly... I used to donate blood, but now I can't. Otherwise I'd still be doing that.

No thas fair enough, they can only use living cells to work on ways of curing it so they won't be much use either. lol ;)

1) Take any and all organs that can be used to save other people/increase their quality of life. Give them to those people.
2) Take any and all parts that can go to research/medical schools. Give them for that.
3) If anything is left, cremate it. I don't care what is done with my ashes.

Anyways, I've seen a liver transplant. It is truly one of the most amazing things we can do in modern medicine. I'm all for having an opt-out system instead of an opt-in system. Unless you have very strong feelings that you don't want to donate, there's no reason that apathy should allow a patient to die.
