Give us few examples. Sometimes the holes are big enough to ruin the whole movie but you were talking about good movies.

Oh, and you should look into the concept of "deus ex machina." It will truly make you realise how awful most Hollywood films really are...

Isn't a good movie with plot holes a contradiction in terms?

well I'd just like to say lets's see you make a movie
I'd love to, just give me a rediculous budget and I'll get to work...

[edit: I'm not saying you need a big budget to make a good movie, just that it's astounding that people spending so much money on a movie still make absolute rubbish...]

How much that would be?

Just curious. I know that the average budget in Finnish films is about 1.5 - 2 million euros. Amenabar had less than 1 million for Tesis.

How does it ruin them? Sometimes it can be a sign of affection for the film, pointing out mistakes, plot holes etc etc.

But plot holes are annoying as are deus ex endings (in general). So maybe
you should tell use what you mean by 'good' movies.

well I'd just like to say lets's see you make a movie

Irrelevent. You'r like one of those Da Vinci morons who cries "Lets see you write a book" when ever the book is shown to be, crap and just about completely factually incorrect.

Authors aren't the only people able to critisise other authors. Directors are the only ones allowed to critisese other directors. Politicians .....

There is a job on big sets, I can't remember the name of the job, but all they do is reset the food on the catering table to make it look full.

Which is to say I don't know, It's just a random thing I pull out in frustration. 1.5-2 million here is considered 'independent.' Even people talking to each other films are starting to cost over 20 million. Those are mainstream films though, easier access to good technology is opening things up a little. Then there is always this scene (http://www.microcinemascene.com/) but I haven't the patience to wade through all of that for the good ones....

PLAN 9 FROM OUTER SPACE:

Commander type dude picks up the phone: "Yes?"

*Then* the phone rings.

I suppose your arguement is why Nick Zed is so successful. Blech. May you have your eyeballs superglued open and be strapped for eternity to an uncomfortable old easy-chair, watching "Liquid Sky" on endless repeat. (well, If you like "so bad its good" thats your idea of heaven, no?)

I think Darkpiranha started this thread after he ran out of crack.

20 million...The biggest budget ever for a Finnish film is (it's not ready yet) 6 million euros. :D No wonder people complain about shitty special effects (and no wonder why Finnish movies are generally small stories of ordinary people)

Student film festivals are brilliant places to see small budget movies.

Id make one it would be a folow on to A Knights Tale.

Basically Ulrich goes on Crusade and his LAdy gets Knicked off with by Bad guy. While he and The Black Prince are in a dungeon after being captured BP dies in Arab lands but tells him of a secret escape as it was his father who had made the castle.

The only way to escape is through the sewers.-Dont ask me why the BP didnt try to escape...-He was too ill i guess.

So he uses his skill of Metallurgy to break his shackles and escape where he gets a horse and steals a boat to Venice

He kills the Dogge-The Dogge is a Bastard!
Becomes king of Venice and gets a Harem forgetting all about his lady bcak home nice..........

Sure there are some kinks but they can be ironed out who will buy?

The problem is a lot of students keep trying to shoot beyond their means. I can't tell you how many 'hardened cops' I've seen played by 19 year olds with plastic guns.

I feel like the guy on the corner sometimes yelling at them-"You don't have the money-just tell a story!!! You can expend that energy to make people talking look good or use it to look like you didn't have enough to do what you where trying!!!!"

Which is part of the problem I have with the scene I linked to in the last post. But Low Budget Horror has become a genre of its own...

Some movies are indeed flawed and it's okay to talk about them AFTER the movie when you for a drink. It is utterly rude to comment on the flaws of the movie DURING the movie. My friend's boyfriend did just that, and pissed my friend off really bad. Lol...

The student films I've seen have been made by students 25 or older...maybe they have already learned a thing or two. The action films made by 19 year old kids are (usually) just jokes. And jokes no one else will get.

I am certainly handicapped by having gone to a place that didn't have a graduate program for film. I'm sure the schools over the hill don't produce as much trash as mine (now I have to hope no fellow alum are here and just saw me cap on their films...I'm sure yours was great....that should cover my bases...)

To quote from a movie (Ghost World) 'this is so bad it's gone past good and back to bad again'. (Not a terribly original sentiment, I'll admit...)

Yes, but especially about how bad the movie is. Goodness, if you don't like the movie, you shouldn't have come at the first place. *rolls eyes*

Why shouldn't we be allowed to criticise another person's work that's been put on display and that we're expected to pay money to view?
Personally, if I pay $10 (more in some places) to go watch a movie, I don't want to see bloody great holes in the plot so big you could sail a boat through it. It annoys the hell out of me and ruins the movie.
onsidering the amount of money spent on a Hollywood movie these days, I expect them to at the very least be able to string a coherent story line together that makes sense and doesn't have hoary great holes in it.
