Yep. Tomorrow is the day I move to DC...well...technically...Alexandria. 6 hours travel time (layovers *argh*) and I'll have a new address.
Kinda weird. A little scary. Still pretty .
That said, I won't be around much today. I have a ton of stuff to do.
Wish me luck! :p

In TX, they won't even let you carry a pocketknife. That hurt more than having to give up my guns. :headbang:

Actually, Alexandria isn't much different from here. Just a little more expensive. But that's completely made up by the fact that wages in DC are (sometimes) four times what they are down here...especially for the work I do.

A "solution" and a problem all wrapped up in one. (http://caselaw.lp.findlaw.com/casecode/uscodes/18/parts/i/chapters/44/sections/section_925.html)
Under Title 18, Section 925 (c), felons may petition the Treasury Department's ATF (The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms) for reinstatement of gun privileges.
In 1992, however, the Second Amendment mood in Congress changed. They passed a rider on ATF's appropriation forbidding the agency from spending any money to process felon applications. In effect, they gutted the Section 925 law. The law still stands, but they are not allowed (because of lack of funding) to follow it.
So, if you feel like becoming a Poster Boy, you could get ahold of one or more RKBA groups there in DC and try to get Congress to change their minds...
Or you can just stick to Black Powder for Home/Hunting and not Carry. :(

I could be wrong, but I'd believe that pre-1900s, blackpowder & shotguns would be fair game, too: none fall under any federal statutes...

No. Not according to the Feds. Check your State laws tho.

They are, as are all replicas (even modernized replicas like the Ruger Old Army) and most modern inlines. Exceptions would be the NEF break-action inlines that take center-fire barrels (the action is considered a "firearm") and conversions like my Mossberg Shotgun muzzleloader barrel.
Basically, if it can be shipped via US post without going through a BATFE Licensee, it's "legal" for a "felon" to possess.
(IMO, the "no felon, no how" law is stupid. It should be no-one convicted of a VIOLENT felony...)

I'll have to check on the Virginia statues to see what's banned and what's not...and federal, too. Thanks for the info, though. :)
I also agree that the law is stupid. The only thing I've been in trouble for is being a drunk with bad judgement. Oh well. It's my fault for fucking up in the first place.
At least it got me to quit drinking. :p

I'm pretty sure the crossbows and bows are allowed here in Virginia, we got a lot of hunters...Plus, this one guy in my neighborhood had a crossbow and he was a convicted felon, of course, he was later arrested for having four car loads of drugs in his home. And by car loads I mean it took the trunks of four cop squad cars to take all the drugs away, which was weed and some other drug...Gotta love Northern VA :D
So I'm out of town right for the summer. Sorry I can't welcome you from there. Anyway, welcome to the wonderful DC-Metro region!

LMAO. Well, drugs aren't something I worry about. I'm so vehemently anti-drug that I get visibly PISSED OFF when people bring them around me. :D
I'll have to check VA laws about felons and knives. In TX, you can't even carry a pocketknife. Not even a freaking Leatherman tool because it has a pocketknife blade in it. :headbang:

They were ready to give me a CC and I'm a Canadian who just visited Reston for a week or so every 2 months. (though dating the daughter of a Senator may have helped, I dunno) I never got the piece, I just started the process. Then my GF and I broke up and I no longer had reason to visit N Va. or DC. Though I did enjoy the place. Except for the occasional shifty eyed paranoid newly arrived local who jumps every time someone shows a gun off. Took me awhile to get used to it (about 48 hours) Cool people, nice scenery. Hope you grow to love the place
