Poor old Saddam

Being tortured by the evil Americans in Iraq. How dare they be so nice to this man. I mean at least they should throw in some puppies or something for him to kill. Anyway joking aside. Do you think Saddam is treated correctly? What do you think of his behavior? Why doesnt he like Froot Loops? What kind of sick person doesnt like Froot Loops?

Why does he put water on his Doritos?

Do the Americans not let him have his false teeth?

The behavior of Saddam shows that regular folk, folks with qwerks like everyone else can be ruthless killers as well. We humans are a pretty piece of work.

I still wanna know what will happen to the guys who smuggled the pictures of him out of the prison. That was a pretty ass-backwards way of doing journalism; break the law by releasing pictures of a 'suspected' war criminal/POW. Not to reveal anything, not to expose a wrong nor confirm a truth, but simply so people can gawk and stare...like some goddam tourist rubbernecking in a prison.

When I was reading his comments about liking Reagan and that Clinton wasn't such a bad guy and the Doritos thing I was shaking my head. Stripped of the trappings of office he becomes some old, graying guy who gives love advice to his guards.
One wonders what Hitler would have behaved like had he been captured and imprisoned (before the Russians fed him into a furnace alive).

a) Frootloops are happy and colourful. Real men don't need colourful things. An olive-green uniform will do, thank you very much!
b) How's he supposed to know all these Western foods. He'll eat them however he likes.
c) Why can't they treat him with dignity? He's not a proven criminal just yet, and he hasn't signed on for Big Brother either. So leave his eating habits out of the news, for crying out loud.

They're very careful with him - they even carry his underwear - how much more care do you want?

Judging from reliable sources, such as Rommel, he was growing increasingly manic near the end of his life. He probably would have yelled and screamed a lot, especially if his guards were non-Aryans.

So leave his eating habits out of the news, for crying out loud.

The American people have a right to know!

Maybe they should treat him with the same dignity he had his victims treated with, the same kid gloves he handled his prisoners with. ;)

Shhh. There are a few on this forum who actually believe deep down in their heart of hearts that Saddam is completely innocent of everything he's ever been accused of.

How could a weak old man who is so charmingly sweet ever do anything bad?

Yes, you're right, guilty until proven innocent. I will try and be more careful in the future. . .aw hell, I say live dangerously! Saddam is guilty as hell of everything said about him including molestation of sheep. (Maybe they didn't say that one but they should have)

Yeah, he's blatantly guilty. Not sure if there are any sheep in Iraq, plenty of camels though :D

Out of interest, what do you reckon the Americans would do if he was found innocent (not that he's likely to be)?

If he were found innocent we wouldn't do a thing. After all that has been said about Iraq becoming independant and so forth the powers that might want to act would be held in check from doing so by the backlash of taking him out.
Now the Israelis on the other hand, or maybe a mob of Iraqis who were allowed to get a bit to close to him...who knows.

I say they can tape him on the toilet if they want. But wait until he is a proven massmurderer/person who dared cross America before you try and turn him into some sort of joke.
As if that is going to silence the conscience that says, somewhere deep inside you, that you are not behaving like civilised human beings anymore.

They should give him some real nachos. Nice, big tortilla chips, a pile of salsa, sour cream, and guacamole. And smother the chips with melted cheese and sprinkle with jalapenos.

Personally? Well now that I know his secrets I suppose I could help organize a huge “Congratulations Saddam” party. There we will serve Doritos, Cheetos and Raisin Bran. We will be sure to provide plenty of moist toulets. This will bring him in for sure. I’ll tell some of my hick friends where he is going to be and skimp a bit on security. When they find his thoroughly beaten corpse in a barn tied to a cow, I’d love to see them try to pin it on me. :D

They don't. What makes you think the press has picked a topic that Americans care about? Do you think Americans really cared about Bosnia because it was in the press and Clinton sent troops there to distract from his troubles with Congress?

I wouldn’t trust any last words reported by the Germans. They also said the general died of a brain aneurysm. Anyway, Rommel was an OK guy. He didn’t take part in the planned assassination of Hitler, because he wanted to see him stand trial. He also ignored Hitler’s more insane orders (such as not to retreat and let his whole army be destroyed).

a few points :)
America is not going to murder Saddam as that would be wrong, Saddam should be convicted of the numerous crimes that he has commited in Iraq against the Iraqi people, and this would carry much more weight socially, diplomatically and internationally if he was sentenced by an investigation and punishment carried out by an Iraqi High Court.

It is good to see that some people posting here recognise the fact that yes, Saddam (along with Stalin, Hitler and Mao) is just a man, has his own habits, strengths and faults. Because the fact is that all humans are capable of mighty and terrible things.

Another point on Hitler - did any of you (especially Americans) see the recent German movie called 'Downfall' that documented the last days of the Third Reich confined within the bunker in Berlin? I did, it was one of the best films I've ever seen, it was powerful and compelling, I reccommend you hire it out or watch it at the pictures if you have any interest in why the second world war happened. Hitler really was completely NUTS towards the end of the war, but was still a man who was ferverently followed by thousands of Germans.

Well sure, he was aware of the plot, but more than likely he wasn’t a part of it. He took Cyanide because he was given the option of either that or being tried for treason. If he had been convicted of treason (he would have he had said many times that Hitler had become insane and the war was sure to end in defeat for Germany) his whole family and the officers in his army could be subject to severe punishment. I would have done the same.

I honestly expected this. I saw him as a guy with some serious quarks and a sense of humor. A guy that could as easily live in the suburbs someplace just as well as a palace. People usually expect guys like this to be monsters, somehow a different kind of person, this simply serves as a reminder that even those guilty of genocide are no more or less human then you or me. Really, how many times, even on this forum, have you heard "If I were in charge, I would kill *insert massive group here because *they *disagree with me.*" I have heard it for Christians, Republicans, Environmentalists, Communists, Hippies, Bikers, Gays, etc, etc, etc... The mentality is there, how many of these people do you honestly think wouldn't follow through if all they had to do was speak a few words to a lackey that would see it through. I usually call them "suburban hitlers."

I've argued with some people on this forum that if another major attack happens on the US, there will be a backlash that will be a Final Solution to the "Islamic problem".

They don't believe me. I can see the average person saying, "yes, it's time we dealt with this once and for all".

The people who lived in Germany in the time leading up to the Holocaust were not insane monsters or depraved sociopaths. They were regular, law-abiding, normal people like you and me.

I can see myself as Heydrich (not a pretty picture, but certainly a logical one) talking about just such a solution.

Leonstein thinks it's horrifying that I can think that way, but I feel that too many of us are in denial. We would all like to think that such horrible things can only be done by monsters - and that most of us aren't monsters.

Think again.

When you read post like that, it makes we worry about humanity. Punishing people after being declared not guilty is just wrong.
