I bring this up because of a line I found in this...

"After he was elected president last year, the 62-year-old Welch began preparing for the baptism initiative with a bus tour of the United States and Canada to show "the convention is concerned about being involved in everybody's life.""

I wonder if there is something like the "Do not call" list for these guys. :D

This just had me laughing.

Don’t worry we don’t do stuff like randomly call houses and go door to door. We mostly volunteer in the community to get people interested in the church.

Good deal, This wasn't ment to offend. I just found humor in the way this part was worded.

Hey, as long as they don't rub it in my face, I don't care. I'd listen, then I'd walk away(most likely, that is). It's when they start hording around me like flies when I get pissed off.

I would like to point out this is the Southern Baptists, not the Baptists. Last i heard, they seceded from the normal baptists because they, the normal baptists, wern't fundamentalist enough

If they could do any of that, they'd make a believer out of me. Or so they'd think, until I was inserted into their trusted inner circle, stole all their wealth, and then I'd disappear.

It's nice to have goals.

Yeah. We felt that the other Baptists were not accurately adhering to biblical doctrine.

Yes.

BUT THEY TRY TO CONVERT LIKE CRAZY!

If only everyone would try to convert people when they wanted to be converted. Instead of marching around, stopping at random houses, and going "JOINZ0RZ GODZ0RZ!!1!!11!11!1one!1!!1111!"

Weeeelllll,

Looks like it's about time to break out the ol' Satan Suit.

In all seriousness, I really, really, really hope they come to me. Because there's nothing I enjoy more than corrupting the innocent. :fluffle: :fluffle: :fluffle:

Someone should really :sniper: me. Before it's too late.

You've gotta see it from their perspective: they think we'll burn in hell eternally if they don't. If we think of the amount of crap they put up with in order to save us from a terrible fate (even if we don't believe in it) then it's nice of 'em, really.

Actually, I was referring to mormons being overzealous in their converting of random people, not their personal character or anything. Sorry if that was confusing.

Don't sweat it, Baptists are dying out from too much politics. The congregations have been incredibly mislead by Politically driven leaders.

The good news, is that most individual churches are still nice people. What the national leaders in Nashville say rarely makes an impact locally, for some.

They can be some very nice people, or some real idiots. Much like the rest of us.

...

A family of happy, pleasant Atheists sits, quietly eating dinner. Under the banter about the day's occurrences, the rumble of footsteps slowly makes itself heard. "Are there any traintracks nearby, darling?" The wife questions her husband.
"No, I don't think so...maybe it's a garbage truck or something." He replies.
"Well that usually comes on Tuesdays, and-" She stops, having picked the word "Jesus" out of the bustle of neighborhood noises. A feeling of cold fear washes down their spine.
"It's...it's the..." The husband stutters, attempting to spit out the words while swallowing his dread.
"Baptists!" She screams in reply. "To the cellar! Get the dog!"

...

Sorry for that, I couldn't get rid of the image this was giving me... :D

But hey, from the point of view of the converters, they're saving people's souls for an eternity of bliss. That's pretty generous, and it's what I'd be doing if I wasn't Atheist.

There are many of us who find the idea of a heaven/hell to be purely fiction.
I for one get tired of those who feel it nessisary to threaten me with the concept of hell to get me to convert to thier religion. Hence, my joke about the "Do not call" list. Or, in this case, a "Do not bother" list.

I remain neutral about it. I've seen ministry work with the pure intent of just helping, and I've seen ministry work with an underlying intent of converting others. For instance, a Bible Church in my town recently set up a skate park in their back that was "neighborhood friendly". However, they wouldn't let anyone in to use it unless they signed a promisary note to attend their youth group at least once a week.

Me? I'd consider myself non-denominational. However, I do attend a "moderate Baptist" church. We have a food outreach program, giving needed groceries to families with little to no income, and no strings attatched. No "Here are your bags, but you need to come to our service Sunday," or "Are you Christian? Yes? Well then here are your groceries!" I like it. No strings attatched. Just the demonstration of Christ's love, and only the spreading of His word should they ask.

Wow 1 million baptisms.

I wonder what they mean by "lifestyle witnessing?"

Does that mean watching porn? ;)

"One resolution that will likely be presented this year urges churches to investigate their local school districts to determine if they promote homosexuality, and remove their children from such schools if they do."

Hmmm schools teach you to be homosexual? Wowwww didn't know that.

Guess I better pull my kid.

And yes, I do my best too. ^^

Sound like what my church does. We understand that the best way to bring people to Jesus is to show them that we are good people. Besides, even if they don’t convert, we are supposed to love and help them anyway.

Just about all different congregations /denominations feels the same way about eachother

I am sure the other congregations say the same thing about yours and have their own just as valid interpretation of an abigous text but neither of you will truly see that it is all just the same thing in different desguises

True that. Not everyone Christ ministered to became a follower (although I'm sure most who experienced his miracles first-hand did </speculation>). Yet he preached and ministered and gave while expecting nothing in return from those who chose not to give back. (Although I do think He had a higher expectation from those who followed him, taking up their crosses and all that).

As the Christmas quote goes "The true gift is giving."
