Unsigned/Unknown Bands
A lot of good music can be found, not among the record company elite, but among the teeming hordes of unsigned, unknown bands. With the all-consuming wave of commercialised, talentless crap, I am sure that I am not the only one hunting down new bands online, but as far as I know this is the first thread dedicated to it. Post any little-known or unsigned bands you've discovered here, and please give a brief rundown of who they are. Criticisms of any band posted here is also welcome. And feel free to plug your own group.
Actually, the previous is probably banned under international treaty. Let us never speak of this sonic assault again. I hadn't listened to it yet, so I didn't know what I was letting you in for. I apologise. Bodies Without Organs, please remove the link to save others.
Wheatus and their album, Suck Fony.;)
Take a guess why they're not popular.

Good to hear :)
Though I listen more to their other album, Hand over your Loved Ones. I just wanted to put that album name in everyone's face.

As thread starter, I feel that I should give the first band. And so I present this British trio. I discovered them when a friend told me that one of his friends was starting a band. While certainly rough around the edges, and probably the middle as well, I feel that they are worth listening to.
Two Foot Fans (http://www.purevolume.com/2footfans)
Dear Ghod, that is so incredibly bad that they remind me of the Shaggs (http://www.shaggs.com/). After the inept intro where it is shown that they can't play guitar or drum I was quite amazed that they could actually speak.

I know a few unsigned bands but unfortunately they're either horrendous or don't bother posting their music on the net. An unrecognized band however is The Crystal Method. I've surprisingly found that almost everyone knows one or more of their songs, but very few know the band itself. Who here does?

Not sure if these guys are signed or not, but probably not as they formed this year, and only have 6 songs. They are called Fight Fire With Water, and, despite what you may be thinking, they aren't emo. And they have a website, with mp3s on it. It's this: www.fightfirewithwater.co.uk
Now, a few bands I love who don't get the recognition they deserve:
Nirvana, The Beatles, Oasis, Coldplay, U2.
Yes, I am taking the piss...thought I'd just put in some of the most overrated bands of all time instead.
Now, seriously, here's some good little-known bands:
Duke Spirit (website (www.dukespirit.com)), 65daysofstatic - have a look for yousendit links on the message board for music (website (www.65daysofstatic.com)), and the Marseille Figs - if you like ukeleles and accordions in your music, this is most certainly for you (website (www.marseillefigs.org)). They have a free cd available on there. It's damn good. They also have numerous mp3s and videos...one which apparently shows 2 women kissing in a swimming pool...

Didn't they win 'Demo of the Week' on Planet Sound (channel 4 teletext in the UK) at some point?

the song there isnt their best, but its not bad
the lead singer has already released an album with Simon Neil of Biffy Clyro under alter egos
And oh, turns out they are signed, I had assumed they put their EPs out themselves. Still a good band though

I like unusual things, so ll mention two unusual acts. Both of them are in the death metal genre.
The first is Spider the Tylercore from New York. This is a death metal band with a lead singer who is 5 years old. Need more be said? Check out his single "Skeleton Freakout": http://www.purevolume.com/spiderthetylercore
The second act I want to mention is called Pink Flowers and Purple Butterflies. These guys are a little more serious (just a little). They have been playing the central florida death/black metal scene for a few months and are beginning to be noticed, mostly due to the unusual nature of their lyrics. While playing shows with bands that feature song titles too grotesquely violent and sexual to post here, Pink Flowers and Purple Butterflies will play a song just as hardcore and powerful as the other bands except with titles like "Frolicking in flowers", "Playing with puppies", and "Respect your mom and dad". You can listen to two of their songs here: http://www.purevolume.com/pinkflowerspurplebutterflies
Husker Du. They were on an independent label for most of their lifetime, and then they switched to Warner in their final two years.
They've always been underground and relatively unknown. They're also very good. Their music has stood the test of time thus far, and will continue to do so.
Katscan
Katscan are great. I partied with Maxi D-Fect when he was in Sneaky Bat Machine.
I'll have to plug Goteki (http://www.goteki.com/). They rock

They are fantastic...maybe it's just because of the people I know, and the music they listen to that I don't consider them particularly underrated. Candy Apple Grey is one of the best albums I own. And they paved the way for grunge...ok, maybe that's not such a great thing.
