I don't think I'd really like to meet any 'regular' NSers. I don't like being teased, physically injured, or laughed at. Which is what happens to me all the time anyway. I don't need some random people from 3,000 miles away doing the same thing to me as everyone else I know does.

Although I wouldn't mind meeting some of the mods. Melkor Unchained, for example, so we can have a meaningful political discussion without any name-calling; along with a few other players who debate well (such as Alien Born and Jocabia). And Sirocco, according to the player profiles thread, likes playing the piano and composing music; so do I. We might get along well.

Absolutely right. I am pretty much "anti-gun", as the simplified version of strict gun control is labelled in these everything-is-black-and-white-only days, but do enjoy going to a shooting range once in a while and do have a decent working knowledge about guns.

Actually, the real reason I'd hesitate to answer this question is the thought that no matter how I try to include *everyone* I'd like to meet, I'm likely to forget one or two people who would then get offended and it all just becomes one ugly mess.

Anyone who has political thought, whether its what I agree with or not, at least they care (good for you).

I just think it would be neat to get a whole bunch of us together at pub...we'd take it over with political debate, and my head would be reeling by the end of the night with information instead of alcohol:). I'd even want to meet the people I violently disagree with. The fact that you all seem to have strong political viewpoints, and actually like discussing them makes you interesting. Too many people in RL give you a blank look when you bring up any sort of political topic, or automatically agree with you (out of ignorance). It's way more satisfying to sway someone who has actually thought out their position...and have them do the same to you.

I've only done it once, and I have 2 more lessons lined up, and then an indoor shooting range every Tuesday. I might be able to join the sportsmans club here because someone just died. (They only allow so many members.)

I have to go to Milwaukee in order to go to a place that will let me try out guns before buying. (Some of you saw my shooting thread. And thank you again to all who gave me excellent advice and threads.)

I suppose that I should make at least one serious comment here, and say that I would actually have a hard time finding anyone within NS that I would not like to meet. There are of course people whose political and social views seem somewhat obscure to me... but then, wouldn't it be just as interesting to meet them and see what makes them 'tick'?

I've met a lot of really bright and interesting people in my tenure here, far too many to mention - and given the fact that so many of these people have put up with me, I can find no reason to want other than to meet them all.

Seriously though, I was here for about a year before I even figured out when certain people will be on. Some people here lead pretty regular lives, I can tell you that much.

I still think of all of NS as one big conversation, a giant cocktail party where you just drift from one heated conversation to another, pausing briefly to pat someone on the back or listen to our resident Jesters make fools of us all, streaking through threads and dissembling our naiton names.

I must admit there would be few people on this board I wouldn't like to bump into in some coffeeshop or bar somewhere, and chat for a few hours.

And probably a few libertarian posters to make it more balanced and have more interesting arguements.

And Sirocco, according to the player profiles thread, likes playing the piano and composing music; so do I. We might get along well.

The idea has merit!

Either in 2004 or 2003, I believe a number of players who attended the San Diego Comicon (sp?) arranged a meeting.

My suggestion is to have a NationStates gathering hook up with some other larger event, but have it start the day before with a dinner at a large pizza place (so everybody can sit in a back room) or perhaps hunt about for a place that won't mind 30+ people in a group.

Bootstrapping on a comic convention seems to make sense, as Jennifer Government and on-line games fit well with comics. :)

Run a series of polls to see where players live in real life.

I'd suggest that multiple locations be set up. London sounds like a good first shot. I'd suggest something on the US East Coast (New York, Baltimore, DC, Phily, Boston). Los Angeles or Seattle are always good for the US West Coast. Chicago or Dallas for the rest of the US (I think there are a ton of Texans involved in the game -- though I'm not one).

The Dutch have always had a huge presence, so Amsterdam or Den Hagg are both fairly good choices for the Netherlands.

What would be cool is if somebody is serious, that they bring a copy of the book and ask each "Nation" to sign the book as the head of state ... anywhere in the novel. Then if the US West Coast did this first, we could mail the book to somebody elsewhere in the world. In the end, the book could be presented to Max.

In any event, I'd suggest thinking about smaller regional gatherings first. If perhaps one of the feeder forums wanted to keep track of these, it could grow into something.

If you're going to have a setup for people in Texas, Corpus Christi would be the best place. Dallas sucks (so, so bland), and Houston is dirty. San Antonio and Austin are nice, though.
