World Cup 2006: your prognostics?

Having looked at the standings so far, I've worked out which are the 32 teams that - at present! - are most likely to qualify for the final stages of the football World Cup next year.

I then randomly sorted them into eight groups. So what you see below is one possible combination for what we might be seeing in 2006 (except that Brazil would normally be in group A, having won the last Cup, but never mind...).

If this were to be the layout, what would your progonostics be? What would happen? Which teams would move on to the next stage?

Group A
Czech Republic
Paraguay
Korea (Republic)
Ireland

Group B

Do you mean Brazil vs. Germany? Are you crazy? I don't want us to lose against these football freaks. Make it Brazil vs. USA for a laugh. Hmph! :p

I'd support the Mexicans purely from the memory of Marco Branca's glory day (that's right, just one day).

Czech/Netherlands vs Brazil

I like Kelarlly's, but I'm not willing to discount the Netherlands....or Greece, or Portugal. Greece's keeper is something, and Christiana Renaldo (sp both?) is an incredible striker, if the others would help him out! Seemed in Euro 2005 that what killed them was when Renaldo would break down the side and cross it and noone would be near the goal.

Damn you Urst Meier

Allow me to laugh mockingly - BUAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

England will beat Portugal when monkeys fly out of my ass!

And by the way, you were robbed how? You gotta be joking me! If anything, it was extremely unfair that that game went into overtime after that brilliant goal by Rui Costa. Damn you Lampard and your lucky strikes (no pun intended).

But then again, it WAS kinda of fun watching Ricardo (our keeper, in case you've forgotten) take off his gloves, save the penalty and then score the winning strike afterwards.

It was almost as rewarding as when we went from 2 goals down to win the game in the Euro 2000 3-2, fueled by that splendorous goal by Figo.

I could go on and on about how we are superior to the England squad, but that is kinda redundant. I'm confident that Portugal will go far in the next World Cup, and I think the main obstacle to our much awaited (and deserved) glory, is Brazil's (so unbelievably good that it's almost unfair) offensive line.

Short summary:There was absolutely no help from the referee, England sucks, Portugal rules - go Cristiano Ronaldo!!!!

Let it be said, let it be done.

Yeah, sorry, I had to make a few estimates... If Australia beat the Solomons (which they should), then, as things stand, they'll be up against Colombia to qualify. To draw up that list of 32, I considered Colombia would win.

Well, here are my prognostics:

Group A
Czech Republic
Korea (Republic)

Group B
England
Portugal

Group C
Ghana
USA

Group D
Argentina
Spain

Group E
Turkey
Ukraine

Group F
Netherlands
Sweden

Group G
Brazil
Germany

Group H
Italy
Mexico

I've worked it through to the final stages, and I see Brazil defeating the Netherlands in the match for the third place, and Argentina snatching a surprise victory against the Czechs in the final.

Despite what people say, I reckon Australia played very well in the Confed Cup so far.
They deserve to be there, and if there is any justice in this world, they'll beat Colombia.

Mexico is looking really promising right now too. They beat Brazil, and that's always a bit of an achievement.
