The PS3 Launch = Halo 3 Launch
For those of you who are gamers.
The Xbox360 brass has announced that they plan to release Halo 3 on the same day that the Playstation 3 will be released. It is obvious what the higher-ups are thinking. They want to split the sales for the PS3 by releasing a big name game at the exact same time.
Do the gamers here think that'll work?
I think it'll have very little effect. First of all, in my experience, no matter how good a game is, I don't think the majority of gamers would choose a game over a new console. More importantly, the last generation of consoles it seems has created a very clear fan base. people who plan to buy a PS3 I think will not be deviated.
It will have an effect, but it wont be the drastic change Gates hopes for. On opening day you can ask someone "PS3 or Halo?" and they'd tell you. and instead of expecting everone to be going to a store to get one item, people might be getting both.

What you are saying sounds pretty sound to me.
This isn't new.
But I think that now Gates is just evilly sick.

What do you think?
I think it might sway casual gamers...but they probably wouldn't be the ones standing in line for hours on launch day.

I've known that ever since the release of Windows ME.

Casual gamers will be all over the PS3 'grffix innit'. Xbox360 is aiming for them but on't make it because Sony have the best machine. Unless they can repeat the trick Sony pulled on Sega with the Playstation by dropping the price ut of the blue just before launch.
What do I care, I play Nintendo Oh, yeah, Nintendo might just collapse this time around...

It really all comes down to the initial games.
The graphics cards on both machines have been produced by ATI, so I belive we can expect similar outputs from both machines.
And I don't think Nintendo will collapse this time around.

I hope they don't collapse. Hel if they do it right they can actually crack the kiddie market and grab some of the vet market back. Also they are shooting for girl gamers s we'll see how it goes. I am worried though that my 3 dvd case console will be the last Nintendo make.

I don't think PS3 has a thing to worry about. And why? Because I read the reactions given by the PS3 people when Halo 3 release date was announced...they didn't so much as blink. They know the PS3 is, hands down, the best next generation system coming out. They know they're going to own Xbox in sales. They know they've got a superior product, and they know that one game isn't going to change much of anything.
I'm mostly just bummed about what I'm hearing from the Nintendo people. They seem to be dropping the ball lately, and that makes me sad...I enjoy the 'Cube, and I've been playing Nintendo games since I was a wee thing, so I don't want to see them left in the dust. I hope they pick up the pace and keep in the competition.

PS3 probably won't be the best. OK it is the most powerful but no-one's gong to use that power. No-one.
Xbox 360 may have it better in that regard because it's easier to push. It's still not going to be fully exploited unless this 'generation' lasts a decade..
Nintendo are making theirs easy to code for so I expect a lot of good graphics and some very surprised PS3 fans. Particularly in vierw of Resi4. 'cube is the least powerful by far but the PS2 version has worse graphics. That's a fundamental bit of design philosophy at work.
