Los Angeles vs New York

If you were forced to move to one of them, which would it be? I'd rather go to Los Angeles personally. Apart from the music of Los Angeles being better (West Coast rap particularly wipes the floor with East Coast) it is also more unabashedly American and in that sense is far more true to itself. At times you get the sense New York wants to be a part of Europe.

Part of Europe? Hardly. New Yorkers are a definition by themselves.

I would pick New York if it could be Manhatten. Broadway, the fact just about everything can be delivered to your doorstep, the Museums, the Yankees ;).....

LA all the way! Seriously brah, they got everything. When I lived there for 2 years, we had skating (by which I mean on the skateboard, recently found some who thought I meant ice skating....) surfing, hot babes everywhere, awesome weather, sweet beaches, and all my favorite rock bands put more concerts up in California than any other state, so that's a plus side also, screw the rap aspect...Then, LA has better people than NYC. The New Yorkers were more stuck up and full of themselves when I went to NYC...

Tough. I hate SoCal (so much so, despite my degree I'm avoiding moving there as much as I can) and LA makes me angry just being there.

BUT-I am in no hurry to be a Californian in New York. I just don't want to put up with it. Or the weather. I suspect I would be angry there to. I guess I'd have to say LA-I honestly think that NY has more to offer, but LA is connect to Route 66 and HWY 1, enjoyable little escape routes that I could hit when it all got to much for me.

New England I understand has some great roads, but the ones in California are drivable 365.

Except when it takes you 2 hours to make it into LA from the burbs.

Choosing between these two is painful in the extreme. I have been to LA many a time and hate its Osaka like endless sprawl. New York represents all that is evil with big cities ( ;) ). I would have to go with LA just because I could get out of it easily and get back into the desert or Sierra Nevada Mtns.
But honestly, I would hang myself before I chose either.

Those aren't the great roads, though. But yeah, the traffic sucks ass. But it does in NY too. At least in LA I could use a motorcycle most of the year and lessen it up some.

Some.

Los Angeles. Two Sex Pistols live there (Steve in Hollywood, and John in Long Beach), and they've also got Indie 101.3 FM!

Oh, and the music scene is great.

Neither. I don't mind visiting either of them, but you can't force me to live in those liberal strongholds.

All the best cities are "liberal strongholds". Your loss, eh?

The Metropolitan Museum of Art
The American Museum of Natural History
...and the attached Rose Center for Earth and Space
...(formerly the Hayden Planetarium)
The Japan Society
The Rubin Museum of Art (a museum of Himilayan art; not related to Greg Rubin)

...and those are just the ones I've personally been to, so far. :)

I choose Los Angeles.

Bernard Parks is gone, so the police are less likely to get away with beating you up for looking at them funny.

"Angeleno" and "Angelena" sound better than "New Yorker."

No snow.

If it's too liberal for you, go to Orange County. If it's too conservative for you, got to Santa Monica.

Still no snow.

People will hate you for no good reason and there's nothing they can do about it. Northern Californians will hate you for being in Southern California. East coast sports fans will hate you for making their teams play so late. If you don't live in the San Fernando Valley, the people who do will hate you for voting against the secession. If you go to UCLA or U$C, people at the other school will hate you. Red staters will hate you for being in a blue state. And there's nothing they can do about it! Ha ha ha ha ha haaa!

You will be able to safely go water skiing and snow skiing on the same day

I'd rather be in Southern California than anywhere else, but as the actual cities themselves go I prefer New York.

Yes. Yes we will. <grumblesnarlsnideremarkgrumbleinferenceaboutwateranothersnideremarkgrumble>
But at least you're Californians.

I haven't been to NY, but having spent a week in LA I can wholeheartedly say that if I never went back there, it would still be too soon.

yeah...all you warm climate people need to NEVER EVER drive up here in winter. Seriously. If I see one more idiot from the south spin out because they don't know not to break in the middle of a turn on ice, I'm gonna be forced to pull over and laugh at them. And maybe urinate on their car.

Roads up here are great to drive...if you know how to.

Oh, and beware the Massholes.

LA is like Jersey. The only reason to live there is if you want to cut down on the time to Australia.

If you have to live in a metroplex, New York is the only one.

There's plenty of reasons to live in LA, but they're mainly stuff like 'outdoor activities' like skating, surfing, partying, hot babes (can be an indoor activity also :D) then there is always just hanging out at the movies...The only problem I had with LA was that one part of the city was pretty much entirely illegal Mexicans, seriously, the only word in English they knew was 'Immigration'.

Fuck em both, I'll stick with chicago. Closer to Moab, which means great mountain biking, and then you get Canada nearby for any serious backpacking/camping trips. Devil's lake for some fun mountain climbing as well. You also get O'Hare, which means relatively quick access to everywhere else in the world.

If I had to choose I would pick NY. But I still wouldn't support the Yankees.
