At the moment I have quite a lot of time and try get some muscles.
But I never know on which part of the body to focus:
So what is more sexy?:

1) muscular arms
2) well trained legs
3) a six-pack
4) other

I'm not very picky when it comes to guys...as long as they are in good shape that is :D however...I'd have to go with the six-pack.

I personally can settle on just a flat stomach rather than rigid six pack, as long as it's not fattish, y'know? I much prefer muscular arms....and shoulders and back....mmmmmm

Umm, I'm not a girl but I think having good shoulders, chest and arms are probably the best things to aim for. Abs would be next. Then a bit of work on the legs so you don't look all out of proportion.

My logic behind this is that unless you're planning to wander around shirtless all the time, your abs are going to be hidden behind some cotton. So whose going to know whether you're got great abs or not?
But a good pair of shoulders and arms will still be visible and noticeable.
Bench (or push-ups) will help build up your chest, shoulders and tris. So add in some arm-curls and sit-ups and you're done!
Just my two cents worth.

Well, I'm not a girl, but I am gay. I don't like muscles, and I don't like fat. So, as long as you're not fat, you're sexy.

The amount of effort that is require to actually get a six-pack is unbelievable, and if you're doing any of this to impress girls, you're doing it for the wrong reasons.

I don't care much about the physical at first. I like a great personality. Then if something clicks physically (like eyes, mouth, arms, hair, hands) I'm there.
...
But if you must concentrate on something, I'd say upper body and arms. i like to be held in a nice, strong embrace.

Good luck!

the guy i'm crazy about is not like the super-toned guy you describe

he is in good shape, but he's not bulgy or super muscular. and i like that.

he is himself, and that is exactly who i go crazy over. not because he has anything else - simply because he is him.

if you just want to look sexy for girls and get them in your bed, i guess you can do whatever you want. and to feel sexy is a really nice thing, but just don't use it for the wrong reasons.

but i mean, if you wanna have fun, i'd be a hypocrite if i didn't let you... heheheh.

drift taken. okay. oh and i think toned backs are really nice. especially the lower back. that is all.

Sorry to butt in again, but I think what this poster is asking from you girls is not what makes you want to go out with a guy, but what's the first thing you notice about a guy when you say see him across the street for the first time.
That's why I've suggested shoulders and arms. Cause a good pair of should/arms are noticeable immediately. It's putting across the idea that here's a guy that cares about his appearance imo.
And speaking as a guy if you can a positive reaction before you even attempt to make conversation, you're over the first big hurdle. just another 1000 or so to go :)

Of course, then you need to be interesting and funny to keep that interest up and go anywhere with it.

Sideburns and intellect are hot. I have a friend who started a workout routine some time ago, and now his arms look like raw chicken drumsticks (skin-on). I personally think you ought to loose the focus on a single body part for starters, and just try to get really fit and healthy first (lots of fruit and veg, and plenty of exercise). Then get some feedback on what your assets are, so you know what to not worry about.

The only six-pack I'm interested in is a six-pack of beer.

you need to work your whole body evenly. great abs with flabby arms and legs would look freakish

that said.... great shoulders catch my attention every time.

that 6-pack abs thing is just a way to sell gym memberships. good pecs with a flat stomach is all you need to look great. good arm work, take up running for good legs. there you are, the perfect man!

What would be the right reasons then?

I'm gonna say other... cuz none of those appeal to me. Toned arms are nice, but "muscular" is kinda icky. Similar idea with the abs, no keg bellies but a six-pack is just creepy. And I don't pay attention to legs. So uh, yeah. I'm not much for big muscles or really low body fat... just toned and proportional will do.

For your health, for your own personal well-being. Doing it to impress people is going to hurt you. If you're in it to impress people, you'll likely bite off more than you can chew, so to speak, and attempt to lift more than you're capable of in an effort to impress people at the gym. And you'll just hurt yourself. If you're doing it for your own health, then you're more likely to progress at your own speed, since there's no motivation to go faster to show off.

Actually, I'm going to add to my comment. While my physical type is skinny and I really don't like the idea of big muscles... ANY body type can be maximized in attractiveness by good POSTURE. Stand up straight and put your shoulders back in a straight line. This is true for girls too, but I can tell you if I'm looking randomly around in a light crowd, even before I notice a nice skinny waist I'll probably first notice the guy with his shoulders back and smiling.

Then I'd go unnoticed, because I rarely smile :p.

*I do have excellent posture, though.

Barely. If you want an easy chest exercise, do sit-ups.

Ok - I thought sit-ups did the abdomen though? Or do they do both? Is there a best way to do them?

Bah, I got the terms mixed up. Yes, sit-ups work the abdomen.

If you do power push-ups, your chest will get a decent workout. You have to spread your arms out at about a 45 degree angle, and do them as fast as possible. It starts to burn, which means it's really working.

Oh, they work... And they burn. Another really good workout is one for the legs... Power squat thrusts.

They're like regular squats, but you jump when you spring up from the ground. When you hit the ground, you squat quickly, and spring jump again. Repeat the process in a fluid motion. It's painful, but it really adds muscle mass to your legs. I can't think of a better leg exercise.

See, I don't care really.

Though if you would like to get all those muscle groups worked on, divide them into two groups and work one set one day and the other set the next day and alternate. It will allow your muscles time to recover in between and thus build better and properly plus you can get it all done.

I have a feeling that you're under 18. In that case, avoid weight-lifting. Concentrate on cardio-vascular excercise, which entails running, cycling and rowing.
