Calling Fraps Users

I have upgraded to Build 2.6.0, and am finally getting around to getting to grips with it. My previous experiences with this program have been somewhat disappointing.

I am planning to record at 20 fps (roughly the typical frame rate), half-size with the screen resolution set at 1280x960 (so video clips will be at 640x480).

I want to be able to cut and paste the clips, overlay with mp3 format music, compress and save as wmv, avi or mpeg, basically so it can be played in WinAmp. I have tried Windows Movie Maker and Virtual Dub, but the results end up being more grainy than a home-made pr0n flick. Can anyone suggest a simple and reliable program to use?
