I quite enjoy being neutral in those and questioning both of them just to confuse the hell out of everyone as to who's side I'm on :D . Its also funny when people say "Why are you Defending Bush YOUR LEFT WING" Ha

Like theres a left in America

I am. There's not actually that much in it anyway - there never is, when mainstream political parties are concerned. A country isn't made up of extreme viewpoints - most people are generally the same (otherwise we'd see a lot more secessions), meaning that any major political party has to be fairly close to its opponents.

I don't want to offend anyone. I just find it really irritating the way each side takes up really extreme positions and then completely refuses to listen to the other

Im sick of lots of threads, mostly the ones where one group shouts about its own superiority to another group, wherup both groups procede to make themselves look like idiots when they get into a shouting match.

I got sick of of it long back when I started (over a year ago). I always wished that a more accurate (that is, less manichaen view) view would develope amoung some American posters (not all ;)), this Liberal-Conservative bs really gets on my tits now :(

Luckily I got over myself and respectfully refrained from from replying to such posters :)

They're bread and butter of this site. No need to go and read 'em though. (if you want sirloin, go for the religion threads, allegedly even more dim than the dem vs. rep ones)

Yes, I am sick of people actually who actually believe that choosing from two groups of oppressive rulers every four years is actually democratic.

American politics is...blah. Throwing around the term "liberal" and "conservative" as if America actually has a left wing and that the two choices are the only possible ones. I don't even use the word liberal anymore, seeing as it's become something totally different then what it originally meant (classic liberal). Conversations between libertarians and socialists are the best and most informative, anyway.

There's always a sort of inbreeding of the news about American politics. A candidate will use some fallacious emotional pandering and the pundit will chime in with "Ooh, he's really going to get the attention of the middle class with that one". Why not just let the middle class respond instead of telling them to respond, huh? Why not actually point out the fallacy of the arguement?

"Uh oh, candidate number two appears to be sweating...that's going to give off the appearance of nervousness" Well that kinda stands for itself, doesn't it, asshole? Why not actually draw the attention to what the bastard is saying instead of contributing to a farce of a public relations campaign, you poor imitation of a newscaster?

It's American politics - just be glad that we aren't beating each other with canes on the floors of the Capitol. If we could stop flaming each other and making personal remarks in a situation which is clearly political, then I might not mind all so much... but, again, it's America. Apparently, to Americans, opinion is all that matters.

It isn't just you... I'm growing bored with all political and religeous arguements FOR NOW. I think it would be great if everyone chose a day not to speak about either in General or anywhere else. Just ONE day!

Let's talk about ANYTHING ELSE! Just for one day. Today I've been too tired to even look at those threads, but that's all I see...

Just ONE day! :)

In the US, there are two political parties: the rightists and the far rightists.

I spose I'm probly not too welcome here, but I'll try to offer an opinion from a far left American (In Europe does that mean a moderate? :P).

The far left in America is not represented by either major party, and so we are left (no pun intended) with no choice to choose the lesser of two evils, since there is no chance of a far left victory in America. We can only hope to push the Democrats and the moderate "left" to the left and gain a larger say. Until then, all we can do is vote democrat to prevent America slipping even farther to the right. Currently, a far leftist in America is treated as though they were a child and told they will "grow out of it" which is hardly a healthy mindset for them.

From Letila's perspective, the socialist Republican and the socialist Democrat parties may indeed seem 'right.' But, that doesn't make it so. Nor does the fact that people from those parties like to call themselves "conservative" and "liberal" (respectively) change the other fact that they're still just socialists, with only minor variations from the usual theme of big, intervening government.

I reckon they should stick to an issue rather than this whole left vs right thing.
Make a thread about abortion, or about social security. Much more to the point, and less chance for a personal attack on someone.

And they should take care not to make it too US-specific, cuz quite frankly I couldn't give a shit about what America does inside its' own borders.

I hear ya. I just want to tell folks it's not fucking "Crossfire." I'm always accused of being a right-winger (as if it's a crime) when I'm one of the most liberal people you'll meet in my neck of the woods. As if that says much.

I am sick of threads copmlaining about everything in general. For Example:

The Terry Shiavo Autopsy Thread, She's all the way dead now, just leave her alone.

Every political thread ever, Although some of Skapdroe's were funny.

Threads about sexual preference.

To sum up, in my eyes, most of this forum is a giant floating pile of excrement.

Sqourn, you missed the "Israel is t3h 3vi1" threads out.
Israel debates, what a joke. Me against Greenmanbry, with occasional help coming in from special guest stars for the debate, Corneliu, Steph until she left us, maybe even Tactial Grace sometimes. Other than them and a few others, its mostly a bunch of n00bs posting "ISRAEL IS EVIL!!!!!11111+shift!!!:sniper::sniper::mp5:".
Seriously, if you have no clue about the topic, don't try and debate it. There's a reason I stay out of abortion, religion, and American politics threads. If you don't know about Israel, don't debate about it. Shocking logic isn't it?

Thats what I mean

I'm not saying that people shouldn't discuss politics, just that it would be great if a few people could do it a bit more ****ing intelligently, ie stop trading insults and just listen to each other a bit (ditto the religion threads)

For the record I'm (broadly) on the leftwing end of the spectrum

Sure you're represented in America. Actually better than any other group, the only thing is that your representation disguises its identity. Just look up the Congressional Progressive Caucus. It's hosted by Bernie Sanders who runs as an independent but is outspokenly a socialist. There are marxists such as Nancy Pelosi, Barb Lee, and many others. Actually 54 of them last time I checked. Up until the news broke a year or two ago the site was hosted by the Democratic Socialist Party, but of course once that happenend they hid a bit better, but they are still there. Oh yeah, they took the fist and rose symbol down and hid it inside the site, but they still share it too.

It's hard for me to understand the con vs. lib threads. Mostly because not all conservatives agree on all things, and not all liberals agree on all things.

I think that most of those threads are troll fests designed on the mistaken premise that all people on each side think alike.
