C'mon, classic topic.
X-Wing wins, tho I'm not that big a Star Wars fan.....

Not if it's a TIE defender, X-1, or shielded interceptor, in my opinion. Plus, TIEs are cheap, and you can produce a few dozen for the same cost as a couple X-wings. If they had only computer navigation, they would be inexaustible.

The B-Wing pwns all...just for being so damned goofy looking. :D

X-Wings totally beat TIE fighters anyday. The X-Wings are just cooler looking, harder to hit, used by the Rebellion (which is way cooler than the Empire), more manuverable and just all around better.

Actually, TIE's are faster *and* more maneuverable than X-Wings. X-Wings have much more firepower, shields, a stronger body, and hyperdrive. They also have better targeting systems, and a more advanced HUD. X-Wings are also much more stable (they don't jerk around as much with little movement of the controls).

HOWEVER --- With no power given to the shields, X-Wings are indeed faster than TIE Fighters (though not quite as fast as TIE Interceptors).

My vote goes for the X-Wing.

Come on, the Myrth-wing is obviously superior. Or is it the Myrth Fighter? Can we start renaming Star Wars ships with mod names now?

The Melkor Avenger would be my ride of choice.

That's Darth Vader's prototype TIE Advanced.

The production model (god, this sounds so geeky) looks a lot like Vader's, but the solar panels have cutaways to increase visibility. It's also smaller.

It looks similar to the TIE Interceptor, though it's more squared.

A-Wings are the best fighters in Star Wars. In my humble opinion.

Y-Wings are very good assault fighters. Granted, they're not as good as B-Wings, but remember they're much older than even the X-Wings.

Y-Wings have very strong shields and sturdy, durable hulls. They also have heavy firepower, and are even more stable than X-Wings. They aren't as maneuverable or as fast, but then, they're meant for attack runs.

This inspires me. It inspires me because my first response was 'There is no love for the bombers'...but then I though, "Well, what about Memphis Belle?" There is love for the bomber, the bomber drama, that last dogged mission story.

Which makes me want to see a "last mission" bomber drama set in a TIE bomber. Flash animators, to your computers!!! (contact me if you need content...as I whore for even free inconsequential work....)

All taken from the TIE Fighter instruction manual. Apparently, 100 mglt (Megalights) is 1,365 mp/h. So, that means 200 mglt is 2,730 mp/h. Fast.

:eek: I've got this on my desk, it comes with a stand that makes laser noises, TIE noises and 3 different Vader quotes. And it shoots green plastic lasers. Cool or what?

My favorite is the A-wing. Of the two however, I definitely pick X-wing.

The basic tie fighter is a "H" shaped coffin. Interceptors and other Tie versions are ok though.

The Ravean Bum Ravager would win.

I seem to remember reading the instruction manual for Tie VS X-Wing once. It had this quote to say about the z-95 headhunter.

The most common phrase you will hear in relation to the Z-95 is "argh I've been hit!" followed by radio static.

X-Wing... you guys are forgetting, that's what the republic used X-Wings are trash but they still kick TIE ass. :mp5:

That's what the TIE Advanced (a.k.a. Avenger) is, except it has four laser cannons and advanced proton torpedo launchers.

X-wings, TIE fighters...they're all cannon fodder for Dobbsworld's ultimate weapon - the Orbital Electromagnetic Blunderbuss.

They'll know who to thank when the crews of those Star Destroyers soil themselves simultaneously!

I like the TIE advanced, but for some reason the shields on the modified interceptor are stronger, like, as strong as an Assault Gunboat if I remember. Also the modded interceptors tended to come with beam weapons while the advanced didn't, I rarely used the beams themselves, but the extra power lying around was great...

Any fighter could've crashed into the bridge of the Executor.

One on one, the Xwing wins, but quantity has its own quality, so its just a matter of seeing how many TIE fighters you need to take out Xwing, and how much is that in production costs;

Lets say that One Xwing is equal to three tie fighters:
- If the cost of three tie's is higher than the cost of one xwing, the xwing is better.
If the cost of three tie's is lower than the cost of one xwing, the Tie is better.


Remember economics gentlemen.. the Germans had the best tanks and best airplanes, but they lost to the Allied industrial might.

The rebellion could have lost the war that way.. offcourse, one must bear in mind that the Rebels used guerrilla, hit and run tactics, therefore taking away a large chunk of the Empire advantage in numbers.

Pros:
Sheilds
4 Turbo Lasers that can be set to various fire modes.
4 Torpedoes
Hyperdrive built in for long range missions
Aero dynamic design give it superior manuerability through atmosphere
Designed for High Probability of Pilot Survival.

Cons:
High Energy hog.
not as fast or maneuverable as TIE in space.
costly to maintain/build.

TIE (Standard)
Pros:
Cheap. quick to build.
Design offers hard-to-hit profile.
high agility and speed
Underslung Lasers makes Eyeballing (aiming without targeting computer) easier
Design also allows for less storage space.

Cons:
No Sheilds (unless in TIE Advance)
No Torpedos (must use Tie Bombers or Tie Advance or Greater.)
Agility suffers in Atmosphere. (Solar panels makes side to side turns difficult)
No Hyperdrive, short range fighter only.
Low Pilot Survival possibility.

so it depends on your philosophy. I preferre the X-Wing due to the fact that you have a greater chance of rescuing the pilot. the Sheilds makes it durable and the Torpedoes gives it a greater punch and versibility in missions.

Between those two, I think the superior pilot would take it.

Well, then I'll just elaborate:

Whereas the X-Wing is definitely better than your average TIE-Fighter or TIE-Interceptor, something else is very important as well - the pilots.

Many skilled pilots who objected the Emperor's reign joined the rebellion, taking their fighers and skills with them (that's how the Rebels got to have the X-Wings in the first place!).

Then, the Empire still seems to have that kind of a problem: Everyone on Tatooine wanted to join "the Academy". Now, since Luke & pals were all good pilots at home, where do you think they went? Straight to the Empire. How funny that many seem to end up fighting the Empire.

Now, a better craft and better skills and probably more flying hours definitely make an X-Wing a better weapon than your TIE-Fighter, and the equasion is quite clear when it comes to numbers vs. quality & chance of survival for the pilot, the TIE loses.

Then again, if I had a ship and skilled pilot to chose: I'd book passage on Han Solo's Millenium Falcon anytime. If pushing helps, I'd do it!

The X-wing is better individually. For the rebels, every ship counted because they really didn't have much of a fleet. They couldn't afford to throw ships away the way the empire could. There was the Tie-Defender from one of the games, though, which was cool.

But out of those choices, I'd go for a TIE Fighter. I'll take anyone 1 on, they in an X-Wing, me in a TIE and I'll win! :D

The Rebels got the X-Wing because the design team defected and took the plansb with them. The Empire favored TIEs and most pilots that defected with their fighters had TIEs

From the choices in the poll I'd atke the X-Wing from other fighters definatly the TIE-Defender (faster, more weapons, a little fragiler but overall better I think)
