Do you have any idea how old of an issue this is?

Remember that sculptor that made that very similar statue? It's the same issue.

Do I care?

Yeah - since when is jumping off a building and making it more important than the photos art? I was almost certain that good art, at least, required skill...

I'd say that falls more under stunt work...

Kind of funny though, the people who were there and ranted against him... still watched it. Makes you wonder why they stayed, watched and bitched instead of leaving right away if they hate it so much.

Its kind of lame. If he was a real artist he would have not used a harness and splattered himself on the street. Its like whatever. How much different does a 9-11 victim look jumping off a building compared to your everyday, run-of-the-mill suicide jumper?

I wouldn't really call it tasteless, or offensive. I just think that its alittle too early to be doing this. Come back in 30 years.

Even if it is old news, it still seems...incredibly pretentious.

Oh grow up. Art is meant to cause this, if your getting sucked in to be angry the artist wins either way.

Art that wasn't photorealistic was considered offensive, now those peoplpe who thought that way are considered as idiots.

Performance "Artists", along with Conceptual "Artists" are the biggests reason contemporary Art has such a bad rep. Usuallly performance art is much worse than this guys stuff I think its neither brilliant nor tasteless. Its both mediocre and clever though. It made people react and communicated something to people (be it disgust or admiration) because of the highly charged nature of the tragedy it is about. Good or Bad, it certainly smacks of exploitation of an event to further an otherwise mediocre career.

A good rule of thumb:

Any art that is decribed as either "performance", "concept" or "video installation" is usually dross.

Actually, Video Installations have a good deal of potential for greatness. Pity most of 'em fall far short of this. Mind you there is *some* really cool performance art but precious little of it is seen or heard of. Ever since I could hold a crayon, I wanted to be an Artist when I grew up. 4 years of Art College ruined Art for me for a very long time. Mostly because talentless, pretentious yahoos like this dude get all the attention & recognition. That and having to explain every god damn piece I sculpted, painted or drew. At least in music its a lot easier to avoid ninncompoops like this..thats why I switched media.

I am not denying the potential, it's only a rule of thumb. It has however worked admirably for me in the past. I've seen a lot of crappy Video Installations, and have yet to see a good one.

I am curious, why did you have to explain?
