Is it true!? Has Myrth retired!? Has the horrible, oppressive reign of the NS mods finally ended!? (Well, I suppose that's far too much to ask for...) Even so, Myrth is finally gone!? Let there be dancing in the streets! Shouts of joy! Get out the good champaign! A celebration I say!

Yes, Myrth has retired.

To see who the most likely candidate to take his place, I started a thread here. (http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showthread.php?t=426213&page=1&pp=15)

Well, I wouldn't call them oppressive, but if you're looking for a mod who is fast on the draw, just watch Frisbeteeria.

I really couldn't care less who's succeeding him. I'm just pleasantly surprised that he retired.

Any particular reason why he retired?

Agreed.

Frisbeteeria, the sharp-shooting mod.

I love him.

In a non-gay sense.

Assuming Fris is a he, which I've heard he is.

What happened to Myrth? Why did he retire? I gather there was some kind of abuse of mod powers... at least, so I've heard... there was an inquiry over in Moderation.

Abuse of mod powers, and the way he modded people.

You should.

Thought Myrth was bad?

Imagine Fris as the God Mod...

Hmmm...I think a disaster would be the rule of Frisbeeteria.
He's an excellent mod, but then, Darth Vader was an excellent lightsaber fighter.

...Or Cogitation. I shudder to think of what would happen to General under a self-proclaimed court jester.

...Or [violet]. After all, someone who doesn't exist and hardly ever posts can't be that important, can she? Then why is she? (I use a pronoun here for the sake of clarity. [violet] is really a 'they'.)

...Or... As a matter of fact, we shouldn't have mods at all. Or we should be allowed to elect our own mods. Of course, I'd probably vote for an already existing mod, and so would most people... so it would just be a :headbang: idea.

I do belive that it is possible to elect someone for consideration.

I'll go see.

It's been suggested before. Several hundred times. The mods flatly refuse, I think because they're afraid of losing their power.

Or perhaps it's because the most popular people aren't always the best for the job.

Yes. I suppose there was a reason why the mods were picked.

Judging from what I've read, it seems that the job of Moderator is akin to political office here in the US -- those who want the job should never be allowed to have it, and those who should have the job are smart enough to not want it.

To summarize: people are a problem.

Apologies to Douglas Adams, R.I.P.

RhynoD: Official Warning - Flamebait.

Myrth retired from Moderator duties due to real life responsibilities. He doesn't have enough time for real life, playing NationStates, and moderating NationStates. Any other questions should be taken to "Moderation". Any gloating or other behavior classifiable under the "malicious" clause can be canned and stashed with the spam.

I trust that I am clear. iLock.
