Just out of curiosity and since Germany will be hosting the Soccer/Football/Fußball World Championship next year I'd like to know what you think of Germany's national team and their performance over the years (including recent games)

I think they should contract some good French defence :p

Mmh. I don't think the coach will let you rent them out during a tournament - who know's what you'll do with them

Yesterday they played against Australia and won 4:3 - with a couple of nice goals on both sides, but it definitely didn't have to be that tantalizing.

New Zealand really gave them the hurry up in the Mexico Confederations Cup back in 1999 or 2000.
Aaron lines got hacked down twice in the box but the ref said it was outside.
the last one was on fultime and Captain Fantastic Zurisich(SP) stepped up to take the Penalty Slots it in the top left Corner!

Take that Germany!

Oh yeah, they returned really early from the Confed Cup in Mexico... But, we have a new coach now and things look bright, so I hope!

The German people really need some soulfood and Fußball is definitely very good to raise morale :D

I loved them back in 2001, 5:1 to us!, but I hate it whenever penalties are involved...

Uh... yes. Almost as successful as the German National Team of Hall-Yoyo.

(I just knew it was right to include that option!)

"Wel'll see how far they get..."
What a German thing to say!!! :D

No seriously, no one in Germany never trusts the poor team to do anything right. Then they win and people go "they won, BUT..." and are surprised.
Not that I'm any different.

I say we oughta play Saudi Arabia again. Now there was a morale booster deluxe!

They only beat us (Aus) 4-3, so they'll need to improve if they want to do well in the World Cup.

They'll do ok, i reckon they can get to the semis.

Depends if Ballack is playing well and that some of your strikers learn how to score...after seeing them in Euro 2004 you've gotta have someone who can put the ball in the back of the net who isn't a midfielder...

Yes, you're right... How fitting I happen to be German :)

And yes, that was the biggest opening surprise ever - and to be 2nd best wasn't too shabby either considering what Germany thought of its team before the WM!

Well, they are defending European champions... But they are going to lose that title to Norwegians on Saturday.. :D

Uhm - actually that isn't true. Greece is European Soccer Champion. That's how they come to play in the cup in the first place.

I am definitely thrilled to see Germany play Tunisia on Saturday. The beer is already in the fridge :p

It is true actually. But he is talking about the Woman's team, who are actually much better than the men's team. (Comparitavely)

Germany have a lot of work to do if they are to manage even the Quarter finals in 20o6.

Isn't Germany usually crushing all opposition beneath her heel in Women's football?

18-06-2005, 03:51
Imo, this isn't Germany's era to win the World Cup. They have some good players though they don't have a top quality squad, but we'll see how far they can go and how good their manager is. Greece won it without having pure quality on every side of the pitch, but they played a very tight game with great counter-attacking football.

Germany unfortunately, now prefers a more free-flow attacking. Can go awry.

In German football in general, wish we had more live cover here. Our Sky Sports only show us the British, Spanish and Italian football. No Bundesliga.

Yes, the German soccer chicks run everyone kaputt and then score twice as much as their opponents :)

I hope that the German male team will get their act together and will do likewise next year. I'm optimistic. Gotta be. After all, it's Fußball!!!

Yeah. I just hope they will do better then against Australia. Jeezz.....the defence looked like they were glued to their positions. So far the only REAL positive thing is that we are qualified by default for the WC. Beeing the hosts and all.

I believe you're right! (Damn, I would never confuse Jawas with Tusken Raiders!)

The U20? Uhm. Yes. I think we lost to Argentina 0:1 today but still reached the round of sixteen. I'll be looking forward to a couple of new talents that may be introduced to the WM06-Team.

Tor durch Michael Ballack!

And a 2nd Tor from Schweinsteiger! Yay!!

Hah! 30 seconds after he has joined the game, Hanke scores the 3rd goal!

If the boys beat Argenina on tuesday they will make it to the final. There they will probably loose against Brazil. Probably.

But at this time this is a young team with many new, talented faces (Schweisteiger, Podolski, Mertesacker, Hitzlsperger). Next year they could kick ass and actually win the world championship.
German Nightmare
19-06-2005, 15:49
Thanks for that assessment of the situation. I feel likewise, and not only because I oughta root for zee Germans :)

Argentina will definitely be a tough nut to crack - all depending on whether the Germans are willing to run, attack, and actually play Fußball.

Schland!
German Nightmare
21-06-2005, 17:39
Okay, so for the game today which will be against Argentina, the Germans will be playing with their 3rd goalie, Timo Hildebrand.

We'll see how that works out :)

Again, I've got my hopes high and keep my fingers crossed for Schland!
