Having doubts about your team? Want to be a bona fide fan of the best team in New York, and Baseball? It's easy! Benefits include:

-Access to popular slogans including "Ya gotta' believe."
-Privy to popular Yankee bashing maxims like "Skankees" and "Bronx Zoo"
-Possible fooling people into thinking you're from New York, the best city in the world, if you actually aren't
-The warm feeling that comes from being a supporter of the number one baseball team on the East Coast...the world even.

Just study up on Mets history, watch for news, and visit Mets related internet sites. Denounce other teams as "your" team, (although you can still like other teams) and buy some Mets merchandise. There you have it, you're a Mets fan! Let's go Mets!

Although they have outhit the A's 3-1...I guess that makes them winning? I don't know. I guess not.

Gambloshia, I notice your location thing under your name says you're in San Francisco. You live there? But are a Sox fan?

There is a great point of pride. "We spend ridiculous sums of money on aging superstars and we can't get above .500!"

First things first, manage to win the division against a team with 1/3 your payroll, then see if you can win the division without wasting shitloads of cash.

At least Steinbrenner gets some performance for his overblown payroll.

lol. You're still living three years ago. If you haven't noticed, Steinbrenner's team is headed for hell in a handbasket. First year since drug testing kicks in too..... ;)

sure, gotta love Pedro and Beltran. Plus Piaza is on my fantasy team, and I owe them for knocking the FLubs around last September ending their wildcard lead. GO WHITE SOX though, and I hate the Yankees

Their artificially maintained bodies are falling apart at the seams. Now if only Jeter would get Kirby Pucketted and have to retire.

Oooh, the White Sox. Real good team. That Ozzie Guillen sure is a character, but hey, whatever gets you wins. They'll make the playoffs, for sure, and I can't think of anyone in the American league who could beat them.

lol. Really though, as much as I hate Jeter, that's not funny....even though I said "lol." I guess it's what you call a "tasteless remark."

I'm full of those, and of course I don't actually mean it, I think.

I was actually a huge fan of Kirby Puckett and the Twins back in their glory days. But then Frank Thomas, Robin Ventura, and Jack McDowell turned me into a White Sox fan in the early 90s and I have been a fan ever since.

Robin Ventura...dang...he was hardly good for anything except hitting Grand Slams. But when you had the bases loaded, he was the one you wanted up there. Practically four guaranteed runs. The Mets had him for a while but then he left and they got Wiggy, and then he left cause Wright came up, and now he's smacking the ball. I think Ventura retired a few years ago.

By the way, the Mets-A's game is now tied 2-2 in the bottom of the eighth.

That's because the anti-sports lifestyle leads to obesity and poverty as well as heart attack and stroke.

Not that much, just a dislike of professional sport

I don't want to become a Mets fan because I very much enjoy hating the team that I am a "fan" of. They suck totally and completely.

I'm a fan since back when Torre was a player/manager.

We're accepting applications now. But, when we really start getting hot, the True Fan rank will be closed to newcomers and you will only qualify for FrontRunner.

You people who hate the Yankees are simply jealous of their continuing success. You say they suck, but it's trying to cover up the fact that you have 4 world series championships.

I've always been a Yankee fan, I'll always be a Yankee fan, and none of your mind tricks will get me to turn to the orange and blue side. Although George's policy of buying aging stars for vast amounts of money who then don't perform because they are past their prime is pissing me off.

-edit- the Mets record is 32-33, so says the MLB website (http://mlb.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb/mlb/standings/index.jsp).

I posted 32-32 yesterday, before they lost. Now they're 33-33 with a win today.

Quite some surprise that the Skankees run into problems the first year after people start getting nailed for steroids, huh? What a strange coincidence. That Jason Giambi sure was a steal though, wasn't he?
