As a follower of athletisme, must say that I am surprised that this athelete blew the US doped product (Tim Montgomery) 2002 record of the tables.
With only a low windspeed of 1,60m/sec the 22 year old Powell pulverised the old record witgh a new best time of 9"77.
Some people say that the 100m. will be run each 100 year with 1 sec. faster.I researched a bit the old records and regarding those and the continuated bettter training (and doping), I must say that the first 100 years now suscribe the thesis.
Evolution of the Worldrecord: (dates are btw
in world standard, day/month/year, thus not the US standard)
06/07/1912 Donald Lippincott (US)-10"6
23/04/1921 Charles Paddock (US)-10"4
09/08/1930 Percy Williams (Can)-10"3
20/06/1936 Jesse Owens(US)-10"2
03/08/1956 Willie Williams (US)-10"1
21/06/1960 Armin Hary (W-Germ.)-10"0
14/10/1968 Jin Hines (US)-9"95
03/07/1983 Calvin Smith (US)-9"92
24/09/1988 Ben Johnson -9"88 (I ad him to here since most doped athletes are in the US regarding the numbers and don't give their medalls back to th eOlympic comity, wich is obliged, busted Lewis/ Montgommery aso kept medals altough asked back and officially given to others now).
24/09/1988 Carl Lewis (US)-9"92 (another doped US athlete, I did not know then, I was a fan, like many..).
14/06/1991 Leroy Burell (US)-9"90
25/08/1991 Carl Lewis (again! )-9"86
06/07/1994 Leroy Burell (again)-9"85
27/07/1996 Donovan Bailey (Can)-9"84
16/06/1999 Maurice Green (US)-9"79 (my personal all time favorite is this US athlete, the way he broke and pulverised the record was unseen since 1986, a very great runner and not busted, wich is special and deserves appreciation for being a US runner)
14/09/2002 Tim Montgommerey (US)-9"78
14/06/2005 Asafa Powell (Jam)-9"77
Guess the 9"50 will fall somwhere around 2050 and the 9"00 around the 2090ties. Some scientists say that the ultimate limit lies around 6"50/7"00. Well this would give us 3 centuries before starting like a cheetah.
Respect, Asafa! And stay clean.
