Doctor Who?

Hi everyone! I just wanted to see what you all thought of the new Doctor Who series (UK). Personally I'm loving it, and I can't wait for the series finale on Saturday but many people I have spoken too seem to think it's cheap and rubbish. Maybe it's a marmite thing: you either love it or you hate it.
If you don't know what I'm on about then Doctor Who is an old sci-fi type show that ran for many years with about 6 different actors (at different times) as the Doctor (a time-lord who uses his police-box time-machine to travel through space and time righting wrongs and fighting the Daleks - never mind) but was cancelled about a decade ago and this year was brought back to our screens starring Christopher Eccleston and Billie Piper. It's not as geeky as it may sound and it's real family entertainment and as I say I'm really enjoying it but what do y'all thonk?

Christopher Eccleston rules as the Doctor.
Billie Piper is better than I ever expected.
Although I haven't been watching it recently, due to homework.
I'll buy it on DVD if I can.
On a Tuesday so that none of my schoolyard comrades see me.
Where's the "I've watched most of them when I had time and I thought it was pretty good" option?

Sorry :(
Is it possible to modify a poll? I will if I can...

Top rate writing, and contemporary, too.

Yeah...I sometimes watch the DW confidential thing on BBC3 and that's quite good because the writer and the director of the series talk about what they were doing and they are quite enthusiastic but the actors especially Eccleston seem really depressed in those programmes though.

I've been enjoying Dr Who. Great Stuff.
Only saw a few episodes, I didn't think it was great. But then I was never an avid doctor who fan.

CBC has been running it in Canada. It didn't start as well as I'd hoped but it has steadily improved into quite a good show. "The Empty Child" and "The Doctor Dances" were brilliant.
It's disappointing to read that Eccleston appears depressed in those segments, but it might explain why he is leaving after one season. He does a superb job of combining the best elements of Jon Pertwee, Tom Baker, and Peter Davidson (sp?): committed, concerned, confused, crazy.

Yeh i agree with you - that double bill really scared me - but in a good way! Eccles is a great actor and i will be sad to see him go. I just hope next year will be as good. It's kind of like spooks - i watched the 1st series but then it got a bit serious and the lead guy left and was replaced by an annoying git (in my opinion) and so i didn't watch it anymore. I just hope DW doesn't go the same way

Personally I hate it. It just makes me laugh out loud at how unbelievably crap it is. Though apparantly I'm just not used to the style.

Oh boy oh boy oh boy I'll blank out the next line:
DALEKS! LOADS OF 'EM! NEXT WEEK!
I couldn't be happier. Love the somewhat-slightly-more-than-implied bisexuality of Captain Jack, by the way. It got me thinking of all sorts of uhh, 'plotlines'.
Yeah, 'plotlines'. That's what they are. Not lurid fantasies. Not at all.

I love it. I've watched every episode, think it's great, and Eccleston has just the right levels of arrogance, compassion and weirdness for the Doctor.
The Empty Child was scaaaaaary…

I preferred The Tomorrow People. I loved that show when I was a kid.

I got the .mp3 of the theme music. Loved it when I was younger. Used to dream about that computer, too. And jaunting.

Its is absolutely brilliant. Chris Eccleston and billie piper really are good and make the series even better along with the storylines and even the funny comments and things in it. Christopher Eccleston as the Doctor is hugely enjoyable to watch and I we shall see if David Tenant will be able to be as good as Eccleston.
Superb Show, can't say anything bad, something that is actually good to watch on Saturday nights.

Second and third series were confirmed today apparently, along with two christmas specials (one for this year, one for next). Hurrah.

What episode is it up to in the UK? In australia its only up to the fourth or fifth, the ones where earth is invaded by those weird things that mutate the pig.
So far i like it, but that episode where there's ghosts in the gas lamps was just ridiculous.

i suppose that makes sense, since it's made in UK. Are there australian shows in the uk that are behind us?
