I'm sorry about this, I know Texpunditstan already put up a link to the Mighigan three weekly website, but....

Canada Voted Worst State in U.S.

A recent Gallup poll shows that Americans think Canada is the worst state in the U.S. The poll, given to a random sampling of 4,000 Americans across the country, asked the participants to write in their vote for the state they think is, among other categories, "Best," "Worst," "Ugliest," "Rednecky-est," and "Most Likely to Succeed after Graduation."

Bill McNeil of Gary, Indiana was one of the participants in the poll. "There's just something un-American about them Canadians," he says. "They talk kind of weird, they're too damn polite, their cities are clean and free of crime, they use this funny-colored money that ain't worth no more than Monopoly money.hell, they already act like they're living in a separate country. I say, boot 'em out!"

Jack Spleenum, who conducted the poll, says that the findings bucked many earlier trends. Among some of the other results of the poll, Wyoming was voted "Best State in which to be a Buffalo," California was voted "State Most Resembling California," and South Dakota was voted "Ugliest," but also captured the "Congeniality" prize, which Spleenum maintains is "is a prestigious and important honor.if you're too ugly to win the important prizes."

But, Spleenum says, "the real cream filling in this Ding-Dong of information is Canada. Over 65% of those polled selected it as the worst state. It trounced the next closest, which was Oklahoma City with 18%."

The governor of Canada could not be reached for comment.

1: Gary, Indiana is just South of Chicago, which could pretty much be considered South Chicago.

2: Somebody from the Chicagoland area will not say "them Canadians", or "ain't".

5: This "joke" is totally lame.

I thought it was funny so...

I guess, for those of you keeping tabs on me, you can add "Questionable Sense of Humor" to your list of traits...

Potaria, he's obviously an idiot. Would an idiot from the Chicagoland area say that?

It's FUNNY!!!
I've no doubt that you could actually dig up people who think that Canada is a state of the US, but that thing has to be a joke anyway.
And I just love it.

*NEWSFLASH*

The election results from Canada for the 2004 US Presidential election have finally been tabulated and John Kerry has won with a whopping 72%. This means that Canada's 55 Electoral College votes will go to John Kerry, tipping the scales.

Sorry George, but you must step down now. :D

Before you go though George, you might want to consider taking the vacant Ambassador job in Iraq? We do believe that body armour will be provided free of charge. Perhaps you might want to take Dicky with you, so that he can keep an eye on his Halliburton stock options? :D

Hahaha, that was funny. It reminds me of that video I saw before where a bunch of people were spoofed into thinking that Canada had a 23 hour system and were finally moving to the 24 hour system. The biggest punchline was when they interviewed the governor and he actually congratulated Canada on moving to that system. And best of all, several people interviewed prior to him all said he was very intelligent. Now if only I could find that video again.

Sorry, I didn't find it funny.

Some Americans can get pompous, but the "Canada is superior" mentality I have shoved down my throat every time I step out the door is just as bad. Its almost worse simply because its always aimed at America specifically.

There was one thing I found downright offensive about it though - "Canadian cities are so clean and free of crime."

I work in Vancouvers Downtown Eastside. I leave my quiet suburban neighborhood (which has its share of problems, but so does every neighborhood) get on the bus and end up in what looks like a third world country. Fortunately for me I work inside but I still get to see the folks shooting up, the human feces lying in the street, the inventive ways and places people have found to hotknife their poison of choice, and just the general human tragedy. These aren't bums mind you - well, not like the old guy begging on the corner - these are tragedies.

Finding a cadaver, though I have not had the pleasure, is not unheard of. The rate of HIV infection rivals some places in Afrika. Average life expectancy for a male? 53. But remember, that is an average. Half are lucky and fall on one side of the scale, half aren't.
[/rant off]

Its a pity, I really like the old buildings down there - nice little brick blocks with iron fire escapes running down their faces.

Errrr, what sphincter did you pull THAT stat out of? I mean - the life expectancy of what exactly is 53? Drug addicts? People with HIV? And this suprises you no matter what locale you are talking about?

In point of fact, BC has a life expectancy of over 80 years, (http://www.northwestwatch.org/press/tpoe02bc.pdf#search='life%20expectancy%20british%20columbia') which - if your little localized stat has any shred of fucking truth to it - means it is actually HIGHER for everyone else as the drug addicts in your region pull the average down.

You want to use THAT as a comparison factor? It blows the fucking doors off the Canadian national average AND the US average by a long shot.

But hey - if THAT is your benchmark of choice, well OK then. Let's compare 80+ years in BC to the horrid 66 years that a black man in Arkansas gets (http://www.ualr-iea.com/research/demographic/migration/lifetables/AbridgedLifeTable.pdf#search='arkansas%20life%20expectancy')

Gee, given a choice, which stat would I choose to live with...... dunno about YOU, but I'll take the extra 14 years - even if it means I have to live next to an immigrant who's pastime is complaining about where he has decided to live.

Canada ain't perfect. It has it's share of problems, it's share of bad policies and politicians, and it's share of assholes both home-grown AND imported. But if you really want to try stacking up one small slum in Vancouver to South Central LA, or any sort of generalized medical statistics between the countries as your argument for anything, I think you are setting yourself up for being on the losing end of the debate.

I remember that short (in Rick Mercer's "Talking To Americans")- it was the 20-hour clock, not the 23. Mercer also got Arkansas Governor Mike Huckaby to "congratulate Canada on preserving its national igloo".

Nope. Too outlandish and stupid.

I'm pretty sure the story comes form a Michigan university paper similar to the onion, but at a college level. I think there was a story linked the other day about a girl with no arms who was considered to be of below average intelligence and social functioning because of her inability to play dodgeball and unwillingness to shake hands.

Ah, yes, Main & Hastings, popularily reffered to as Pain & Wastings. I have to agree with you. It really is that bad.

However, if you've ever had the misfortune of being in Gary, Indiana, you'd realize that anywhere in the world besides Gary, Indiana is a veritable heaven of cleanliness & sanity.

As a Canadian, I do think this fake "poll" is not to kind to Americans. Most of em' know Canada exists, and as a seperate country. Most wouldn't want to live here (on a permanent basis) either. *shrug* I didn't find it too humurous myself, until they quoted the ding-dong from Gary.
