Erm, no one cares about the poor peasants in China?

Not really, I would suppose they only care when they want to make someone else look worst than they do.

Besides, from everything I've read, this seems to be a rather short term solution. Eventually, those factories will go back up and harsher preventive measures will be implemented.

Actually, I posted this earlier this week; I already beat you to the punch... and even so, it didn't get much notice.

Later that night, villagers said, some migrant workers sneaked into the courtyard and started scavenging for parts among the destroyed vehicles. Outraged, villagers immediately called police. Officers refused to respond.

That was quite funny :p

Erm, no one cares about the poor peasants in China? We need pictures. Lots of pictures. Maybe some video footage. Even that wasn't enough in 1989. Lots of pictures, video footage, and panty shots might do the trick

Hmmm, could Kuehenberg be *gasp* racist? =p

Hmm, probably just misinformed and bigoted then.

Hahaha, Pantylvania. Your name does sort of give away your supposed addiction.

Wonderful! It's a long shot, but hopefully this is a glimpse of a future second Communist revolution that will tear down the corrupt Stalinist policies endorsed by Beijing and establish a true Communist state.

...OR bring Democracy. The people were mad that they weren't being represented, and they wanted their voice heard.

Democracy trumps Communism.

The two aren't mutually exclusive, communism is an economic policy (mostly) although the communist manifesto states that after a while government will become unnessessary and dissolve (not exact wording, I don't have time to read it, and democracy(in its pure form, not a Republic) allows all power to the people, ie government is not nessessary.

Actually, its democracy trumps corrupted communism. So far, the forms we have seen in practice are not really communism as originally envisioned.

I know it isn't.

But do you really think the CHINESE will come up with perfect communism? Hell no. In fact, scratch that, do you think that HUMANS will put Perfect Communism into practice? Hell no. Until they suck out our brains and put in machines that are all exactly the same, there's no way perfect communism would work. Why? BECAUSE IT'S PERFECT!

(Also, China is way too big for "Perfect" Communism to work correctly)

Perfect democracy doesn't quite work either you realize? But in either case, the term perfection itself should tell you enough. Its an impossible goal to make a perfect anything. Heck, even if you made machines, they would have to be designed by humans, and most likely have flaws as well.

In short, nothing is perfect. But enough about that. Back on topic.

Quick question. Does anyone think this particular incident will actually have long term effects or be swept under the rug? No mindless baching as responses please.

I'm surprised the Government of China even let it out :(.

I'm afraid it will go basically forgotten...

Actually, they could have let it out because they wanted it to get out. What was it again? A spoonful of hope? You would be surprised at the feel-good effect it might bring. Careful manipulation allows people a false sense of freedom and empowerment, while you are in-effect taking it away. Who knows? Its not something that is limited in application to one country or system of government after all.

And yes, it will be eventually forgotten. By both the media and the viewer.

I think this is the second threat on the subject. Besides history shows that these things are downright common in Chinese history, and is not indicative of anything much. No downfall of governments is terribly likely to occur, nor is this seeming 'success' anything much to crow about.
