Today, in underdeveloped nations, corporations own the land people live on. As a result the majority of the population end up working for the corporation at whatever salary they can get. Rarely does this salary cover expenses for food and basic shelter, let alone medical fees and education for their children.

They might not use whips or chains, as the threat of starvation is enough to motivate the general population to comply, but when unions are organised, often they will use legislation as a justification to imprison these "dissidents". Or use terror tactics such as assassinations and kidnappings to deter any "communist" ideology.

Actually here, we prefer well organized unions to deter communist ideology! Freedom is worth double time on holidays and a 35 hour work week!
