I Fought The Law by The Bobby Fuller Four. Great song, and it's even better in its true "Texas" version (read: the version that wasn't skewed by corporate producers).

Whoever did "Brimful of Asha"

Cornershop.

Mine was Dee Lite. At least I'm pretty sure that "Groove is in the Heart" was their only hit. They did a video for "power of love" and "good beat" but I don't think they were actual hits.

Yeah, The Bangles had quite a few classics. Walk Like An Egyptian being one of them.

I might have to say Brimful of Asha is my favourite one hit wonder. I loved Breakfast at Tiffany's when it came out by my taste in music has changed and Cornershop are still able to stay on my "Favourites" list.

Yeah, and "Manic Monday", so I guess they should actually be called "some-hit wonders". Still, three songs in a whole career isn't that much.

And how many hits did Mozart have?

Are you actually comparing entire symphonies to ca 4-minute pop melodies?!

Mozart wrote well over 600 works. How many of these that became very popular I cannot say (I'm not much of a Mozart fan) but I'd wager quite a few.

Over the years. Just like Van Gogh's paintings did not become valued until after his death. And yes, I would compare the quality of a symphony to a pop hit... a significant minority of pop hits mind you.

Keep in mind, Mozart wrote symphonies and operas because it was the format in which music made money and artists, despite the way history enobles them, still need to eat.

I would have to say the one hit wonder that stands out most in my mind would be Vanilla Ice. Ok, so it's cliche, and the song is terrible, but back in the day it was cool...at least I thought it was.

What about Ini Kamozi - Here comes the Hotstepper? Anyone remember anything else he did?

White Town - Your Woman
Kittie - Brackish
Lisa Loeb - Stay
Snow - Informer

Maybe they aren't one hit wonders. I'm not sure, but these are the only songs I remember hearing on the radio and such.

If you're talking about "Ice Ice baby" you should check out the original by Queen and David Bowie called "Under Pressure"

Rap one hit wonders shouldn't count if the song they rip off was already a hit. ie. "Walk This Way" by RUNDMC/Aerosmith or anything by P.Diddy

While he did copy the riff of Under pressure, it was not a remake of that song. Riffs get "borrowed" all the time in music. I'd say that Vanilla Ice had a legitimate one hit wonder.

But do check out "Under Pressure".

Not technically a one-hit-wonder as far as the UK goes - Sylvia also charted.

Focus - Sylvia was a bigger hit that Hocus Pocus
FGtH were the first band since Jerry and the Pacemakers to have their first three singles go to No 1. Two Tribes and Welcom to the Pleasure Dome as well inb case you had forgotten

I am now going to risk one that also may not be a OHW, but I only know of one hit

Golden Earring - Radar Love.

This is weird, suddenly encountering lots of people who have a reasonably in depth knowledge of Focus, who are pretty much a forgotten band. Its like whenever a thread on 'best guitarists' comes up, then everbody starts talking about the Mahavishnu Orchestra - a band that never seem to get mentioned in RL.

A real one-hit-wonder:
"They're coming to take me away" by Napoleon Dynamite

I'm a OHW purist in that I view a OHW as a popular single released by someone who never puts out anything else again, aside from maybe one crappy cash-in album.

So Iggy Pop is definitely not a OHW. Besides, he's released/written hundreds of songs over the years. 'China Girl' and 'Let's Dance' were co-written by him for example. So you could argue that he's had at least 3 hits.

And while Bobby McFerrin might be considered a OHW for his 'Don't worry, be Happy' song, he has actually released a lot of cool interesting music - especially the classical album he did with Yoyo Ma where he vocalised one of the instruments. Obviously this wasn't interesting/exciting enough for the general public to make it a hit.
