Memo may tie U.N. chief to oil-for-food deal (http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/8216602/)

That's right folks. Apparently, and this hasn't been confirmed yet, that our beloved UN Chief, Secretary-General Koffi Annan, may have had a connection to Oil for Food after all. Investigators are checking out the Company's Executive emails.

I do not know if this is true, but if it is, it could spell the end of Koffi's reign as S.G. If true, it'll show he had strong reasons to avoid going into Iraq and therefore, cloud his judgements.

This is all speculation at this point so I don't know if its true or not.

Thoughts?

Or it'll get treated like the DS one.

Who am I kidding, the US media will be all over it.

If turns out to be true then yea I agree with you. I am not sure if it is or not. That is why I kept saying it may be true. If it is true, etc.

I am hoping it isn't because I do have respect for the position of the Secretary-General and this would ruin that position. I don't want to see that happen but I also would like to know the full truth if possible.

Ok I am having a hard time believing that after all the venom you have thrown at the UN.

And if you are a truth seeker; you after if for DeLay?

Yes I am. Just like I have been going after the intel used for Iraq though the humanitarian reasons make up for the intel but that just me.

The man is a harmless idealist. That's exactly what you need as Secretary-General, because only an idealist will be disgusted enough with the usual nationalistic politcking to remain independent.
He's a pacifist, and he believes in a better future if we work together.
Because he's a pacifist, he was against the war in iraq. For him, like for most of the world, there was no justification for it and the motives that were presented weren't the actual ones.
And now people who are offended, namely US-ians, are after him with a dirt campaign. That may be quite common in the US, but why treat him this way?
He pretty much never saw his son, he would have been quite busy while he held office. His son may have been an arsehole, and lying to his own father, but why you have to use that against Kofi is beyond me.

Leonstein,

Incase you haven't noticed, I never said he was guilty here. I just want to get to the truth on Oil for Food. This came out so I posted it to get people's thoughts. No need to get defensive of Koffi Annan. This isn't a dirt campaign either. Its an investigation into the Corruption of Oil For Food and it happened to land Koffi Annan under investigation.

Did he have something to do with it? I don't honestly know. I've said that several times through out this thread now. However I do want the truth regarding this. If Koffi is guilty, the investigation will show it. If not, the investigation will show that too.

We just have to wait and see.

Thoughts are you posted this well ... also wondering what the deal is with Bolton and if there's going to be any media preference ....

Thank you Straughn :)

I don't know about media preference but with Bolton, he's considered to strong minded and opinionated to be the US Ambassador to the UN by some people. He is also very critical of the UN and others feel since he is critical of the UN that he shouldn't be in it.

As for me, I think he should be there because he is critical of the UN. Maybe he can begin the process of reforming it so that it can become viable.

Too soon to know and the news report is way too vague to make speculation worth anything. There's hints, but some of the points in the article are contradictory as well so...

Yeah, wait and see where this is going.

Yea though Koffi is going to have to be careful. Not to mention, he's going to have to answer some questions. This just won't go away.

Though I have bashed the UN on several occassions, it is sad seeing this happen to the organization.
