Weird Pet Quirks

What pets do you have, and what peculiar quirks do they have? In particular, what kind of peculiar things do they eat that you wouldn't expect them to eat?

Those of you who have read my previous posts may be aware that I'm "Mummy" to both a cat and a lizard. My lizard has a heater and lots of lovely rocks and logs to snooze on, but last night I found him curled up on a cushion in front of the people-heater. He likes soft things. Sometimes I find him lying on piles of clothes. I'm thinking of getting him a pillow, if only to motivate him to sleep in his lizard-house.

My cat likes coconut milk, prunes, and sunflower seeds, but the seeds slip out between her teeth before she can chew them up. With training, she may become a vegetarian like me. She likes tofu, provided that it's slathered in a sauce. At the moment, her sauce of choice is blackbean. She should write a recipe book, but she complains that she can't hold a pen because she hasn't got opposable thumbs.

My pitbull just loves to eat sushi. Don't ask me why.

My grandparents are vegitarians and wanted to make their cats vegitarians. I threatened to turn them in to the ASPCA if they did. Cats cannot manufature the essential amino acid taurine and it will slowly kill them to go without meat. Only after they go blind, though.

This isn't exactly related to eating habits, but my dog sometimes sticks her back legs in the air and uses her front legs to pull herself around on the carpet while growling at her stomach. She then proceeds to stand up, bark at her tummy, and repeat the process. The first time, I thought rabies had gotten the best of her :(

My two cats will eat ANYTHING they can find on the floor.

Also, one of them sticks his head up inside a lampshade when the lamp is on to warm his head. That's the one we consider a "special needs" cat with ADHD. :p

My cat likes to scratch at the window looking into the lounge.. which is kind of cute, til you have to wash the windows..

I used to have another cat who would sit on the windowsill next to the front door and use it's paw to lift the knocker up and literally knock on the door to come inside. Took me ages to find out it was the cat and not some random kids playing knock and run all the time

As the servant of eight cats I've noticed they're all fucking freaks.
Bubba can't stand to have anything but him occupy my attention. Hence the coputer keyboard, magazines, cards and dice frequently become objects of his ire. If he gets comfortable on your lap and you try to move him, he moans pitiably and digs his claws into your legs.
Maggie hates strangers and will hiss and spit at them if they come in her house. I think she frightened the cable guy. She has actually attacked a couple of kids. She seems to especially despise children.
Lucy has probably brought me a specimen of every animal smaller than a cat. Sometimes alive, more often not.

I just remembered, when my cat was about 1 year old, she 'caught' a toasted ham and cheese sandwhich, which she proceeded to carry home and eat. Probably knicked it off some kid. She's such a scab-artist.

Last year she brought me a deflated balloon, which she left for me to "have" (presumably to eat.) She usually takes her own, more tasty kills into the toilet, so she doesn't have to share. On Australia Day weekend she brought home a few discarded coctail frankfurts. She didn't share those. And yes, I'm aware that cats are carnivorous, and my comments about her converting to vegetarianism were facetious. The ensuing flatulence would be problematic.

I used to have one who's frequent flatulence just about took the paint off the walls. It was so much worse than human farts ever get.

My cat lies flat on her back with her legs spread-eagled (so each leg touches the floor) in the middle of the living room. I've never seen a cat lie like that ever. It's just looks wrong.

My pug does that as well, except for the barking at her stomach. We call it "going commando". Whenever she finds a treat like a carrot or a toy she forgot about, she'll always run around the house at top speed before diving into her bed. Since we have hard-wood floors, one has to be carful to not be taken out by the pug as she skids along.

As for our cat, she's apparently taken a liking to me so much that feels I'm deserving of gifts. When she had a cat-post I would find dead birds stuffed under it, and this weekend she left a half-eaten mouse next to my computer. She would of left a live hatching in my bed once, except my mother caught her made her cough it up. Our house is also full of traumatized lizards thanks to her.

Screw cat nip! My cat gets high off olives - that's really weird.

She also eat lettece. She'll lick my plate after I've eaten and I'm a vegetarian, so I don't know why she likes it.

We give her canned cat food. The cheapter and stinkier it is, the more she loves it...

I have a beagle who ate an entire 5lb bag of uncooked rice...

He also enjoys plastic...

Neither of those foods enjoy him. :D

My cat once chased a large dog away from our house. also, she'll only eat canned food if it's beef flavored. she won't even touch it if it's another flavor. Oddly, she'll eat any flavor of dry food or treats. Lastly, my car loves to jump on my lap and do a weird massage motion, sometimes with her claws out. It usually makes me end up going numb. and like every day, she's asleep in a diffrent chair, latly this office chair I'm in.

Cats actually need their greens aswell as meat, didnt know about this till i found my cat literally grazing in the backyard..
Called up my aunt who is a biologist to ask about the why and she told me that carnivores need some amount of greens.

A cat grazing looks very silly though :)

I do feline rescue, and all of mine and my housemates companions ( all = 7 at the moment )are special needs cats, that are unadoptable.

Basheeba Blind Kitty was born without eyes, and was found wandering in an apartment parking lot at about two months of age. She does not act like one might expect a sightless cat to act. She runs and leaps quite happily. She also 'chases the fairies' as we call it. She will leap and pounce on things invisible to the human eye, but are apparently quite real to her. She'll grab them up, shake them, seemingly toss them away and leap after them.

She will also 'hide' and wait for other cats, or people to pass by, then she will dive out and wrap herself around the victim. No claws out, no biting, just 10 pounds of sleek black cat wrapped tightly about ankles.

My hamsters like to sleep on top of each other. And they'll always fight for the top position. So like Luffy would finally sleep below while Vivi sleeps on top, then after a while when Vivi falls asleep, Luffy crawls slowly and plunks himself on top of her. And they'll fight again.

My brother when he bought another male pet hamster, he didn't check it properly.. One eye is bigger than the other. My bro just thought it was sleepy, but one eye really is bigger than the other.

I have a bird that can compose his own songs. Really. There is only one catch: He can't repeat anything. Well, maybe just once. Then he mixes it. I have heard from him a cross between The Andy Griffith Show, The Mario Brothers Theme, and that one song from "Pokemon".

He, until recently, believed he was a dog. he would walk around, bark (CHEEP! CHEEEEEEEEEEP!!!!) And eat stuff that fell under the table. After he discovered he had wings, we're pretty sure he's over it.

And, his favorite person is my little brother. We all find this odd. He will, while we're eating, go up to my brothers feet and start singing. Right in his foot. This is not odd compared to why we wonder why my bro is his favorite person. He has, to date:

Stepped on him; several times...
Shut him in a door...
He hit a ceiling fan once (my bird)
Trapped him under heavy blankets for several minutes
Lost him outside. MAnY times.

Oh well. The bird acts as guard dog to my brother. It's painfully funny.

And, he eats chicken. This is weirder because his nickname is "the Chicken".
