At the moment, I in a company where planning ahead doesn't exist.
They apply his principle to everything including IT.
In my area, Application Development - this is a very bad idea. I can't roll out perfect applications at first attempt, especially grafting on an existing system which works in reverse to what you want it to.

Get a new employee, they order the new computer for the person after they arrive.
Moving office - you get told on the day.

Do this reflect your employer?

Uh oh, looks like somebody's got a case of the Mondays!

But yeah, I hate the one-day drop as well. WTF? Is that supposed to increase productivity or "challenge" us (bullshit term for extra work).

I've been chasing my tail for the last four weeks. Everyone wants old problems fixed and is finding new ways to keep me busy with new problems (or problems not found until now).

Oh yes, my old computer blew up on Sunday. Now shopping for a brand new one to replace it. Using my laptop.

Where do you work? You said IT, so I was wondering.

Yes, a one man App Dev and database Administrator.
Good job when there's no one working, a rotten one when things go funny.

Sonds difficult. I was thinking about going in to IT in 1999 (year I graduated from high school), but switched to finance after the dot-coms collapsed during my first two years of college.

The job would be easier if people understood verbal specifications for IT people are the worst way to convey their message. Give me a big detailed written one and I'm happy, but no one every does that where I work.
