Funniest Movie Ever?

Trexia

I had started a thread earlier titled "Greatest Movie Ever?". I realized now that I needed one for funny movies all by itself. My personal favorite comedy is the Marx Brothers' "Duck Soup" (1933). Thoughts?

Best scene: black sheriff enters an Old West town, steps up to the podium, reaches into his pocket and says "Excuse me while I whip this out". Everybody screams until they realize he's only pulling out a written speech. :D

Okay, so my mate thinks it's the funniest thing he's ever seen, but its just DULL.

And Blazing Saddles is brilliant. Redneck cowboys singing gospel? Genius.

This may be the most out-of-character comment ever, considering my nation name, but I have to say:

"Undercover Brother" (2002)

But leading up to it is just as good.

Johnson on the stage : "He says our sheriff is getting near..."

And you know how that ends up :)

I'm not sure I could even make a short list of the funniest, but many of those already here (Duck Soup, the works of Monty Python, Blazing Saddles, Young Frankenstein) are definitely up there.

I'd also nominate:

A Fish Called Wanda
Arsenic & Old Lace
Raising Arizona
The Thin Man
It Happened One Night
The Producers
Bringing Up Baby
Groundhog Day
Adam's Rib
A Shot in the Dark

The Producers,
a classic

Monty Python and the Holy Grail, Young Frankenstein,

and more recently
the Aquatic life, with bill murray and owen wilson, i thought it was hillarious

and even more recently
Kung Fu Hustle, if anyones seen it here i'd be surprised, i thought it was unspeakably hillarious.

Ah, "The Producers", what a great show. Mel Brooks seems to be taking the honors as funniest director.

Don't leave out "The Blues Brothers", that makes me laugh every time I see someone in dark glasses.

I agree. I'm not so arrogant as to think that there might not be something in their that I don't see, but... well... I don't see it.

You can exaggerate foolhardiness to the point that it becomes funny and spoof action movies. You can exaggerate horror schlock until it becomes funny and spoof horror movies. But when you exaggerate boring it doesn't get funny, it just gets reeeeeally boring. It's like that old NPR sketch on SNL.

As for my pick. Clerks. Kevin Smith has had his moments since, but he's never gotten funnier than Clerks. Of course, I do keep forgetting to go see Silver City.

Seen both those plays...but not the movies. Sadly.

I think Monty Python (the entire group) and Mel Brooks should have had a love child...somehow.

History of the World part 1 was really underrated. I personally think it is one of his [Mel Brooks] best. Plus, he played like, 20 roles in it.
Come on, making The Inquisition a musical number? And the preview for Hitler on Ice? Genious.

Top Secret -
"Nick, I've tried everything: the embassy, the German government, the consulate. I even talked to the U.N. ambassador. It's no use, I just can't bring my wife to orgasm."

Cannibal Women in the Avocado Jungle of Death -
Margo Hunt: They're an ancient commune of feminists, so radical, so militant, so left of center they... they eat their men.
Bunny: Oh, that. Well, if I like a guy, I usually start at -

Other movies that I find funny: spaceballs, holy grail, saved, napoleon dynamite, the princess bride mean girls, one scene in matchstick men (at the pharmacy), the first 5 minutes of the Lady and the Highwayman (never watched any more than that, haha)

BASEketball and Team America are also very funny (God love Trey Parker and Matt Stone),

But i think, THE funniest (if ever-so-slightly strange) movie has got to be Rocky Horror.. also the movie with the best legs, methinks.. mmm, Tim Curry's legs.. *drools*
