There are many out there, I say call of Duty. Poll on the way!
Aces High II, as far as air combat is concerned.

They all suck. You never get to play Germany and win. Idiotic propaganda games. Hmph. They're just designed to keep the glorious image of the vastly superior and grand US army in the people's minds. Pathetic.

Castle Wolfenstien 3d, now there was a game to play for hours on end. Hidden levels, guns, and treasure to steal. I am thinking about getting the Gameboy edition of it.

I'd like to see a game where you could play as a german soldier and not worry about it about Hitler's agenda or the Aryan Agenda. Be about a soldier, called up to defend the mother land. Don't make it about pushing any agenda, just combat with missions and such. Don't be overly bland, but don't be overly upsetting with it either.

I've been playing Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory lately since I burned out on Call of Duty. It's a fun game with great maps, but I like the feel of guns in Call of Duty more. If CoD had maps and an arsenal like ET, it'd be the best first person shooter out there.
Battlefield 1942 is stupid. Don't get me wrong. The concept is great. The problem is that the guns and movement has the worst 'feel' of any game I've played. I can't hit anything in that game, and somehow people still bunny hop around and blow me away. I hate it. As such, it is the worst on your list. However, Battlefield 2 looks awesome. Maybe even awesome enough for me to try to get used to the game.
Medal of Honor was a lot of fun, but it's getting pretty old.
Call of Duty is the best game of the three named games, but I'm still going to have to vote other.
Also, while there's a thread about these games, can anyone tell me what WW2 Online and Brothers in Arms are like? Are the games worth getting?

Hearts of Iron both one and two totally rock. Some of you slow minded (aka dumb) people may not have the patience but those games are so complex and complete its absolutley amazing. Not another game out there lets you change the course of history like hoi :sniper:

But can you place five field ops outside a tunnel and have them call in artillery and air strikes constantly for twenty minutes, making it impossible for the allies standing in those tunnels to advance toward your fortress unless the teams are seriously loaded in the allies favor? Now that's REAL fun. Especially if you're an ally (I bruised my knuckle punching my screen last night. Don't try to break a CRT screen.).
Basically, the fuel dump map on Wolfenstein sucks. At least on public servers.

Hearts of Iron 1 and 2 are the best WW2 games. I would suggest anybody who likes strategy games buys the Paradox entertainment strategy six pack. It has HoI, EU2, and Victoria. They're all awesome games.
Really easily Call of Duty: United Offensive.

I've played them all, from MoH:Frontline to BF 1942. BF 1942 is good because it's expandable, the mods are by and large free to boot. MoH depends on the speed of the machine being run on, it does not have vehicular interaction like BF 1942, and one REALLY needs a broadband connection and a P4 with 128Mb of video Ram on an Nvidia card at least to make it worth while to play. Call of Duty is hyper- accurate, which is a plus and a minus when going up against six PzKw IV's from a window with a Panzerfaust it takes getting used to. Panzer General is good for people who like turn based strategy. Sudden Strike does not allow for a German victory, which Pz General does. I heard a Rumour about a game released in Germany which was an RPG, where you RP'ed "Der Fhurer" anyone know more about that? BF 1942 I would have to say gets a ++ for being upgradable and expandable for free, but Call of Duty gets a ++ for high accuracy, MoH weakens the Stg 44 badly to the point where a whole 30 rd clip only kills one guy, and a 98K requires two shots to kill, the Mp-40 is a joke, damn americans waste everything with their BARs and Stens and M1928s CS:Day of Defeat has a wide variety of weapons FG-42s, MG-34s, HJ Knives, P-08s, P-38s, SPzB-41s,Pak 41 and so forth so is good for that but the graphics stink
EDIT: Incidentally, the only one of the games I still have is BF- 1942 with Galactic Conquest, Forgotten Hope, and Silent Heroes mods
I wanna be a Soviet paratrooper! Or a Soviet ground-attack pilot! Or a Soviet rifleman! Anything Soviet!

Call of Duty isprobly the best, it lets you place as russians and british instead of just being americans single handedly winning the war. i heard in the next call of duty you might get to be german, and i'm pretty sure theres a mod for cod to let you do that now.
I've only played MOHAA, so I'm rather biased in my choices. I do look forward to owning a copy of Call of Duty in the future. Being a huge fan of WWII and the Nazis (like their image but loathe their ideology), MOHAA got me into even more intense interest in WWII. In real life, I prefer post-WWII weaponry and tactics. Since I don't have the connection nor the interest to play multiplayer-only games like BF1942, I think I'll stick to the ones with interesting and realistic campaigns.
It's funny how they never made any WWI FPS games before as 90% of the time the player will either be sitting in a trench of wet mud or be charging at a machinegun and expecting 100% death. LOL!

I'd like to see WWII in a game from the German or other Axis perspective. Almost every Cold War game allows you to play the Ivans; WWII games are not fair in their campaigns.
Sorry to be off topic, how many here has played OFP (Operation Flashpoint)? Has BF1942 surpassed it?

As long as the story keeps clear off the 'Final Solution', I think it'll even please the German censors.

Battlefield 1942: Forgotten Hope, has a Crete battle no He-111s though I have yet to see an Eben Emel map, that would be neat the FJ's finest hour, or maybe the Mussolini rescue would be a neat one to see. Anyone ever played a game called Martyr, I think its a what if the Germans won FPS?

The good (really old) classics I used to play for hours:
Aces of the Pacific
Panzer General
Steel Panthers (I&II)
Aces of the Deep
Wolfpack
Panzer Commander
Burning Steel (I&II)
Wolfenstein
Return to Castle Wolfenstein
HEARTS OF IRON, fools. You can be any country that existed from 1936-1945. And it is entirely possible to win the war as Germany...

Medal of Honor: Allied Assault.
I've played it for at least two years straight. It's so much fun. And you get to be a German soldier who actually speaks German in Multiplayer if you want! I still remember how funny the taunts in Deutsch (:)) are! From "Amerikanisch Schweine!" to "Gelbbellied bastarde!", the taunts are so funny! ;)

http://www.mobygames.com/game/windows/mortyr-2093-1944
Other than seeing that webpage, my only memory of it was from some magazine advetisement. It's a very obscure game and probably didn't live up to the whole Wolfenstein legacy. Mortyr wasn't underappreciated, it was considered a piece of dirt imposter of Wolfenstein 3D. I've done some searches and there's a Mortyr 2 in the making.

I've bought the OFP collection recently and I haven't got around to playing it due to my busy academic life. I've tried it for a while and the controls are something I'm not used to. I do praise its powerful realism of combat. Sure does live up to it's reputation.

Airborne Assault Highway to the Reich by Matrix Games lets you develop your own scenarios. You get Fallschirmjagers there so you can do scenarios like Rotterdam or Narvik (but you don't get many troop choices and you can't add new ones or change the ones that are there.)

Oh, and Stens are Brit guns.
A Soviet paratrooper game would be cool - they were among the first to develop airborne forces along with Italy but they kinda stagnated due to the purges. The Strategy&Tactics article on KANEV had a VERY good article on them. You could start out with Nomonhan, move on to Barbarossa and even experience partisan warfare and if you survive you get to drop later on in Kanev. Since the Soviets didn't often use their paratroops in large airborne ops you could get a lot of cool ground fighting in as well, maybe even the battle of Berlin (though probably you'd have to be reassigned to a tank regiment for that or something).
I do realize that people sometimes play these WWII games for the sake of escape and fascination with the greatest war known to Man.

Best WWII game of all time, Avalon Hills Squad leader series, on bard was fantastic :) never ever try to do a divioson sized offensive on a board game measured in tactical time (mine and several other gameplayes sets where used in that it only lasted 16 months)
Brother in arms: finally a WW2 shooter with brains and tactics.
Call of duty came close but then again you as an one-man army butchered the entire Wehrmacht on you own.
Medal of Honor it's an entertaining game but not even close to being realistic. What's that? Another seven hundred germans? Ok I'll get the machine gun.

I would agree. That game also has no blood effects, which makes war unreal. It was still pretty enjoyable for a FPS, or maybe I haven't been playing games for years when I first picked it up.

As far as FPS's go, Brothers In Arms has the best single-player campaign of any WWII game and Day of Defeat has the best multiplayer.
And if you like turn-based strategy, go get Silent Storm for the PC. Fun beyond words.

It was a ground-breaking game (I first played it on a 386/20!), and it's still playable. PG2 was interesting, but not as re-playable.
