Should I quit my job?

I hate it so much. I earn minimum wage, so there's no way I can do worse with a new job. I get around 20 hours a week, so again, not really much worse I can do.

I almost quit tonight. They've been cutting back on hours so we all have to close alone and they deceided to pull the other person I was working with midway through the dinner rush. Nothing was done before she left, the soups weren't done, the boards weren't washed or bleached, the hot table wasn't cleared out, the new hot table wasn't made, hell, she only got the slicer done just before she left... and as she was on her way out of the department, I get five sandwich orders and three pizzas. It was non-stop until the store closed and I was rushing around doing everything and I hate it. I don't get paid enough for this crap.

Alternately, I could keep this job until a new one comes along. That would be the responsable thing to do.

That's true.
Perhaps I should dig up some ragged clothes and take my guitar downtown and just play. I would probably get paid better than I do now.

You could always start a band and gig every other night... Or, every night, if need be.

I'm not a particularly good guitarist...

if I were to inact my just mentioned plan, people would probably be paying me to stop it.

Johnny Ramone was a particularly crappy guitarist when the Ramones started, and they were gigging almost every day.

You don't have to be a good guitarist to start a band.

If you are only making minimum you probably should look for something better.

And hey, if you can afford it, quit. Hourly employees don't owe the employer anything.

Yeah, I think as soon as I'm done my summer school class (the exam's this wed) I'm going to make a greater effort on the job hunt thing.

I'm definitely quitting when school starts. It's not worth it, I fucked up one year of school because of this job, I'm not going to make it two. My parents won't let me starve and I'm sure I coudl scrounge up a tutoring job at the local highschool or perhaps a baby sitting job...

Are you in the US? If you are, I'd suggest:

Try getting a serving job. You already have the restaurant sanitation knowledge, you already have some customer service skills, you already have the ability to multitask and deal with demanding coworkers and customers. Even if you get a serving job at the local Bob Evans, you'll make probably $7-10/hour in tips + $2/hour in your paycheck. You'll be doing nearly twice as well. And since most of it is cash, you'll have money when you need it.

(I'd suggest starting out with a diner/family restaurant if you do decide to apply. They are most likely to hire with little or no experience.)

The problem is noone in this country apreciates the band gig anymore, all schools and parties just get crappy Dj's or a boombox. But hey! Bring back the band gig and you will be a hero.

I'm in Canada, but I'm still considering that route. I don't mind interacting with customers. I hate having to clean up food all the time though.

And I would definitely take server's wages + tips over this.

You've got family to help out a bit, and you can get other work. I'd say quit now, as long as you can make tuition.

At this point, I can't make tuition, but I don't think I'll be able to do it by the end of the summer either.

I'm about $1500 short of what I need to make (I only have to get half tuition, my parents have a savings plan that covers the other half) though it would be nice to have enough to buy books and the like... and you know, food.

My family probably hates you now, as you just fave me another reason to stay over here in Japan, where live bands are still the rule. :)

i have the solution: sell drugs.

well i never said it was a good solution did i? ;)

i think a quote from the mighty led zeppelin might help put perspective on this situation, and your situation at uni:

"Yes, there are two paths you can go by,
But in the long run, there's still time to change the road you're on"

You should be a tutor. I get paid $20 an hour doing that and it's easier than working at a restaurant.

You're asking random people on an internet forum for job advice? Did it ever occurr to you that maybe - just maybe - you should look to yourself for decisions, not strangers who you communicate with via a glowing box?

So their advice isn't good?
