It's bullshit like this that makes me hate the accursed PATRIOT Act even more than I already do. F'ing ridiculous!

It's basically Zero Sense (ie Zero Tolerance) policy taken to a federal level.

I've been wanded, bomb searched, drug searched, and the only thing I've not had is a damned cavity search. The second they say, "please follow us behind this curtain", I will leave the airport and never fly again. This has happened to meh since Fourth Grade, when I tried to bring a hollow, flimsy toy knife I bought back home with me. They confiscated it and tossed it out. Mind you, I've never once had a "threatening" item on my person.. just bad luck, I suppose. I've found American Customs rather easy to deal with upon returning from an international trip, though. Entry is different, with Canada, at least. First time I went, my luggage was searched and I had to go to Customs and Immigration to get some form stamped (for no real reason that I can discern) , then another stamp, then I was let through. The second, I simply waited in a long ass line to declare my goods, and exited the airport. During the first time, I was stopped on the way to Customs, asked why I was in Canada, who I was visiting, etc..I wound up answering the questions four times, for four different people. However, I remained polite to the people, and respectful. They are, after all, only doing their job.

Also, my dad works in California, and flys back home for the weekend. He's been doing this for probably 3 or 4 years now. Not long ago, they put him on a "No Fly" list because some suspected "terrorist" shared our last name or some such. He filled out a formed, cleared up and was fine. My point is, though, that it was someone who'd been flying for years, and if he really was a threat, they'd've been screwed. I understand they've alot to sift through, but still...shouldn't they have their priorities, as well as common sense?

I'm all for airport security, but sometimes it can be a bit ridiculous.

Except that the Patriot Act doesn't give them the right to do this

It should be noted that nothing in the article has anything to do with the Patriot Act, but don't let that stop anyone from getting their whine on.. ;)

I know I know... but it's grows out of the same mindset of treating citizens like criminals. I hate it...and I'm a (semi)conservative!!!

Maybe its best when people call it "P.A.T.R.I.O.T." Act rather than "Patriot".
The former stands for "Providing Appropriate Tools Required To Intercept and Obstruct Terrorism" the second invokes images of somehow being un-American if you don't like it (or at least subconsciously makes that connection). That is of course intended.
So it would probably be best if you name it as the construct that it is rather than using an every-day word for it.
