How was your day?

Mine was just plain boring...
Started work at 7, but as we are in between projects I did absolutely nothing till 3.30. Well, yes, ok, I did have 5 cups of tea in that time and I posted a little here.
I did get a package with the mail today, but if I told you what was inside, I might find myself forumbanned, and then what would I do with my weekend? :)

So, how was your day?

started out bad - woke up late, missed the train to go down to Uni cos i couldn't find my uni ID card (they don't let you sit exams without it), so i had to drive the 2 1/2 hours down there, and go sit the 3 hour exam within 20 minutes of parking. and i probably failed too. plus my damn hayfever played up in the exam hall which put me off like hell.
next up was the drive back home in rush hour, after a brief visit to my grandma on the way through
shit drive back, did some graphics work, had a delicious tea, and have just watched Terminator 3 again. and now its now.

thus ends my day.

I woke up, I NS'ed for a while, I avoided talking to someone, a friend came over, then left, came back later, left again, then I watched tennis for a while which was pretty boring, then I had a drink, then I played Mercenaries, then I lost and stopped playing, then something else happened, then I ate some cheese, and now I'm NS'ing again. And eating more cheese.

I woke up, took care of my overdue issues (NS ones not mental or emotional ones; I'd need more than a day for those), went to my volunteer job at the library where I spent four hours putting three folded pieces together, stuffing them into envelopes, and putting sticker labels on the envelopes, all the while assured that I was in hell, went home at noon, NSed for an hour or so, listened to some music, ate dinner, and now I'm NSing again...

Woke up, went to school, probably failed my first Language Arts final, bribed my second language arts teacher to pass me, learned about the slave trade for the 27th time in my life, bitched about the humidity being like 100%, went on NS, bitched about some stuff there, played Halo, and soon gonna lift some weights...so yeah...

Thats my day, pretty crappy if ya ask me

Mine is just starting. I'm supposed to be going away for the Queen's Birthday long weekend but seeing as my lift is current 28 minutes late :(, I've found a few minutes to check up on my region - quite exciting at the moment - our UN Delegate is on holidays but somehow in the last few days he's managed to eject a nation and then withdraw from the UN! I'm convinced it's a hack.

Today was my last day of class for the 2004-2005 school year. I have my English exam on Monday, my chemistry exam on Wedesday, and my Canadian history exam on Thursday. After that, it's smooooth sailing for the rest of the summer.

So I'm doin' great, thanks.

Does it help if I say that I got paid for sitting in a bar drinking beer and watching bands?

I finally finished my first year studies of eyeglass dispensing! Soon I'll be licensed in October... Muhahaha! Then continue this September with contact lens studies and get my dual license following year. I'm just crazy with power!

I cunningly avoided mentioning that it also involves humping several hundreds of pounds of equipment up and down staircases, setting everything up for the bands, doing sound for them, clearing up after them, packing away your own equipment and carting it away again. For this you are paid a paltry amount which once you factor in the fact that you are providing your own equipment and have no benefits like sick pay or the like, comes to somewhat less than the hourly rate of the minimum wage. I thought that might make it seem like a slightly less enticing career. Was it not Marx himself who said 'I worked myself up from nothing to a state of extreme poverty'?

hmm...that seems like too much hard work

I'll stick to being a student for now, I think

Just on the very, very rare chance...you didn't do anything for the Velvet Revolver/Biffy Clyro gig the other night in the Odyssee did you?

Nah: the only kind of work I could get with the big venues would be just humping boxes, and I don't really care for that kind of thing. When it comes down to it if I just wanted to hump boxes I could get steady work in a warehouse and not have to do load-ins and load-outs at stupid times of the day and night. I have done some of that kind of local crew work, and its okay, but just a way to get some money in your pocket.*

* Note: actually chasing up the people to get the money off once they have got the money through from the promoter, often weeks or months later, can take more effort than the basic physical labour that you are nominally getting paid for.

Oh ok, I was just wondering because Biffy definitely do not suit somewhere like the Odyssee, I was just wondering if you knew how a band suited to small gigs (last they played in Belfast was the Spring and Airbrake, and before that Auntie Annies I think) would adapt to a larger venue, how well the sound would translate

Good. Didn't have much to do at work, so I took a long lunch, browsed some sites and did a bit of writing. Then I watched a very excellent movie: Palindromes. Has anyone else seen it?

No idea at all - the biggest gig I've ever been to was the Pogues at the Kings Hall circa 1988. Large cavernous aircraft hanger-like buidlings are inimical to the proper experience of rock and roll. Having said that, the technology has moved on somewhat since then, and the flown arrays that they use in the Odyssey probably do a reasonable job.

Well, it was my older sister's high school graduation. In the 100s at first for temp., then lightening, near rain, this very annoying kid behind me that just wouldn't shut up(I was this close to just strangling him when he started booing people, including my sister.) Otherwise, good day. Got to swim.

Pretty good.

A good nights rest, for a change (uncommon on Friday nights).
Up at 9:30, shower fress and on the train. The train wasn't as crowded as normal for whatever reason.
Reading a good book so went past my stop, but only one station, and had lots of time to come back.
3 kids ESL classes - 1 preschool aged, 1 1st/2nd grade, and 1 2nd/3rd grade.
The kids on Saturday are good, and we had some fun classes.
Afterwards, 3 small groups of adult ESL students. Today was all mid-level; students.
A relaxing train ride back in to town.
Now posting from my favorite barstool. Soon to be meeting friends at another little bar/restaurant with great food.
