I've heard the argument given by the authorities a number of times, if the children couldn't work, the families would starve. But, honestly, there has to be another solution than this???

Well, I certainly don't agree with this practice, BUT...
...comparing these kids, who do basic office and gopher work, to CHILD SOLDIERS???

I don't rightfully know why this article upset me so. I know that many children in India are forced to work to support their families, and most of them under far worse conditions and for less pay than these little "officers". After all, they at least have the chance to attend school, which most of the working children cannot.
And yet I find it apalling that the state, the government actually employs children. It's one thing for evil capitalists and irresponsible companies to employ children, but in my eyes the government and the state should at least make an effort to set an example for society.

Yeah it sucks for those kids. They can't pick up the pay bonus indian police get for growing mustaches :(

When I see a story like this, and I hear teens complaining about how mom and dad won't buy them an iPod or 'only' bought them a used car, I don't know whether to laugh or cry.
