They're both astoundingly genius that I couldn't pick between the two.

some of family guys one liners are beyond reproach, but Futurama just... well, I couldn't be specific. it just rocks on the whole, as does Family guy.

Im saying Family Guy because it makes me laugh more, simple as that.

I still laugh when I watch the first scene of the first episode of the new season, naming off all the cancelled shows, classic..

Futurama's good. I love the more serious episodes. My favorite is the last where Fry trades hands with the Robot Devil.
Family Guy is just deliciously random. A racoon leaping out of Lois' blouse to maul Peter. That's hilarious.
Family Guy also has this way of pushing a joke so long it just gets funnier. Like when Peter's running and he hurts his shin. He must spend over a minuet just sitting on the ground holding his leg. Or when he's suddenly fighting that giant chicken.
GENIOUS!

I like Family Guy better. It is nonsensical and is constantly making fun of itself. Futurama is good (Bender) but it seems like a Simpsons-in-Space.

EDIT: Simpsons is a bit tried and true. Family Guy, however, isn't constrained by the fourth wall or even the constraints of reality.

Futurama for these reasons:
"She's built like a steakhouse, but she handled like a bistro!"-Zapp Brannigan
"You win again, gravity!"-Zapp Brannigan
"*singing* LEELA! L-E-E-L-A! LEELA!"-Zapp Brannigan
"I find the most erotic part of a woman to be the boobies"-Once again, Zapp Brannigan!
and finally:
"Couldn't you say that a little more sexfully?"-Zapp Brannigan

Futurama, in the end, is a better show overall. However, no one can argue with the comic genius of Family Guy. My vote goes to Zapp Brannigan and Kif: "Ohhhmmph..."

Ooooh good one. Stewie's funny, but babies are always good for a laugh. It is hard to ignore the unadulterated comedic genius of Bender Bending Rodriguez. For example: he's smoking, drinking, holding a gun, cursing, stealing, and getting away with it - all within two minutes.

If you must ask this question then you are a confused, pitiable person. If judging by how funny one is, the answer is hand's down Family Guy. It is just hilarious, never ever predictable, rarely uses the same jokes over and over(except when that makes it even funnier), and is the only show I know of to do the hilarous cuts to other stuff after appropriate remarks during converstions.

Futurama is enjoyable to watch, but like the Simpsons, I find it too predictable, not funny enough and sometimes even boring(a word that anyone who used around Family Guy I would pound repeatedly with an Iron stick) I think the major reason for that is that the roles are too well defined in the Simpsons and Futurama, though I conciede that Family Guy has roles too, but they are shown with more ingenuity and flexibilty than the other two.

Family guy rocks, and I am so freaking glad its back on the air. Maybe Fox finally found a new show to play that doesn't... oh whats the word... suck and crash n' bomb horribly? After all the bad decisions, Family guy is like a lifesaving breath of fresh air for a drowning swimmer... I have no Idea what I'm typing about anymore, but I leave you with this...

Actually, this is only partially true. In fact, the DVD sales of Futurama have been through the roof lately. So much so, that based upon the sales of this next DVD release (a four episode DVD, one from each season(I forgot the name, something about manic robots)), there will be straight-to-DVD Futurama movies. And, while this is wide-spread speculation, based upon the movie sales, FUTURAMA WILL BE BROUGHT BACK TO TV!!!!!!

No doubt, Family Guy has excellent one-liners. Excellent! The problem is that one-liners can only entertain so much. Futurama has one-liners as well, but it is the story that draws attention.

People say, "my favorite episode of family guy was when the chicken attacked him." that is just one small section of the episode.

People say, "my favorite episode of futurama was when Bender got on all my circuits, became a bad example for children, had children steal from him, then joined an anti-bender on television group!" That is the episode.

I, personally, don't have a favorite episode of futurama. I CAN'T DECIDE! Every episode is genious. Pure Genious. But thats what you get when most of the writers have advanced math and science degrees, and several went to harvard for comedy.

Does anyone agree that the new ep's of F.G. suck compared to the old ones? I mean, they brought back the chicken and the greased up deaf guy in the first episode, and they didn't make sense. While I will say that F.G. is generally random, it wasn't like the chicken came out of nowhere the first time. It gave him a bad coupon. Here the chicken just came back. FOR NO REASON OTHER THAN TO MAKE PEOPLE SAY "OH! THERE'S THE CHICKEN!!!!! THAT WAS MY FAVORITE EPISODE!!!!!! YAY!!!! THEY ARE THINKING OF ME!!!!!" I am sorry, but F.G. has lost its edge. I think its cause he (Seth McFarlen) was out of the game for too long. Sad, but true. They are just BORING now.

The 4 minute chicken fight was just pefectly random and outrageous, how could you not love it? I have to agree that the story isn't always the best, you can't beat the completely unpredictable hilarious jokes. Simpsons on the other hand, has been sadly going downhill for years. I don't even watch the new episodes anymore.

Favorite lines from Family Guy that I can think of:

"Christians don't believe in gravity"

"Hey! You know asians arn't allowed in here!"

"They came out of the TREES man, they were everywhere!" "You really had my back out there man" "Here's to Snap!"

when I was younger, I loved family guy. It was just so odd and random. You couldn't have found a more hard-core fan. I have grown up a little, and grown out of Family guy a lot. I own the third season of Family Guy. I used to watch it to go to sleep every night for nearly a whole year. I had the commentaries memorized, along with the episodes. Now I own the last three seasons of futurama (going to get the first one soon). And yes I have ALL the commentaries nearly memorized even though I got my first on only 6 months ago.

Also, Seth McFarlene was TOO BUSY to sit down and make commentaries for each episode. Cocky son-of-a-%!@#$. Every episode of Futurama has commentaries, and they actually make the experience of owning the DVD's worth the money. I appreciate Futurama so much more now that I own them. Family guy is good, but you don't even need to pay attention. Futurama you have to watch, and the stories have meaning. Overall, Futurama is the better show. Family guy just has good one-liners. (I can't watch my F.G. dvd anymore. I actually get angry bc the episodes suck in comparison)

There is a big difference between funny and comedic genius. Genius implies that the joke is well thought out, expertly carried out, and leaves a lasting impression. Family Guy is expertly carried out, and leaves a lasting impression, but is not thought out at all.

And, while I agree that Simpson WAS going down hill. This last season was actually very very good. I applaud M. Groening for this last season. He really pulled it out. Bravo!

I also want to make another point. People keep saying that family guy makes fun of itself, like futurama doesn't. Futurama does more often than family guy, and it actually makes fun of itself. I cant really think of a time when family guy made fun of itself. Here's my example:

The Planet Express Ship is pulled under the ocean. Through a long series of events, the characters develop a way to avoid the pressure and lack of breathable oxygen. Zoidberg, which is a sort of lobster, finds a house (a large shell) that he decides to live in. While gone. his house burns down (underwater). These are the lines of this section:

Zoidberg : My house! It's burned down!!! (crys)
Hermes : That just raises questions!
Bender : (goes and picks up his cigar) Oh! that's where I left my cigar (puffs)
Hermes : THAT just raises MORE questions!!!!

The writers needed zoidberg to return to the surface, so they made a joke about his house burning down. This was followed by a joke saying that the plot twist didn't make sense. This was followed by a joke that explained how the plot "made sense." Followed by a joke which points out that the explaination made even LESS sense. Genius. Harvard Comedy Genius.

FAMILY GUY ALL OF THE WAY the people of my nation are required to watch one episode a day and also they are required to burn anything related to futurama because it is a poor excuse for comedy :sniper:

sooooo hard to choose... i like family guy more but... futurama has my favorite line

your lyrics lack subtlety, you can't just have your characters come out and say how they feel, that makes me angry! - robot devil

well since i like family guy more, i assume i voted for family guy

I'd have to go with Family Guy. Futurama is alright, with Bender and all, but F.G. has Stewie. He's the absolute funniest character on the show. Any animated show with an evil baby genius who tries to take over the world is no. 1 in my book.

"Your breaking my heart!!!"

this choice is way too hard to make. However i felt just cos Futurama is probably the underdog (and i was right) i will vote for futurama.

And also, the moment Blernball was first introduced on Futurama had me rolling on the floor with laughter.

However family guy gets the best random visual humour ("Hello Mr Robins, can I have your autograph?" "TONY ROBBINS HUNGRY!!!")

While i like Family Guy mainly because it's set in Rhode Island and Futurerama because i was a Sci Fi fan in my youth (therefore I get the jokes), I still believe the Simpsons still rules the genre.

How can you argue with a cast like this?

Man......Family Guy may be funny.

But Futurama is a stroke of genius. I really and truly think that Futurama would be the one to go for in this situation. Family Guy has that randomness buy Futurama has......that special Slurm marinated something.

Which of these shows is better? I can't decide. So sound off and tell me why your choice is right, and/or post your favorite line.

Family Guy sucks: 1) The show is sexist 2) It's a rip off of The Simpsons 3) It's bigotory 4) It makes father's looks like idiots 5) It's racist

So in conclusion, Futurama is better.

hahah no. I watch The Simpsons; that's a good show and is educational at times(not really but yea), plus its funny and its a classic.

Family Guy would be an okay show if they didn't make fun of races, religions or other states/countries every 10 seconds! Its like a cult of hatred.

Not really, it's more like it's just making fun of this pc culture we live in at the moment. I don't think the creators actually have serious racial prejudices, they just don't like the fact that most people are too afraid of hurting people's feelings.

Yea, but its in EVERY episode, there is always something, and if they wanted to prove a point, thats not the way to do it.

You can't really call someone a racist if they lampoon every race equally... besides, it's the funny way to prove a point. Nobody likes a cartoon that preaches at you, especially not when you can TELL it's preaching at you.

Okay, so you think that its necessary for them to put racist or sexist terms in every episode? And honestly who would be like 'ohh i see, they're trying to prove a point by using racism and sexism, wow now that's smart' yeaa no one would do that. If i took a survey of how many people out of 100 who actually think about that show and its meaning, i'm sure i'd find less than half. Its not necessary to use it in every episode.

They aren't in every episode, and I feel it's acceptable for them to use them whenever they want, as they don't advocate any sort of hate.... they're just picking at something that can be funny. If we made everything inoffensive, nothing would be funny.

Honestly, if you think family guy advocates nazism, racism, sexism.... you're really missing the mark. They're making fun of all these people. it's like the people who hated Alf Garnett (very old show, black and white, even) because he was racist, sexist, and all that... when in reality, the entire show was to show how ridiculous he was. or Springtime for Hitler in "the producers", for being about Hitler and showing how he wasn't a bad guy after all, when the entire movie was about "making the worst play ever written".

Ohh so it’s funny to you eh? Well it wouldn't be funny if you lived back in the 1930s with the Slavery and all that or in the 1960s with the Civil Rights movement, or how about when the women fought for their freedom and ability to vote, suffrage is what we got, do you find that funny? I guess so. So if you find it so funny, what was the point of doing all that, just to make more work for ourselves? I don't think so, it was to prove a valid point and years later they make fun of the people who did that, like 'haha look at the sexist and racist remarks haha.' Well for some people its just not funny and honestly it shouldn't be, those people went through a lot to get us where we are today, have women working instead of staying home, giving women the right to vote, living in a world where African American and Caucasian people can live together, for the most part, peacefully, all on the same street. Did you know that just about 4 or 5 years ago North Carolina just took the confederate flag down, that says a lot about how our culture is, and allowing racism and sexism is just ruining it more. Do you think its right that sexism is a REAL issue and it does happen, does that make you feel better that women are getting mistreated and discriminated against while you're laughing about how funny it is? Or how about the African American who did nothing yet the police still beat him to the ground like he is a known felon when all he did was buy something at a store, Does it make you feel better that in the south they STILL have separate bathrooms that say Colored and Whites? Does it make you feel better that you're laughing at something that is really happening? Just because it’s not happening to you doesn't mean it’s not real. It is very real and it is very sad. I don't think you realize it until you get discriminated against or until someone close to you is in an abusive relationship because let me tell you, sexist remarks is how its starts off and then the physical abuse comes, so I guess you're laughing at that too. Well I guess you just don't get it and I can't really do anything to change your mind, but when something happens to someone you love, then maybe you'll understand and maybe you'll care.

At first, I hated Family Guy. I thought it was the most boring show in the face of the planet. The first time i watched the show, it was in the middle of the Peter scrapes his knee clip, and i had NOOOOOOOOOOOO idea what he was doing (his breathing kind of scared me) But after constatnt nagging from my brother, i kept watching it, and OMG ITS SO FUNNY ONCE YOU GET TO KNOW THE CHARACTERS!

Futurama I always thought was funny, until I started watching it again last year after a 2 year absence. Yes, they have funny moments, but it got boring. Plus I'm mad that the lobster isn't given enough jokes (he need his own show....Futurama's for Bender)

So which is the best show.....THE SIMPSONS! I've been watching the episodes since i was young, and I still think their funny! I've seen almost every episode, and its still the funniest thing ever!

But since i can't vote for The Simpsons  I voted for FG

Ok first off The Simpsons makes fun of religions and culture all the time. Ie When Apu tries to get his wife pregnant and uses fertility drugs and ends up having 8 kids. Or when the Simpsons get out of church and they're really hungry and Bart asks if they can become Catholic so they can get communion wafers and Marge says "no way three kids is enough thank you". I admit that Family Guy is a lot more crude and harsh but there still is stuff like it in the Simpsons.

Back to the original thread I voted for F.G. I just love the complete randomness of the show and how they don't adhear to the rules of reality or network censorship. F.G. is like the Simpsons except that the writers have been allowed to put in all the stuff thats a little to riske for the Simpsons.

Some favourite moments:
1)Meg is trying on jeans on comes out of the dressing room facing away from the camera,
Meg: "Ok Mom how do look?"
Random store clerk takes one look at her starts screaming her head off in pure terror, grabs a gasoline canister inside one the clothes racks pours it on herself, lights herself on fire still screaming bloody murder and jumps out the nearest window.
2)Grocery store clerk comes up to Chris and checks to see if he's stealing something. Realizes Chris isn't stealing anything ...
Clerk: "Oh your not stealing hams. Your just a fat kid. Aren't you fatty. You're just a fatty, fat, fat kid aren't you fatty. Hey, here's a chocolate bar fatty"
3) Peter feeling his life is unfufilling with his job has turned to Lois for support
Lois: "Oh don't worry Peter lots of people had menial jobs before they became famous. Albert Einstein used to work at a Patent Office"
Cuts to scene with A.E. behind this desk and a guy walks in.
Guy: "Hi, I'd like to patent my idea here."
A.E.: "Oh really, what is it?"
Guy: "I call it Smith's Theory of Relativity"
A.E.: "Hmm interesting. Hey look at this" (points to papers)
Guy: "Where?" (leans over counter to get better look)
A.E. slams the gate (for when the office closes down) down on the guys head repeatedly knocking him unconscious. Takes the papers and runs off.

Its a great show although Futurama is a good too. I don't know why some people get so bitter about something that can make people laugh. I think they are both great and I enjoy them both immensly but I have to give the nod to F.G. NOTE: Futurama was voted on 102.1 The Edge in Toronto, Canada to be the best show to watch while experiencing 4:20 :D. F.G. was fourth.

Ohh i never said there was nothing in The Simpsons, of course there is, but its more sutle and i know its not in every episode, considering i've seen every one of them.
