Good vs. Evil : Bipartisan system

ok, I'm an american, but unaffiliated with either party.

But what I don't get is the EXTREME bickering between the two parties.

Reps regard Dems as the ultimate evil incarnate AND
Dems regard Reps as the ultimate evil incarnate

you ask someone to describe the other party and invariably they will put it down somehow. You can't get a strictly factual representation of either party.

It is NUTS!

We are all people and hold a great deal in common, and yet we are intent on dividing ourselves and finding little things over which to argue/fight.
Some of the arguements are seriously inane and people will pick out little tiny flaws in eachother's statements and blow it way out seeking to destroy their opponent.

I have yet to see a debate. Only name calling and mudslinging.

Is it just me? Am I the only one who sees this?

What do you all think?

I really don't know which one to pick. While I think that people should be more civil and talk more, I also disagree with most of the republican ideas.

But yes, a lot of debates do dissolve into pathetic personal attacks. Although sometimes it can be fun. Redneck! :p

What's funny is that the differences are so subtle, people outside the debate (ie outside the US) can often not see the difference between the two sides. I think it is a case of amplifying small differences out of all proportion, to maintain the conflict. There is no real clash of rival ideas going on.

Indeed, I'm a libertarian, and both sides tend to be heavily totalitarian in operation. Just different on WHAT they want dominion over.... Otherwise the DNC and GOP look exactly alike.

They both love "strong" and "Centralized" government.
They both love tons of bureucracy.
They both love to give out handouts.

Indeed, I have been coming across the idea that the vitality of Western democracy is in decline. There are no longer any differences of philosophy to address, all policy debate seems to be over extent rather than of kind.

Perhaps the consensus that has been reached is appropriate for the present moment, not sure what will happen when times change, though. We could just end up with a new dogma.

Well I think we can all agree that I'm right and everyone else is wrong,

Meh, Democrats and Republicans are both restrictive of either your economic or social freedoms. So basically, which part of your life would you like the government to control?

Break free from the 2-party tyranny

I agree, we need more parties that actually have a say in things. You cannot cover all possible opinions with two parties.

I think election might even run smoother with more parties, there would probably be less back stabbing and such with more competition.
