Black. If I drink it, that is. Which I rarely do. But I should. Cause I enjoy it when I do. Usually. The quality has to be decent. I like French Roast. But only sometimes. :)

I've found that freshly ground Starbucks Gold Coast blend is the best. With cream and sugar.
Not bitter like most of the Starbucks coffees, and not thin or odd tasting like some of their others. Dark, smooth, and strong.

I have an espresso machine. I grind my own beans. I've been known to get my sumatra/kenyan blend custom roasted.
I drink a doppio con panna (+ irish whisky... an Italian Irish Coffee?) before retiring.
If I didn't drink at least 32oz of resturaunt blend at the office, I wasn't there.
I was known at the Spokane coffee establishments for ordering double-quads.

I can't believe that more people prefer to drink their coffee black. That's just bizarre to me. I'm wondering what I should do for these people if I invite them over to my house for hot chocolate. I'm thinking I need to keep Hershey's unsweetened cocoa on hand, to which I would simply add boiling water. I mean, if you prefer your coffee this way (i.e., bitter), why not your hot chocolate as well? If all I'm looking for is the caffeine, I'll just take a No-Doze pill, thank you very much. But if I choose to drink a cup of coffee instead, it must be sweet and it must be creamy!!! Otherwise, I'm not going to bother with it. Same goes for tea, which I prefer over coffee any day of the week, by the way.

Most decent coffee shops (no not a starbucks) will sell it.

Hawaiian Kona blends are very good too.

You pour cream on apple pies??? I don't really like apple pie myself, but I've never seen it eaten this way. But yeah, cream is much thicker than milk and comes either sweetened or unsweetened. I definitely prefer cream in my coffee - it would take a ton of milk to lighten coffee enough for my taste.

So why do you like your coffee black? I mean, do you actually like the taste of bitter coffee? Or was that the way you started drinking it when you were young because you thought it made you look cool or more grown-up - kind of the same reason kids start smoking cigarettes, even though they taste like crap? Just curious...because black coffee tastes like crap to me.

I just enjoy the taste, bitter or no. I rarely do drink coffee in any case, but when I do, I like the semi-acidic/kinda bitter aftertaste it leaves. I never drank it as a kid, and no one in my family really ever did, at home at least.
Strong French, Italian, Jamaican, Hawaiian roasts? Black.
"Morning Blend" and lighter roasts? Very light and very sweet.

If it's good coffee, black, brewed fairly strong, but not overpowering. If it's crap coffee, (I worked in a nice coffee bar, where we were entitled to drink what we liked, so most coffee now seems to be crap), brew it motor oil thick and pour on the cream and sugar.
I mean, do you actually like the taste of bitter coffee?
Good coffee isn't bitter. It's coffee that is poorly roasted, poorly brewed or burnt that tastes bitter. Well-roasted, well-brewed, strong coffee is meant to be consumed black. Cream and sugar are good for covering up the taste of coffee, hence why I use it for the light and tasteless stuff most places pass of as coffee.

All you Euros go out and find a good Italian Espresso bar and ask for a Doppio.
If it is bitter (and/or has a lousy crema), throw it at the barista, swear at him/her in Italian and walk out.

Does the same go for cocoa? I mean, would you ever just stir unsweetened cocoa into pour boiling water and even pretend that it tastes good, or is this just something people do with coffee for some bizarre reason that is completely beyond me?

Usually Iced Mocha, heavy on the espresso, light on the mocha. Or speedballs (espresso shots in a good black coffee, dash of equal maybe), or espresso.
Also a fav... dark chocolate covered coffee beans! I could eat bags of those! (And then bounce off the walls for a day! :p :D )

I had a blend they called "Kodiak" a couple of years ago, but havent seen it since. It was fairly bitter, like the pierced punk that served it. But I grew to like them both.

Um, no. But I wouldn't put cocoa in water for any reason.
Cocoa and coffee are beans. They have different flavors. People drink black unsweetened tea, a flavor far more comparable to coffee than cocoa.
Really, I support your right to put whatever you want in your coffee, but your complete inability to understand that other people have different tastes and something that doesn't taste good to you might actually taste good to them, only makes you sound pedestrian, unsophisticated and silly.
