Game has statist bias.

Stateless Zone

I tried to set up a stateless entity, but the software apparently doesn't recognize such a thing. Even in a stateless society, the auto-generated description assumes there exists a corrupt government.

I quit. You may delete "Stateless Zone." This game is apparently a training ground for authoritarianism. Not that I'm surprised at all. :headbang:

Hah, yeah. Who'd have thought a game called "NationStates" would force you to create a Nation. :p

of course it has "statist bias" its a game about being the government of a state.

i thought "statist bias" would have been pretty expected.

How could the game properly simulate a stateless society? Do you want to get a message saying "YOU'RE NOT THE BOSS OF ME!" whenever you make an issue decision?

The United Nations in real life has the same problem.

If you're not a nation state, you're on the list to be screwed.

Hey, that's how the system works!

3) Sit back and look at what you haven't created.

Isnt meboy colloquial for "my boy"? I certainly heard it in that context from irishmen, them often substituting me for my. Thus, considering that Sdaeriji is female, it should have been me girl or megirl.
Funny, now that i explain it, eh?

OMG! It's almost as if the player is supposed to control the country. Did you want a non-interactive game? Next we'll be finding out that it's based on political satire, rather than a place for n00bs to tell the general forum that they don't like playing.

You do realize that this game is about governing a nation, right? And you understand that this would render a nation with no government meaningless, since the whole point of the game is to make government decision? Just asking

Non-state entities never exist in isolation from a nation.

You should have created a nation of the sort which could be expected to give rise to the desired non-state entity, and role-played that.

But, omfg, that would have required evaluating constraints imposed by game mechanics.

In defense of the original posters..I must say that this game treats its simulated citizens like utter morons..basically at the mercy to react the same way to whatever the state does. The simulated citizens don't have a brain to improve their own lives..so that is where I see that statist bias.

How can you give people free will in a primitive Java game?

(Ugh. I can't give the answer I want to give because no matter how hard I try to phrase it, I end up revealing game mechanics.)

It boils down to, the condition of the people is determined by the states of a group of variables, and they can only 'react' in a way for which there is a variable and an equation. So a tax increase will result in less money and perhaps a better public service, but never the spontaneous formation of a new pressure group.

It's an unsatisfactory answer, but I am too fearful for my nation's 4.1bn people to elaborate. :(

You can see though, that giving a nation's people a realistic unpredictability would be too difficult. The Statist Bias is imposed by the medium, the fact that this game has to be text-based and run on a browser.

And in defense of us mocking him, this game doesn't pretend to be anything else. It quite clearly is supposed to be a satirical, over-exaggerated version of running a nation. To complain about NS not being realistic enough for your tastes is a little ridiculous.

It is quite easily pronounced in Russian, probably any slavic tongue, so long as the S is pronounced as a Z.

I agree with the original poster's premise. I'm not trying to create an anarchy, but I thought a limited-government economical powerhouse would be fun to run. Every time I choose the small-government, non-interfering options, my economy somehow gets worse. WTF? I thought not over-regulating people's lives was supposed to help the economy.

Edit: note that I'm using "statist" in the sense of state-run, state-provided, state-centric solutions.
