Which news person do you like and trust most? It can be a TV, print, or radio news personality. Please no fake news people like Jon Stewart.

Mine is Lou Dobbs from CNN.

Jon Stewart, even excluding the Daily Show (which, sadly, often enough does a better job of presenting the new that any of the networks) his bitchslapping of Crossfire made him a folk hero. He's right, news media is broken, badly.

Other than that, Thomas L. Friedman for teaching me that reaching a peaceful understanding the current form of Islam is impossible.

Has to be Bill O' Reilly. He tears down the reputation of anyone and everyone that he comes across who doesn't agree with him. The Factor is where you go to find if you are a man among men whose moral clarity and vision stand unsurpassed or a maggot feeding upon the flesh of the dying. You will be told within the first minute of the program and you cannot challenge, you must accept it and make necessary changes or face certain destruction like what happened to Jeremy Glick.

Has to be Bill O' Reilly.

I believe the thread excluded fake news people.

Bill O'Reilly is just like Jay Leno and Jon Stewart except he's not funny. Well, he's just like Jay Leno.

Just listen to them.

Jay Leno: Did you hear this? Did you read about this? "Some silly sounding headline." That's true. "Stupid joke that's not true or very funny."
Bill O'Reilly: Now according to "some random newspaper and headline." Now that's true. "Stupid commentary that's not the slightest bit true or funny."

Exact same format. He's a talkshow host. Even Jay Leno leaves his interviews more or less intact, O'Rielly edits them to take answers out of context and make it sound like the interviewees were saying things that they weren't really saying.

ON commercial news I'd say Sandra Sully who last year was voted the hottest woman on Australian television, despite being in her 40's and having 2 kids.

As for internet news I'd like to nominate myself for all the important news threads I start in this forum. ;)

Hu Edwards. That Welsh twang... gotta love it.

Trevor McDonald and Moira Stewart are also cool. Trevor would be much better if he went to the BBC.

But getting him to turn from/to the dark side seems to be difficult.

Although, in the now outdated words of Bill Bailey, you never see one from the west country.

outdated quote: "I'm in Ramallahr.... and Yasser, he won't come out his compound -COME OUT YASSER! -he won't come out!

COME OUT YASSER, I'VE GOT TRIFLE, YOUR FAVOURITE!"

It's timeless.

For the U.S.: Jim Lehrer. He's boring but he's very trustworthy.

For Australia: hmm Lee Lin Chin is always fun to watch, other than that, Deborah Cunningham, even though she was recently fired.

Special mention must go to the business news guy on ABC, who somehow manages to make stocks and interest rates amusing and entertaining.

I love Sandra! She's so dignified and she's got a fabbo voice. Did you hear the blooper tape of Naomi Robson (Today Tonight Channel 7) that Chris Taylor and Craig Reucastle were playing on TripleJ? She's bitching about the auto-cue guy and she drops the F-bomb about 9 times. It made me feel good about not being a channel 7 viewer!

I also really like Anton Enis on SBS - he's really good at politely ripping into politicians during interviews. His last interview with Vanstone was brilliant.

And he's a bit of a spunk, too. :p

John Humphries, the Today Programme, Radio 4.
Radio 4 is *the* place to go for *real* news, that is not part of the Maxwell agenda. It has the added cool bonus that British Nuclear (I seem to have forgotten how to spell that!!) submarine commander listen to the Today show in the morning to check that the world hasn't ended! No, really, it's true!

Here's another vote for Lou. :) Too bad his show now comes on at an ungodly early hour (for me).

Jim Leher is good, as well.

The Japanese newscasts (including NHK) are usually awful - more gossip than anything else. And even worse in English. (Simultaneous translation by non-native speakers with a relatively poor grasp of English is not the way to go.)

Brit Hume and his regular guests.. they basically parrot the insights of others, mainly columnists, but they add their own opinions and Brit Hume moderates well.

I like O'Reilly for bringing up buried news stories, and he tends to land high-profile interviews.

I like Shepard Smith and Don Imus in the morning.. and sometimes Scarborough and Pat Buchanan when he guest-hosts.

Anna Jones off BBC News 24. She's the best of the lot. Or that new girl they've got. She was a bit nervous first day, but she's very pretty. Sadly, I have pictures of neither. I did find one of Jones, but it didn't do her justice.

Hah, yeah. The female lawyers on that show operate on the "whoever talks the loudest must be correct" principle, and interrupt more than I can take.

Brit Hume is A-#1, though.

Hmm, I despise most of the Fox News team, but Bill O'Reilly is a unique case. Most times he's an arrogant doofus, but occasionally he'll hit the mark and make a really good point, or call an interviewee on something that nobody else would mention (although for most right wing guests he is frankly simpering), he also sometimes finds a middleground that I can agree with. On those occasions I respect him, on others I do not.

I almost always agree with his talking points. His takedowns of the elite media (network news, The New York Times etc.) are great. He doesn't let his guests get away with not answering his questions or giving half-answers. He looks out for the folks because most news agencies won't.
