Inspired by my own Hilary for POTUS thread, I was wondering how many of you would support Dr Martin Luther King for the office of President, assuming he hadn't been killed.

Again I ask that only elegable Americans vote. Anyone is free to post, but in the intrests of a fair poll, please don't vote and please vote only once.

It will be intresting to see if an African-American has a better chance than a woman.

He is, bugger. I made a mistake with the previous poll and forgot to mention this one was hyptothetical when I re-posted it... hold up.

Meh, I'd vote for Zombie MLK anyways.

What has he ever done for the country except raise a son that stole money from his group to pay for his booze, his hookers, and other things of the like?

Do you know anyone who you'd actual want to run for PM? I'm embaressed by every last Aussie I know, the last thing I want is one of them running for office.

Yeah, me. I never disagree with myself and I seem to follow my own policies to the letter.

If MLK was a Black Jew Lesbian with Lepersey that worked the streets as a 14 year old and contracted HIV from Willy Nelson then id vote for him otherwise nah...

Kinda disturbing how many people voted "Extremely unlikely."

Dedication to one cause doesn't make you a good manager or administrator. I wouldn't say absolutely not, but it'd be a hard sell.

Maybe they thought it was his chance of getting elected.

I voted extremely unlikely. My family came to the United States in 1970. The whole 60s US civil rights movement is as important to me as the Prague Spring is to you.

It would depend on the other candidate, of course, but I'd be surprised if there would be much in MLK's platform I'd want in a Presidential Candidate.

Though I recognize and honor what MLK did for black civil rights, I would never have even remotely considered voting for him for POTUS.

I'm not a big fan of idealists at all... they strike me as naïve and annoying.

I cannit vote for a person based soley on one issue.

Well, we never got to see his other ideas on issues. After all, while he promoted Black civil rights, whose to say he didn't feel that all children should be forced to listen to Michael Jackson music every second of the day while dancing the hokey pokey and juggling pickles?

My point is, he only opined on one issue, and one that is not even relevant to today.

not really. In todays political climate he probably wouldnt stand a chance. Things are much different today than in his days. He did his American duty. His family and Americans alike should be proud for what he achieved at the time. Although that doesnt mean he would be a good president. I dont think he would do well assuming he were alive today.
