I'm considering on buying an external harddrive for my Acer TravelMate C300 (either a 20GB or 40GB--I haven't yet decided). Anyway, I'm needing some advice on what harddrive I should get. Y'know, a decent brand for a decent price. Any recommendations?

Beats me. I use my camera to carry data around if I can't be bothered to burn a disk. But having said that, I'd buy the cheapest, and back up my important stuff. I'm not too fussed about having the latest and best. As long as it does the job is all I generally worry about.

Harddrives aren't a bad area to over buy in. If you're looking into HD based mp3, or media players, it might be worth it to look at them a little closer.
