Finally search engines are coming out where the first sites are not commercial.

http://www.mooter.com/moot

Type in a subject, it searches the entire net. Organizing everything it finds into categories. You click on the catagory that is closest to what you are looking for. This way you can avoid stinking commericialism and get to the info that you are really looking for.

The search engine was made by some Australian dudes. I read about in the February issue of Discover. Tried it out and I like the results much better than google.
No more googling. Now its mootering time.

I gotta admit, that cluster thing is pretty cool. But-I did a search of 'walrus' (it's a nickname and the first thing that came to my head. Why didn't I name my country something like "Walrustopia/Walrustan etc? Shut-up, that's why.) and the first three on the clusters where all commericial:

Find Walrus Items on eBay Sponsored Link
Walrus items and more, now for sale on eBay. Find millions of products at low prices - all on eBay, the World's Online Marketplace.
http://www.ebay.com
Walruses - $9.19 Sponsored Link
Make Overstock.com your one-stop-shop for all your media needs. Find the latest book, movie, music and gaming titles at deep discounts. Flat-rate shipping. Overstock - your online outlet.

Walrus at Shopping.com Sponsored Link
Find, compare and buy musical instruments and other electronics products. Read product reviews and compare prices with tax and shipping from thousands of online stores.

Still a whore to the commercials. But, then-that's why it's free.

The clusters are pretty cool though.

just tried it out. Did a search on 'professional wrestling' and the sites that came up were by and large the same for both. [edit: both google and mooter, that is]

I do like idea of the clusters, don't know how if it will make the search more efficient though. The site you are after, might be put into a category you would not put it into etc.

:DI could mooter... Though "mooter it" doesn't have quite the same ring.

As an expert data miner from Google, my verdict on this is: it's crap. It takes too long from pressing return to getting your results because of the extra step in involved. For that reason, I'd never use it over Google - because with Google I can find what I want in about 0.2s. Literally.

Google I have to search at least 5 pages to find what I'm looking for. That takes longer than .2 seconds

As a non-expert who had to use a lot of Google to do research, I think the clusters would have made things a LOT easier for me, thus making my over all search faster.

Really, I don't know that it is better. I'd have to do a lot of specific searches on it and I can't just sit here and come up with them.

I probably won't use it because I can't figure out how to get it in that little engine window in the top right of Firefox. Told you I was a non-expert.

Those clusters remind me of a filemanager called "The brain" which archived files on your harddrive in clusters like that too.. too bad it died a couple of years ago.

THis engine seems promising.. if google is smart they'll buy it.

Well u can't use it well then can u. I seem to find everything i need usually in the first 5 choices. Don't use dodgy search engins, use google or alta vista. They are much better as instead of searching everythin and taking a long time, the have a spesific data base from wehich to take info.

Wow, that sucked. Porsche never ends up with it's own cluster, rather sharing a big list and then only containing two sites.

That's no good.

Sorry, I won't be using this search engine. I typed in "1996 lyrics" and rather than getting lyrics for the song 1996 I got all kinds of sites I wasn't interested in. Google gave me results I wanted on the first try.

Unfortunately I am no longer able to use Google because they are not only commerically skewered, they do the same thing with political documentation. Due to the nature of my work, I need an unbias search engine so anything is preferable to what google has become.

Mooter lacks many things Google has. Things like, an image search. It is also really confusing as to where to click next. Instead of seperating out the categories (shopping, research, buisiness, etc.) it does a search on ALL of them and puts them in a web. Too confusing for me. Google will be my search engine.

I like it. The organization into clusters is very useful and can move your search towards a path you not thought about before.

I made a few searches that I usually conduct at work and the results were slightly different to those of google. For information finding purposes this is a good thing.

I will certainly add it to my tool set. Thanks.
