Do you know/have you met anyone famous?

I thought it would be pretty cool to know who has met who in the celebrity world. It's ok if your friend's mothers former roomate knew someone famous; we're still interested.

For me, anyway:

1) I met Pat Bagely, a cartoonist (really funny). He's like best friends with my uncle, and I got like three free signed books.

2) I have a friend that, while up in BYU Idaho, knew a guy (i can't remember if it was his best friend or a guy he knew) who roomed with Jon Heder. For those of you who don't read the back of DVD cases or read the credits, he is more famous for his awesome fro, sweet moonboots and skills: the only NAPOLEON DYNAMITE .

3)A former teacher was elected teacher of the year once, and she had pictures of her with Tom Hanks, that one beefy african american guy, and stories of meeting Dana Carvey and Dave Barry.

Can anyone top those?

Top those?... depends on what you mean by top.

David Carridine married a 2nd cousin of mine and I used to see him occasionally during our annual family reunions (picnics)

My mother was a nurse at Stanford medical center, when Ty Cobb was a patient there, in his later years. He was such a SOB no other nurses would put up with him, but my mom simply treated him like some of the ornery horses she used to raise. He signed a baseball for her and I still have it.

Oh yeah... i forgot.

My business teacher introduced me to this guy who owns, like, tons of art galleries in the SW. He (the art guy) offered me a job at his studio, but i lost contact with him. Any way, he's sold art to a bunch of famous people that i and pretty sure everyone else has never heard of, like old actors, singers, etc. He did, however, sell a big sculpture to Val Kilmer and that was the only one i've heard of. Does that count?

Damn, now I really want to know who it is.....I guess it's time for a 'frustrated' and 'deal with it' dance...and I hate dancing....

I've met Branford Marsalis a few times (the first time he said he remembered me. No, Branford, we didn't meet-you walked by me on your way into the club and I kinda stand out...but thanks for makin' me look cool in the room.)

I met Tony Bennett, he shakes hands like a gangster.

Terrance Blanchard told me a story about being a Jazz Messenger with Art Blakey.

Cornilius Bumpus and Bobby McFerrin (a year before Don't Worry Be Happy came out) hung out with me for a while at a festival because I was the only horn player.

Garrison Keller asked me to get out of the way of a big ass line.

I grew up on the same track as Jeff Gordon. One of us was much better. Guess which one. (It's certainly not the same guy who can't find anything better to do right now)

I'm blanking on anything else right now. Most of it's about the same level and same conditions (except Jeff, who was a seperate condition). I was a buyer at a record store so I met a lot of the musicians through that or from my own playing at the time. I have filmed people I think will be famous soon enough. Doesn't count yet...

I'm 2 degrees of separation from Darth Vader...

One of my mates went to school and is mates with Hayden Christensen.

I also know the Britney Spears lookalike from Seed of Chucky.

My uncle was an international Rugby League star in the late 50's early 60's.

I once met John Paul Young...

My first gf's mother was confirmed by John Paul II when he was only a Bishop.

I also once met Katy Manning (from Doctor Who).

Is that enough?

Well, nothin' impressive.

I have met Kathryn Tucker Windham, the author of 13 Alabama Ghosts and Jeffery.

My former neighbor whose dog I used to pet-sit was a former Miss Alabama. One time she offered to let me borrow her crown and scepter for a school project! I was in awe.

I've also met Tammy Pescatelli (sp?), the woman who should've won Last Comic Standing, season 2, I believe.

I've met several other authors/storytellers, whose names I couldn't remember for the life of me.

EDIT: Okay, since I have met Tammy Pescatelli (sp?), and she has met Jay Mohr, and he has starred with Kevin Bacon in Picture Perfect (I Googled it), that makes me, what, 3 degrees to Kevin Bacon? AWESOME!

Well, of course. But really, our interaction was brief. My roommate at the time got to actually hang out with him-almost ended up driving him to the airport because Garrison refused to ride in a limo (aparently something he had tried to make clear earlier and the store ignored)-so he's more deserving of your worship (though I don't get along with that cat anymore, he's still closer than I was)

g.gordon liddy. I spent about an hour and a half interviewing him at the University of Oklahoma in 1986 (87?) He had just debated (crucified) Hatem Hussani of the PLO - so naturally Mr Hussani refused to take the same limo back to the OKC airport.

In 2001 I hooked up with him again in Fairfax (at WJFK) and he rememberd our chat.

That same December (2001) I shared a box seat at Kennedy Center with Placido Domingo for the Barber of Seville. (My sister was a manager at the Natl. Opera costume shop...) Have you ever shared $1000 Dom with an Opera Star? Nicest guy in the world - unlike Pavoratti.... (yeccchh....)

My mom was one of Bill Clinton's campaign managers when he was running for governor. So technically I've met him, even though I have no recollection of it. Chelsea and my sister used to play together all the time. And apparently Hillary is a very funny, personable, and smart woman.

I met Ted Danson and Mary Steenburgen at the Little Rock airport.

I met Bob Dole when he came to my university (totally disagree with him on everything, but that is one funny man who isn't afraid to make fun of himself).

My cousin is in the band Black Oak Arkansas...they had some hit, but I don't remember what it's called. I've never met him, but still...

And my brother is friends with the guys from REM.

No. I did the "as-built" measurements - which means taking a tape to every wall, nook & cranny - and never found anything remotely interesting except some political books (believe me, I looked - even in the massive junk pile).

They DID however cut out some structural members under the floor in the bathroom in order to make room for the jacuzzi... then they wondered why the floor started collapsing...

All in all, had I met them I think I still would like Placido better.

I've met several famous people, mostly race car drivers or Team Owners, plus some DJs & musicians some people here have heard of. And one very famous actor.
Stirling Moss, one of the best ever Grand Prix drivers. My dad met him he was loaned as a mechanic to Stirlings team in GT Class racing, after Stirling had retired from Grand Prix . My dad, being his irrepressible self, invited Stirling over for dinner. This was almost a decade before I was born BTW.

So every so often, when Stirling Moss paid a visit to this part of Canada, he'd drop by for dinner. You cannot imagine how cool that is when you're between 10 to 18 years old and obsessed with race car driving. I myself haven't seen him in nearly 9 years, but I can remeber each time he came for dinner and a gabbathon.

I've met AJ Foyt twice. He's a mean old bastard. I'd would've popped in hime one the nose if I didn't think he'd tear me to tiny pieces. When ever I saw him, was busy chewing someone to pieces or being the most obnoxious good ol boy ever. What a tough, mean old bumbaclaat. I met him after someone with twisted sense of hour introduced us to eachother during a BBQ party in Lake Of The Woods (Mr. Foyt owns the cottage next to my friends)

I also met Kevbin Spacey. He was doing some movie in the area by my school, OCAD, in Toronto. There were, as usual, film crew trailers up and down the street in front of the school. You'd never know who you might run into, or catch a glimpse of. One spring day, Kevein Spacey walked by the school, did a double take, then turned to my friends and I, sitting on the front steps and said "I guess this would be good place to ask about where to find some decent art galleries?" (we were sitting in front of an ART college)

So he quizzed us for a bit, and invited us along to check out the nearest one, bau Xi. We talked abour art, and not much else. He politely steered the conversation away from anything too personal or poltical, although the discussion did get pretty heated at times. My friend Glen kept rattling sabres with Mr Spacy: they were polar opposites in terms of what "Good Art" is. It was a very "Curb Your Enthusiasm" moment, but all good natured. After about 45 minutes Spacey wanted to go off on his own and we all had classes to go to. He struck me as a really cool guy and knew how to put us at ease regarding the entire" worthless peon meets famous person" thing. Hes quite intelligent and he was very mischeivious that afternoon, not sure he's usually like that. It was pleasant excpereince.

I slept with a famous TV actress, but it doesn't matter who, cuz no one in their right mind would beleive me. Even if someone did believe it, I'd feel dirty and mean giving her name out. Now everyone thinks I'm a boob just for saying this. Ho hum.....(sticks finger up nose, does "Village Idiot Dance")

I live in Santa Barbara County, which is a fairly celebrity-rich environment. Here goes:

I've seen Michael Jackson in the local Mickey D's twice, spoke to him the second time.

I sang on stage with Bobby McFerrin (he asked for singers from the audience, and I was one of about thirty people who went up).

I shook hands with Ronald Reagan, which even though I'm a liberal democrat, was like being in the presence of a demigod.

I went to a party at John Cleese's house, (he lives in south SB county) and spoke to him briefly.

I was at a local pizza place when Lance Armstrong came in and ordered a veggie pizza (he trains in my area at certain times of the year). My friend actually made the pizza for him, as he works at that pizza place.

I know the singer from Sugarcult.

My mom grew up with Arlo Guthrie, and my Grandpa was close friends with Woody Guthrie.

There might be more, but those are the ones I can think of right now.

EDIT: My grandpa was also close friends with Pete Sieger.

Oh yeah, other famous(ish) peoples I have met:
I've met Timothy Eaton junior. I was quite young. He was drunk at someones cottage on Grand Beach on Lake Winipeg. All I remember is it was raining outside so us kids were indoors, and we bugged the hell ouit this old drunk guy who was trying to watch some boring thing on TV.
I've hung out with Chris Tanna, the drummer from I Mother Earth. His then fiance Robin (now his wife) was in a couple of my classes. I met Chris when he dropped by the Foundry Studio fairly late one night. Robin was working on a bronze sculpture, and I was the Shop Assistant. So talked to him a fews times that context, then once more at an "end of the year" party just sittin back, shootin the shit. Real steady, solid hind of guy.

DJs I've met: Plastikman(Richie Hawtin) Jon The Dentist, Ed Rush & Optical, Johny L, Luke Slater, Laurent Garnier, Juan Atkins, Josh Wink, Paul Oakenfold (nice guy, pitty about his music), Photek,Kid Koala, DJ Hype, Dom & Roland, Omar Santana and Rob Gee. Out of all those Kid Koala and Joshu Wink were nicest & most genuine. I'm such an electronic music junky. I like it that way. :p

Oooh, yeah-I met Alexander Payne in my senior seminar in screenwritting last year. The cool part was I was butting heads with the teacher because she was trying to teach a style that seemed overly restrictive and not likely to actually produce a good story. I was a little concerned, because I'm not so arogant to assume that I automatically knew more than her-so I was troubled. But Payne came in and refuted everything she said and re-enforced everything I had been saying. And then he won an Academy Award. Pffffffbbbbllllllttttt.

She's still done more than I have in that field, but whatever. It made me feel better about what I was doing.

Scottie Pippen, Michael Jordan, Bill Cartwright, B.J. Armstrong and Horace Grant. Back in '92. Outstanding.

My ex-singer's father was the singer for 60's brit band The Medievals. His older brother was an A&R guy for Epitaph Records and his younger brother is a photographer for Rolling Stone and Spin and was one of the drummers for the Warlocks.

I've met and played shows with: Dick Dale, Jr. Brown, Creedence Clearwater Revisited, Toadies, Dread Zeppelin, the Reverend Horton Heat, Robert Gordon, Lee Rocker, Ronnie Dawson, the Meteors, the Outfield, Violent Femmes, Bottle Rockets, Hank Williams III and a host of other bands/artists.

I've met, but not played gigs with: Pantera, Type-O Negative (weird story), Ministry, Marilyn Manson, Butthole Surfers, Trent Reznor, Slayer (another weird story), Big Bad Voodoo Daddy, Royal Crown Review and a few others.

I've also partied with Vince Vaughn (weird dude).

In some musical circles, I could be considered semi-famous, from playing with my old band and from my older solo music.

Hmmm, I've met Incubus, Dave Grohl (legend and a thoroughly nice guy), a few other bands (Span, Bluetones, Lifehouse...the joys of free tickets and working for a radio station...albeit a small student one! :D), the whole Bradford City first team (I won a competition to help award the Player of the Season award...ok, you can all stop laughing but it was a big thing for me!!! :p )

I saw her in concert this past Saturday night. I was about 30 seats away from the stage though and the big screen is a little fuzzy. I still have her late 70s image in my mind.

when I was a kid, my father used to take me to Yankee stadium before the game started- I met: Oscar Gamble, Chris Chamblis, Bucky Dent, Graig Nettles, Lou Pinella and Roy White.
At big family events, I have met Derek Jeter twice. Both at funerals.
A friend who is a promoter got me in to meet Judy Tenuda (comedien-I spit my gum on her as she held her hand out. It was part of her act.) and the whole band-Cheap Trick at George Washington University at a concert in the late 80s. We met in their dressing room, helping ourselves to their beer and buffet. I also met Desmond Childs through the same friend.
A relative shared a house with then press secretary Marlin Fitzwater-I met Mr.Fitzwater in his office in the White House and then saw President Regan from about 20 feet away as he gave a speech with Hungary's prime minister. Shortly after, I saw Vice President George Bush from a couple yards away.

Sporting people mostly.

Former NZ cricketers Martin Crowe and Gavin Larson.
Current NZ cricketers Stephen Fleming and James Franklin
Former Pakistani cricketer and probably the best ever left arm fast bowler, Wasim Akram swore at me once.
I've also 'gotten to know' various boundry riders via heckling them from the crowd :D Of those, Michael Kasprowicz was by far the coolest.

Rugby players Christian Cullen and probably others.

Last year I briefly interviewed current MP, sports/education minsiter Trevor Mallard. I've also dinnered with United Future leader and current MP Peter Dunne. I don't remember much of it, but there is a clipping that appeared in the newspaper several years ago of me with former NZ prime minister David Lange, the guy who got tough on sticking up for NZ's anti-nuclear policy.

I also dinnered last year with a guy who used to have a rather high ranking job at the UN, but I've conveniently forgotten his name.

I've met various members of some NZ bands, but you've probably never heard of any of them.

Wow. I saw a good show Memorial Day weekend about men who had been awared the Medal of Honor. It was well done-portarying real heros that all pretty much said all the guys in their squad deserved it too and they didnt do anything that another soldier wouldnt have done. All very humble guys.

That seems to be generally true of MOH winners. The two I know ( one of whom has since died ) were very modest as well. One of the more interesting things about some of these men is the impact on their lives of having been awarded the MOH. Since most of them don't think they did anything special, and since the impact on their lives is so large, some of them have great difficulty dealing with it.

That was a sad note at the end of what I had watched-one of the men profiled had died before the special was broadcast.
One had single handedly taken out THREE seperate German machine gun nests on a mountain in Italy. They were shredding his men. He crawled up and took them out with a rifle and grenades. What balls.

They did a feature film about him. Can't remember the guys name, but it was pretty good, well it was when i was a kid. I believe he was the most decorated American soldier in WW2 IIRC.

There's a name from my teenage years! I have several of his records. I must remember to play them to my kids, it might even get them interested in classical music.

As for famous people I've met, well ... A bunch of heavyweight politicians, but through my work and I'm sure they wouldn't remember the encounter, so that don't count.

A bunch of mildly heavyweight artists and scientists, but through my wife's work and I'm sure they wouldn't remember the encounter, so that don't count.

A bunch of obscure cult musicians, but through my brother's work and I'm sure they wouldn't remember the encounter, so that don't count.

Encounters I think count:

My brother - he used to be a famous music journalist (still is in certain quarters).

I once shared a rolled eye and wry smile moment with Tom Baker.

And I once stubbed my cigarette out on Felicity Kendall.

Oh, and the ex-singer from The June Brides is a good mate of mine.

Oh, I forgot.. when I worked at a bar, one customer of mine was supposedly a famous, but not widely-recognized musician. He played backup organ for some of the most famous rock musicians in the world in the '60s and 70's.. he never told anyone who he was, but he went by "James," and said he was from Newcastle (England). And I know he wasn't bullshitting me, because we had a piano in the bar, and that guy could play like you wouldn't believe.

The whole Bradford City first team (I won a competition to help award the Player of the Season award...ok, you can all stop laughing but it was a big thing for me!!! :p )
My brother was once mistaken for a Bradford player. Not that he looks anything like any of them, but he was wandering around the Colchester Utd club shop a few hours before a Colchester-Bradford match, and some guy came up to him and asked if he was one of the Bradford players...
Anyway, famous people I know/have met:
Steven Gerrard (Champions League winning captain of Liverpool) is my uncle's cousin :D Met him several times...though I'm an Arsenal fan myself...
Met Terry Pratchett - truly nice bloke.
Also met a couple of bands, though I don't think the word 'famous' really applies to either of them - the Duke Spirit (have a signed limited edition 7" of theirs) and 65daysofstatic (have 4 signed CDs, a signed gig ticket, a broken drumstick of their drummer's, and a set list).

Yep , it was Audie.

Audie Murphy was indeed a legend in his own time - and a hero for all times. For his valor in combat and action above and beyond the call of duty, he received every medal the Army awards. He earned the Silver Star twice in 3 days, three Purple Hearts, the Distinguished Service Cross, and the Medal of Honor.
