I have seen an increasing number of new nations in this forum recently-probably due to summer vacation. If you are new to the forums, there are some things you should know. I will only list three, but I'm sure there are other things other people will want to add.

(1) This isn't a democracy, this is a privately owned forum. The moderators of this forum have every right to ban you for no reason whatsoever. Most likely, they will not, but they do have that right.
(2) There are rules. These rules are posted in plain sight, and if you choose not to read them, you are only hurting yourself.
(3) You can consider anyone with more posts than you your elder in this forum, and you are expected to treat your forum elders with respect.

While I tend to agree with you on most things you say, I do disagree on point 3. Respect is earned, and should never be freely given. If you don't respect your elder poster, at least consider their advice, though.

I definitely disagree with the third one. I'd hate for someone to respect me because I've been here for longer... I don't respect someone who has been here a bit longer than I have. The other two be fair enough.

I agree with everything but this, even though I have a relatively high post count and an ass old founding date. All it really means is that we've managed to not find anything else to do and have posted without getting caught breaking the rules for a long time. We can still be anything anyone else can be, obnoxious, jerks, talking-out-of-our-asses, etc. Posts should be judged on content, not on the posters stats.

But I'm with ya for the most part. At the very least, if a poster has been around a while they might know things like where threads go or what kind of thread is likely to get locked.

Well, the best way to hide something is to put it in plain sight ;)

(3) You can consider anyone with more posts than you your elder in this forum, and you are expected to treat your forum elders with respect.

Surely it would make sense that nations older then yours are your elder, no?

Anyway, respect should be earned rather then automatically demanded because of some arbitary reason like post count or age.

lol

Also, I should add that some people with a large number of posts may have them because they're rather spamtastic, especially those who haven't been around for a while. I've been around for over a year now (not too long compared to a number of people, I know), but I've only recently really started posting in the forums. So post count may not be a good determinate for one's "elder" status.

now of course i am one of the newbies of which you speak, but i'd like to make a suggestion on number three.

show respect to everyone, and more if they happen to know what they're talking about. basically, if what someone says is good then show extra respect based on content. if it is wrong, respectfully correct or post your own point of view. anyone who reacts negatively to that probably doesnt really deserve the respect, but at least you tried.

that work?

There are a whole lot of people with fewer posts than me who don't treat me with respect, and I see no reason why I should respect anyone with more posts than me. Or why I should respect anyone at all for that matter. My respect for posters like Tink goes down every time they post in the spam forum.

Normally you also have to have been here a while. I've been here for about 2-3 months, and have more posts than The Blaatschapen who's been here 3 years. But our Dutch friend probably knows the rules better than I do and hasn't flamed, trolled, flamebaited, etc. (all of which I've nearly done and escaped the Heavy Hammer of Mod by the skin of my teeth).

Raw numbers don't grant the right to neither respect, nor disrespect. I say every user, regardless of join date and post count, deserves respect, until they themselves prove otherwise. And then it's up to the mods to deal with them.

similarly, older posters, don't disrespect or put down noobs just because they are new and you don't know their opinions yet. i've been doing a bit of that recently and i realy shouldn't :(

(4) all noobs must hail TInk or suffer torture in her n00b dungeon ;)

(5) with respect to the new "fad" of political parties, if there's already a party that represents most of your views, please don't go start another one based only on small differences. join the party, suggest your changes, just accept the differences in opinon, or if its really too much go start your own party... just don't do that as your first option

(6) actually thats an important one. respect others opinons, always. you may disagree with whats said but the other poster has a right to say it, and don't forget they are real people on the other end of the keyboard, so play nice.
that is unless its obvious trolling... in which case have fun :D

Indeed, it seems rather counterintuitive. I mean, what ever happened to the statement of "Quality not Quantity." Using the current formula, someone could make 1,999 fluffles and then one flame and now they're a veteran message board poster? How interesting. I think the passage should much like the somethingawful.com system. Hi everyone. I'm an immature n00b. I just joined today, so that means that everyone here is my elder.

Note the use of punctuation. Do you see how I have masterfully integrated commas and periods into the paragraph to make the long sentence a set of smaller ones?

Now, then there is spelling... That awful AOL speak is heavily frowned upon here. We don't kindly take to those chat abbreviations. Full words are preferred here. Also, proper spelling is extremely encouraged here.

Typos are accepted as a part of life.

When you're on the conservitive side of this forum, you have to get respect any way you can, so I'm all for number three :)

(3) You can consider anyone with more posts than you your elder in this forum, and you are expected to treat your forum elders with respect.

I'll refrain from commenting on TInK because I'd probably get deleted.

Let's just say there's a definite reason I said she should dye her hair blonde (in that other thread).

now of course i am one of the newbies of which you speak, but i'd like to make a suggestion on number three.

show respect to everyone, and more if they happen to know what they're talking about. basically, if what someone says is good then show extra respect based on content. if it is wrong, respectfully correct or post your own point of view. anyone who reacts negatively to that probably doesnt really deserve the respect, but at least you tried.

that work?

I agree! There isn't enough respect going around now, not like back in the old days when people showed respect to everyone that deserved it.

We should be respectful to everyone without needing a reason like number of posts or join date - none of these are relevant as far as i'm concerned.

Just because someone has less posts than you makes their opinion mean less or what they know about a subject have worse reliability than yours?

Respect me, or I will pass among you with a baseball bat! :D

I believe you mean "pass a kidney stone". ;) Just kiddin', Eutrusca.

Also, shouldn't there be a "read at least the first 5 pages of a debate thread before posting" rule?

All right there, grim, keep your socks on. You get respect because you're funny. That and you made the party I almost agreed with most. And you're a secret liberal. You just don't like to admit it. I'll get you out the closet.

What, and let it degrade into a flamewar about friendly fire or strawberries vs cherries or something! Aw hell nah, dawg. Everyone jump in there and shoot off your one liner on the first page because that's what everyone responds to ;)

It depends on how many replies per page you have the forum set to...

Something tells me that you were "line leader" and "homework monitor" back in grade school.

Two things: I'm older than you; get over yourself, it's not all that important.

Thank you.

I was waiting for someone to say that... I was too busy nitpicking douchey spelling. :D

True..how about the first 25 to 50 posts, then?
