"Call on me tomorrow, and you shall find me a grave man."

May I die with such wit at the ready. His tounge was his sword, and he wielded it with a flourish :)

Damnit... I've never read or seen it, though I do have an appreciation of Othello, Hamlet, and The Merchant of Venice. Whichever character is most similar to Iago, definitely. Shakespeare wrote his villains well.

Mercutio, without a doubt

Mercutio easy, although after seeing how he was portrayed in the film, (think it was Baz Lurnahm) Tybalt came a close second!

And I agree, Iago is the best villain I know of.

I thoguht about putting Mercutio...but that's so cliched.

So Nurse it must be instead. She is the true heroine.

"R&J" is an adaptation of Romeo and Juliet, I believe making it a homosexual relationship. I know thats not the play you where refering to, but it made me chuckle...

I saw a 'in the park' production of it that used a similar setting to the Luhrman film (years before it) that had Mercutio fighting Tibelt with a banana, so when Tibelt gets his first cut it's on the banana. It really brought out the difference in how Mercutio viewed the conflict vs. how the others did. And established that Mercutio was a total bad ass who could have kicked Tibelts ass.

Friar Lawerence (sp?) all the way.

If you liked the setting but not the actual plot, read the Merchant of Venice. It's much much better.

No, you're just identifying with the character that the playwright wanted you to. Don't feel bad about that, just marvel at how well that character worked.

Why the heck isn't Friar Lawrence on the poll? He's the most rational character in the play, and the most honorable. That and he gets it. The best char hands down, though the others are more fun.

I'll be Mercutio, you be Tibalt, and I'll stab you with my banana :p

Bah - studied this play at GCSE so much that I really hate it.

In the Film by Baz Luhrman, definately Juliet - she's hot ^^

Romeo and Juliet is one of Shakespeares worst plays, sorry people but I think it's awful.

If you liked the setting but not the actual plot, read the Merchant of Venice. It's much much better.
That I agree with. Much better play and characters. Ranks up there with Othello and Hamlet, these were Shakespeares masterpieces (though King Lears good to! :) )

I wasn't a huge fan of it, but Merc was a favorite...

I think romeo and juliet was one of the weaker plays, but I really like hamlet, The Scotish Tragedy, and Merchant. Haven't read othello yet, but I hope to soon

Benvolio (sp? its late ;) ) Only because I was him in a play

Othello rules, mostly because it has the best villian. People have made the mistake of taking Iago's justifications at face value-but notice how they shift when you read it.

You can say Macbeth outside of a theater. And I'm possitve you can type it anytime you want.

Forget Romeo and Juliet, give me Titus Andronicus any day. I'd much rather a tragedy that revolves around the circle of pride and vengence than the story of two oversensitive teens...

I haven't read Othello for ages, never had the good fortune to see it, but Iago was easily the best character... he was just so... villainous, even good old Shylock ("my Ducats and my daughter!") can't compare to the knavery of Iago.

I don't actually like the story very much, Romeo and Juliet are such sooks, i mean who would kill themselves just because some person they had a crush on died! It annoys me.

But if it was anyone it would have to be the Nurse or Mercutio ( Original, i know)

I played Benvolio in 8th grade ^_^ "I do but keep the peace!"

Merctio, because he's so mercurious.

I should have been Mercutio. Bad casting, that's all that was. The chick who they cast had no vision. I could have brought the Queen Mab speach alive, delivered it how it was ment to be delivered.

haha...I was actually writing that in my theater's* office, hence why I didn't type it. With all the problems we've had this year, I don't want to risk doing any more harm.

And I'll definatly be checking out Othello in my off time.

*by theater, I mean the nice church that we have converted into a theater for the summer to do a community theater show...I was there hanging some lights.

Tybalt. And I love the name. Reminds me of cobalt.

If you lot don't agree, I'll bite my thumb at y'all! Romeo is such a horny, pathetic, pimply teenager, it's a shame his name is now synonymous with "sexy, attractive uber-lover."

I said Tybalt, for one because I played him...

...and also, while the "new" Romeo and Juliet (the one with Leonardo DiCaprio and Claire Danes) sucked balls...I thought John Leguizamo was outstanding as Tybalt.

Mercutio

Mainly because I played him in a small production at school. Plus stabbing Tybalt with a plastic ruler during rehersals was fun :D

Romeo and Juliet is evil, it is a horrible play and should be banned.

Give me Measure for Measure, Othello, Macbeth, Merchant of Venice, Hamlet and/or King Lear any day.

Have you read Coriolanus? It's the sime kind of thing as Titus Andronicus, but less blood-thirsty lol. I think it's the best of the Roman plays

i cant make up my mind which is my fav. i like Friar Lawence (coz he helps the lovers), Mercutio (coz he's got a gr8 wit, the Baz Lurman version has him as a drag queen which is cool and mainly coz of his Queen Mab (or is Mag) speach) or Juliet (coz she's so innocent and sweet).

I like Romeo and Juliet but my fav shakespeare play has gotta be The Tempest or A Midsummer Nights Dream.

Damn I'm so indecisive (sp?)!!!!
