I'd say against - it could be economically damaging for both Scotland and the rest of the UK.

For it, give England their independence as well. Have an economic union however yes, but that's it.

I'm against it for now. It would be folly to make the mistake of letting pride blind us to the fact that were not ready for independance. Sure it'd be great for about 5 years but with our skills shortage, declinging/ageing population, relatively weak industry we'd pretty soon slump into decline. All the best workers would head south to England for better paid jobs, we would become completely dependant on tourism for cash - which would effectlively destroy anything in the central belt that isn't Edinburgh or Glasgow. I just think it'd be a disaster, and would you want Alex Salmond at the helm? Or god forbid Nicola Sturgeon (*shudders*).

i'm strongly against it. devolution is a tool used by the political elite to divide and conquer the people, it doesn't increase democratisation in any real sense.
and what is worse it wastes money that belongs to the whole country, money that the majority of the people see no benefit from, which could be otherwise spent on health or education.
this is however, the only thing to date i agree with margaret thatcher on.

It's quite appalling how much cash is being thrown on giving us a cool new building and over-representing us by having not only MPs but also a bunch of moaing whiney shouting idiots (MSPs) in HollyRood. I efffectively have two politicians representing me where as English people only have the one, yet everybodies taxes pay for this - if I were English I'd be outraged at the state of develution.

It would be a disgrace to break up the United Kingdom.
What the irish are doing is bad enough. God save the Queen.

I'm afriad English people can't be angry about the state of devolution. If anyone whispers dissent then they are screamed at by a thousand angry Scottish, Welsh, Irish and many other English people who all believe that any bad words held against devolution by an Englishman is merely because he's a crazed right wing nazi hell bent of restoring imperial power back to the single crown of england.... and then on to the rest of the world.
Serious debate about devolution and how the problems it is producing can be dealt within can only, therefore, be conducted within the devolving areas themselves.
I'm strongly for it. It would stop the English taxpayer supporting the Scots financially and would save us money. It would also mean that a majority vote in favour in England for the Tories may actually result in a Tory Government unlike this past election. (although in England the actual percentages were very close)

Good point. Scottish independence or keeping the fucking Tories out? No contest.

I'm definitely for it. England dominates the union at the moment. Under the English, Scotland has lost most of it's major industries. I would much rather see a vibrant Scotland being an integral part of the European Fedaration than a second class country in the UK.

I'm against it, mainly for two reasons:
1. It would be good in the short term but in the long term scottish industry would suffer, taxes would go up in Scotland and it would hurt their tourism industry after a while too.
2. I consider myself British, not english, so for all the raving muppets who think I am doing this to put England above all others...nope sorry.

Strongly against
- Much of the UK's sucessful hevey industry is in Scotland (Abberdeen, the shipbuilding of the Clyde)
- It would economically damage both Scotland and the UK. Scotland as its own entity was in recession only two years ago and was only pulled out by some sucessful New Labour policies
- It has a too small population to warrant independence. There are less people in Scotland than there are in Greater London
Against. Both parties (UK and Scotland) lose out economically.
