ive never seen a "cartoon" character that i thought was hot. (comic books, graphic novels, anime and manga included) most are drawn just too young for me to think they are hot. the japanese ones especially.
i do find some characters in the above attractive. just like other characters in books or movies can be attractive.

The question is, "Can art stimulate a response from the viewer?" the answer is; of course it can.
Can a cartoon be attractive/sexy/erotic? Of course, all it has to do is resonate with the viewer. All it has to do is connect on some primal, sexual level with them. It can come from ANYTHING. Smells, sights, sounds, a memory seemingly unrelated.
Whatever the brain does to store the memory of that "something so sexy" can be recalled by a piece of art; in this case cartoons.
A great quote from an old show seems to be fitting. "I used to put my nan's bra around a chair and practice until I could unbutton it one-handed. To this day, every time I see a mohogany chair I get horny."

Considering that attraction is based, among other things, on visual cues then yes. It would seem probable and even normal to find a cartoon attractive. Personally, I think some are drawn in an attractive manner but I don't think about it much or buy publications because of a hot cartoon character.
Personally, I don't support animated porn and the thought of it being considered acceptable in our society almost succeeds in sickening me.

I'd rather watch H than the Shakira video.
One involves turning on MTV, the other involves turning on VLC Media player. I feel a lot better about turning on VLC Media Player than I do turning on the television and wading through knee-deep crap to see 3:20 of Shakira. It's like feeding my brain into a machine when I do that. I prefer to rage against the machine, know what I mean?
That said, I do indeed believe that cartoons can be attractive. With Hentai in mind specifically, it takes all of the elements of pornography (which is known to turn people on) and exaggerates them in a way that real people could not achieve (Tentacle rape in real life, I think not ^__________^;; lol). It still is pornography, however. It's art (that's an arguable definition) that is intended for one sole purpose, and we all know what that is. Unless you haven't hit puberty, then go watch the Shakira video 10 times and then come back with results.

Manga and anime are Japanese comics and cartoons, respectively. While there are trace elements of the mysognistic -- er "patriarchal" -- society, they are in no way hentai (perverted).
Furthermore, there is nothing perverted about ecchi or ero in and of itself. The pictoral representation of a human in a sexual pose or action, whether as a photograph, a drawing, or neotenic charicature is in no way perverse.
It might be "immoral" by some puritanical standards, but we -- learned people -- all know that morals are purely subjective, and that such judgements are made only by the feeble minded.
Thus, to recount an old cliche addage, "don't knock it till you tried it."

We learned people? Which learned people are moral relativists? Goatman says, "Only the ones that want five in the face!" Moral absolutism all the way! Woohoo!
That being said, Puritanicalism is not the correct absolute.

If you look at furry drawings, you aren't close, you're there. Of course, that may not be your bag, I don't know. I don't think this was intended as a Hentai thread. I think it was intended more as a Jessica Rabbit/Pocahontas thread.

I'm damn sure that there was a period some time in history where pornography was allowed, and X movies were shown in normal theaters.

I'm damn sure that there was a period some time in history where pornography was allowed, and X movies were shown in normal theaters.
And that time was the 1970s... ;)
The Congress of the United States passed the first federal obscenity law as part of the Tariff Act of 1842, barring the importation of all “indecent and obscene prints, paintings, lithographs, engravings, and transparencies.”
The so-called Comstock Law, an 1873 amendment to the 1865 Postal Act, prohibited sending any obscene material through the domestic mails, including materials dealing with abortion or birth control. This act made Comstock a special agent to the post office with personal authority to enforce the law. By the time of his death in 1915, Comstock had spearheaded hundreds of successful prosecutions in the name of moral decency, many of which involved works of considerable literary merit.
Congress passed 20 obscenity laws between 1842 and 1956, most of which were variations of or amendments to the original Comstock Law. Later, Congress passed a series of antipornography and anti-indecency laws dealing with new forms of technology and with the protection of children. The Protection of Children Against Sexual Exploitation Act of 1977 prohibits anyone from employing or inducing a minor to participate in sexual conduct or in the making of pornography. In 1988 Congress passed legislation against “dial-a-porn” companies that made it illegal to make indecent or obscene phone calls over state lines for commercial purposes.

I've been attracted to all kinds of fictional characters in my life as a reader of books, comics and graphic novels; watcher of television and movies; and patron of live theater, opera and dance.
99% of the time, it has very little to do with what the character looks like (which is a concrete "duh" with regard to books). I've watched a little anime in my time, and while a character like Cowboy Bebop's Faye Valentine is certainly eye candy of the highest order, that's all she is. Those who lust after anime/ero/hentai characters merely because they're drawn in schoolgirl outfits or have gravity-ignoring breasts are a fairly solid majority, and I'd no more hold that against them than I would the many fans of, say Pamela Anderson. I'd question their taste, but that's a big heaping bowl of subjective and not worth a debate.
The characters I fall for are usually more of the wallflower types or supporting characters (Naomi Watts as the mousy brunet Jet from the movie version of the Tank Girl comic comes to mind). The drawings I fell hardest for were and are the drawings of Wendy Pini from her ElfQuest world of characters (most notably Moonshade, Tyleet, Aroree, Venka and Goodtree). And those were attractions based not only on the graphic novels, but the prose novelization of the original Quest and its history. These are women (or whatever you call a female elf) of strength, wisdom and charm, and they are each drawn so remarkably well and with such exacting skill that no two among dozens of elfin characters look alike. That kind of soul went into the stories as well as the art, and it was the combined effort that made me feel what I did, and to some degree still do, about those wonderful creations.
But that's just me. If you're into the jiggly types (such as Kintaro Oe's first encounter from the Golden Boy series), then hey, who am I (or anyone else) to judge? It's a matter of taste, my friends, and that is as variable as the weather here in Seattle.
Shade and sweet water,

Ok, it's impossible to say that they can't be hot. So many of them are not, but some many are, and for that matter so many CAN be . Hell, I'll take the easy route...Jessica Rabbit? If you don't think she's amazing, you're blind. How many hundreds of well drawn men and women are there out there, so many in fact that no matter what your taste, someone has drawn something that must fit your desires, you just need to look for it.

2 things:
1: All matter in the universe is made up of really small one-dimentional oscilating strings, with relatively enormous masses of nothing between them.
Considering that, whether something you're attracted to is 'real' or not becomes only a point of view.
2: You're not going to meet 99,99% of the women/men whose photo's you drool over anyway.

Agreed with you on Raven. She reminds me of the Steely Dan song "Negative Girl" from Two Against Nature. Brooding and intense can be sexy, so long as it isn't for its own sake. The vast majority of the so-called goth culture is a load of dingo's kidneys dressed in black. Meh.
As for Jessica Rabbit, FAR too overdone for my taste. Consult my earlier post for why.
