Well, now that the polls are closed, I feel obligated to thank those who voted for me especially considering that they did so on the strength of my platform alone; not on virtue of fancy-looking posters or empty rhetoric. I must also commend the Party of Whatever Works for acheiving the same feat; I saw little in the way of bickering from any of them, and nothing in the way of enormous posters or mindless propaganda. It really says something about your beliefs if you can further them with your ideas alone.
I'm very pleasantly surprised that I managed to poll third in the election despite having formed my 'party' the night before the election. Beating TInk and the UDCP is all I could have really asked for under the circumstances; and I'm elated that--somehow--this managed to become a reality. I would have been happy with just one seat, but it seems I've got three: interesting considering I'm the only person in my 'party.'
I urge Parliament to hold true to it's principles [hint, hint] and maintain the 4% 'quorum' edict as was stated in the very first post. We cannot possibly begin on solid footing by abandoning the principles on which this Parliament was supposedly founded.
I am very much looking forward to debating with some of my political opponents; so long as we're all willing to listen to reason, I see nothing stopping this from being an engaging and fulfilling endeavor for everyone. It's certainly one of the more engaging and exciting NS General 'fads' I've ever seen, and I'm surprised now that I think of it that this idea had not been touched upon earlier. I urge everyone involved [especially those who I will be appointing to 'my' remaining two seats] to form their own decisions and vote accordingly: I will always maintain that political parties promote mediocrity, as they tend to mandate that everyone vote according to 'party principle' at every turn. We are nothing if our ideas become co-opted by someone else.
Remember, we're people first and politicans second. We must all remain confident in our ability to reason and to see both sides of the coin.
Good luck to all!
