Propaganda? You bet.

This is a brilliant piece of propaganda I spotted today.

http://parishioners.org/

This is another example of the Scientologists' propaganda brilliance. I mean, just look at it. It almost seems official that those people listed are super-evil. They're fulfilling L. Ron Hubbard's goal admirably:
“Somebody some day will say ‘this is illegal.’ By then be sure the orgs [Scientology organizations] say what is legal or not.”

If you didn't notice, the people condemned on that site are those who speak out against Scientology. The Scientologists added in just enough about other religions and such to make it seem credible, but the main focus of the site is to attack Scientology's enemies, and I bet many, if not most, people that visit that site do not realize that. The site isn't about anti-religious extremists as it claims.

While Scientology itself is a load of bull, you have to admit after seeing stuff like this site that they have some talent up at the top levels. All those front companies and sympathetic lawyers and such. I almost admire their ability to pull things like this off.

What is "Scientology"?

A religion founded by SF writer L Ron Hubbard, which is popular amongst several celebrities, extremely secretive about what it actually teaches and often accused of brainwashing people to give the high ranking members lots of money.

I started reading that for a few minutes, but then stopped because it's extremely blatently biased. I dont know what "scientology" is and I dont want to get involved in a debate on the rights and wrongs of it, I just want to know what it is from an unbiased source.

EDIT: Thanks The Alma Mater,

In the late 1940s, pulp writer L. Ron Hubbard declared:

"Writing for a penny a word is ridiculous. If a man really wants to make a million dollars, the best way would be to start his own religion"

Reader's Digest reprint, May 1980, p.1

Hubbard later created the Church of Scientology...

In a Nutshell

The Church of Scientology is a vicious and dangerous cult that masquerades as a religion. Its purpose is to make money. It practices a variety of mind-control techniques on people lured into its midst to gain control over their money and their lives. Its aim is to take from them every penny that they have and can ever borrow and to also enslave them to further its wicked ends.

It was started in the 1950s by a science fiction writer named L. Ron Hubbard in fulfilment to his declared aim to start a religion to make money. It is an offshoot to a method of psychotherapy he concocted from various sources which he named "Dianetics". Dianetics is a form of regression therapy. It was then further expanded to appear more like a religion in order to enjoy tax benefits. He called it "Scientology".

Scientology is a confused concoction of crackpot, dangerously applied psychotherapy, oversimplified, idiotic and inapplicable rules and ideas and science-fiction drivel that is presented to its members (at the "advanced" levels) as profound spiritual truth.

I really don't understand Followers of Scientology. Wasn't it originally based on a rubbish sci-fi book that didn't sell too well, so the author converted it to a cult to make cash?

I just checked out neo's link. That is one nasty hateful organization. It's unbelievable that they do this stuff, isnt that website grounds for someone suing scientology's arse off? I knew they were freaky from reading the wikipedia about xenu, but I assumed they were harmless wackos, guess I as wrong.

The followers are weak minded people who get manipulated.

It's not harmless at all - they take tons of money from their "followers" (victims).

I can understand people believing in ancient religions...but if your religion was CREATED - completely brand new and not influenced or derived from older religions, in the 19 freakin' 50's, methinks that said religion is probably NOT a reliable choice.

This is a debate forum, and I'd expect Scientologists to be discouraged from exposing themselves to opposing views. If they read this thread they might see sense, and then the church of scientology would stop getting money from them.
